अतः परं प्रजासर्गं भृग्वादीनां निबोधत
Now, listen further to the creation of beings, beginning with Bhṛgu and others.
देवौ धाताविधातारौ मेरोर्जामातरौ तथा
The two gods Dhātṛ and Vidhātṛ, and likewise the sons-in-law of Meru,
धाताविधात्रोस्ते भार्ये तयोर्जातौ सुतावुभौ
Dhātṛ and Vidhātṛ had wives, and to them two sons were born.
तथा वेदशिरा नाम प्राणस्य द्युतिमान् सुतः
Likewise, a son named Vedaśirā, radiant with life, was born.
कन्याचतुष्टयं चैव सर्वलक्षणसंयुतम्
And four daughters as well, endowed with all auspicious marks.
विरजाः पर्वश्चैव पौर्णमासस्य तौ सुतौ
Virajā and Parva were the two sons of Paurṇamāsa.
कर्दमं च वरीयांसं सहिष्णुं मुनिसत्तमम्
Kardama, Varīyān, and Sahiṣṇu, the foremost of sages,
अनसूया तथैवात्रेर्जज्ञे पुत्रानकल्पषान्
Likewise, Anasūyā gave birth to sons for Atri, without fault.
स्मृतिश्चाङ्गिरसः पुत्रीर्जज्ञे लक्षणसंयुताः
And Smṛti, daughter of Aṅgiras, gave birth to daughters endowed with auspicious marks.
प्रीत्यां पुलस्त्यो भगवान् दत्तात्रिमसृजत् प्रभुः
In Prīti, the blessed Pulastya, the lord, begot Dattātrima.
वेदबाहुं तथा कन्यां सन्नतिं नाम नामतः
He also had a daughter named Sannati, and a son called Vedabāhu.
ते चोर्ध्वरेतसः सर्वे बालखिल्या इति स्मृताः
All of them, possessing upward-flowing energy, are known as the Bālakhilyas.
कन्यां च पुण्डरीकाक्षां सर्वेशोभासमन्विताम्
And the daughter, Pundarīkākṣā, was endowed with the radiance of all.
सुतपाः शुक्र इत्येते सप्त पुत्रा महौजसः
These seven mighty sons are Sutapā and Śukra.
स्वाहा तस्मात् सुतान् लेभे त्रीनुदारान् महौजसः
From him, Svāhā obtained three noble and powerful sons.
निर्मथ्यः पवमानः स्याद् वैद्युतः पावकः स्मृतः
Nirmathya, Pavamāna, and Vaidyuta are remembered as Pāvaka's sons.
तेषां तु संततावन्ये चत्वारिंश्च पञ्च च
Among their descendants, there are forty and five others.
एते चैकोनपञ्चाशद् वह्नयः परिकीर्तितः
Thus, these are said to be the forty-nine fires.
रुद्रात्मकाः स्मृताः सर्वे त्रिपुण्ड्राङ्कितमस्तकाः
All of them are considered to be of Rudra's essence, their foreheads marked with three lines.
अग्निष्वात्ता बर्हिषदो द्विधा तेषां व्यवस्थितिः
The Agniṣvāttas and Barhiṣads are their twofold divisions.
ते उभे ब्रह्मवादिन्यौ योगिन्यौ मुनिसत्तमाः
Both groups are learned in Brahman, accomplished in yoga, and foremost among sages.
गङ्गा हिमवतो जज्ञे सर्वलोकैकपावनी
Gaṅgā, the sole purifier of all worlds, was born from Himavat.
यथावत् कथितं पूर्वं देव्या माहात्म्यमुत्तमम्
The supreme glory of the goddess has already been properly described.
व्याख्याता भवतामद्य मनोः सृष्टिं निबोधत
Today, you have explained it; now listen to the creation of Manu.
धर्मज्ञौ सुमहावीर्यौ शतरूपा व्यजीजनत्
Śatarūpā gave birth to two sons, both knowledgeable in dharma and of great might.
भक्तो नारायणे देवे प्राप्तवान् स्थानमुत्तमम्
A devotee of Lord Nārāyaṇa, he attained the highest abode.
श्लिष्टेराधत्त सुच्छाया पञ्च पुत्रानकल्पषान्
From Śliṣṭā, he begot five sons, all faultless and possessing good character.
आराध्य पुरुषं विष्णुं शालग्रामे जनार्दनम्
Having worshipped Lord Viṣṇu, Janārdana, at Śālagrāma.
नारायणपरान् शुद्धान् स्वधर्मपरिपालकान्
Those devoted to Nārāyaṇa, pure, and upholders of their own duty,
प्रजापतेरात्मजायां वीरणस्य महात्मनः
In the wife of Prajāpati, the great-souled Vīraṇa,
