श्रुतिस्मृतिभ्यामुदितो धर्मो यज्ञादिको मतः
Dharma, beginning with sacrifice, is declared by the Veda and Smṛti.
तस्मान्मुमुक्षुर्धर्मार्थो मद्रूपं वेदमाश्रयेत्
Therefore, one desiring liberation should resort to my form, the Veda, for the sake of dharma.
ऋग्यजुः सामरूपेण सर्गादौ संप्रवर्तते
In the beginning of creation, it proceeds in the form of Ṛg, Yajur, and Sāma.
ब्राह्मणादीन् ससर्जाथ स्वे स्वे कर्मण्ययोजयत्
Then he created the Brāhmaṇas and others, assigning each to their own duties.
तेषामधस्ताद् नरकांस्तामिस्त्रादीनकल्पयत्
Below them, he established hells such as Tāmisra.
यो ऽन्यत्ररमतेसो ऽसौनसंभाष्यो द्विजातिभिः
He who delights elsewhere—he is not to be spoken with by the twice-born.
श्रुतिस्मृतिविरुद्धानि निष्ठा तेषां हि तामसी
Their resolves, opposed to the Veda and Smṛti, are indeed of darkness.
एवंविधानि चान्यानि मोहनार्थानि तानि तु
And other such things, too, exist for the purpose of delusion.
मया सृष्टानि शास्त्राणि मोहायैषां भवान्तरे
The scriptures created by me are for the delusion of these beings in another existence.
तत् प्रयत्नेन कुर्वन्ति मत्प्रियास्ते हि ये नराः
Therefore, those men who are devoted to me strive diligently in this matter.
स्वायंभुवो मनुर्धार्मान् मुनीनां पूर्वमुक्तवाना
Svāyambhuva Manu formerly declared the codes of conduct to the sages.
चक्रुर्धर्मप्रतिष्ठार्थं धर्मशास्त्राणि चैव हि
Indeed, they composed the treatises on dharma for the establishment of righteousness.
ब्रह्मणो वचनात् तानि करिष्यन्ति युगे युगे
By the command of Brahmā, they will uphold these in every age.
नियोगाद् ब्रह्मणो राजंस्तेषु धर्मः प्रतिष्ठितः
By the injunction of Brahmā, O King, righteousness is established among them.
युगे युगे ऽत्र सर्वेषां कर्ता वै धर्मशास्त्रवित्
In every age, the knower of the dharma-śāstra is indeed the agent for all these matters.
ज्योतिः शास्त्रं न्यायविद्या मीमांसा चोपबृंहणम्
The science of light, the science of logic, and Mīmāṃsā are supports.
चतुर्वेदैः सहोक्तानि धर्मो नान्यत्र विद्यते
Along with the four Vedas, these are declared; dharma is not found elsewhere.
स्थापयन्ति ममादेशाद् यावदाभूतसंप्लवम्
By my command, they establish these until the dissolution of creation.
परस्यान्ते कृतात्मानः प्रविशन्ति परं पदम्
At the end of another's time, those who have perfected themselves enter the supreme state.
धर्मेण सहितं ज्ञानं परं ब्रह्म प्रकाशयेत्
Knowledge united with righteousness reveals the supreme Brahman.
उपासते सदा भक्त्या योगमैश्वरमास्थिताः
Always devoted with faith, established in yogic lordship, they worship.
अमानिनो बुद्धिमन्तस्तापसाः शंसितव्रताः
Humble, wise, ascetics of firm vows.
संन्यासिनो गृहस्थाश्च वनस्था ब्रह्मचारिणः
Renunciants, householders, forest-dwellers, and celibates.
नाशयामि तमः कृत्स्नं ज्ञानदीपने मा चिरात्
I swiftly dispel all darkness with the lamp of knowledge.
सदानन्दास्तु संसारे न जायन्ते पुनः पुनः
Ever-blissful in the world, they are not born again and again.
मामेवार्चय सर्वत्र मेनया सह संगतः
Worship me everywhere, together with Menā.
ततो मे सकलं रूपं कालाद्यं शरणं व्रज
Therefore, take refuge in my entire form, which is the origin of time and all things.
तन्निष्ठस्तत्परो भूत्वा तदर्चनपरो भव
Be steadfast in that, devoted to that, and intent on worshipping that.
सर्वोपाधिविनिर्मुक्तमनन्तममृतं परम्
It is the supreme, infinite, immortal, free from all limiting attributes.
ज्ञानमेव प्रपश्यन्तो मामेव प्रविशन्ति ते
Those who see knowledge itself enter into me alone.
