प्रसन्नवदनं दिव्यमनन्तमहिमास्पदम्

Her face was serene and divine, the abode of infinite greatness.

भीतिं संत्यज्य हृष्टात्मा बभाषे परमेश्वरीम्

Casting off fear, his heart gladdened, he spoke to the supreme goddess.

यन्मे साक्षात् त्वमव्यक्ताप्रसन्ना दृष्टिगोचरा

O you who are directly present before me, unmanifest and gracious, visible to my sight—

त्वय्येव लीयते देवि त्वमेव च परा गतिः

O Goddess, everything dissolves into you alone, and you alone are the supreme goal.

अपरे परमार्थज्ञाः शिवेति शिवसंश्रये

Others, who know the highest truth, call you Śiva, the refuge of auspiciousness.

अविद्या नियतिर्माया कलाद्याः शतशो ऽभवन्

Ignorance, limitation, illusion, and countless powers such as the elements have arisen.

सर्वभेदविनिर्मुक्ता सर्वेभेदाश्रया निजा

You are free from all distinctions, yet all distinctions rest in your own being.

प्रधानाद्यं जगत् कृत्स्नं करोति विकरोति च

From the primordial substance, you create and transform the entire universe.

त्वमेव परमानन्दस्त्वमेवानन्ददायिनी

You alone are supreme bliss; you alone are the giver of bliss.

शिवं सर्वगतं सूक्ष्मं परं ब्रह्मा सनातनम्

You are Śiva, all-pervading, subtle, the supreme eternal Brahman.

वायुर्बलवतां देवि योगिनां त्वं कुमारकः

Among the strong, O Goddess, you are the wind; among yogis, you are Kumāraka.

सांख्यानां कपिलो देवो रुद्राणामसि शङ्करः

Among Sāṃkhyas, you are the god Kapila; among Rudras, you are Śaṅkara.

वेदानां सामवेदस्त्वं गायत्री छन्दसामसि

Among the Vedas, you are the Sāma Veda; among meters, you are Gāyatrī.

माया त्वं सर्वशक्तीनां कालः कलयतामसि

You are Māyā among all powers; among those who measure time, you are Time itself.

आश्रमाणां च गार्हस्थ्यमीश्वराणां महेश्वरः

Among the stages of life, you are householdership; among lords, you are the great Lord.

सर्वोपनिषदां देवि गुह्योपनिषदुच्यते

O Goddess, among all Upaniṣads, you are called the secret Upaniṣad.

आदित्यः सर्वमार्गाणां वाचां देवि सरस्वती

Among all paths, you are the sun; among words, O Goddess, you are Sarasvatī.

अरुन्धती सतीनां त्वं सुपर्णः पततामसि

Among virtuous wives, you are Arundhatī; among those who fly, you are Suparṇa.

सावित्री चासि जप्यानां यजुषां शतरुद्रियम्

You are Sāvitrī among recitations, and the Śatarudriya among Yajur Veda hymns.

सर्वेषां त्वं परं ब्रह्म त्वन्मयं सर्वमेव हि

You are the supreme Brahman of all; indeed, everything is pervaded by you.

नमामि सत्यं तमसः परस्तात्

I bow to the Truth, which is beyond darkness.

तदेव रूपं शरणं प्रपद्ये

I seek refuge in that very form.

प्राणाभिधानं प्रणतो ऽस्मि रूपम्

I bow to the form known as Prāṇa.

नमामि रूपं पुरुषाभिधानम्

I honor the form called Puruṣa.

नतो ऽस्मि ते रूपमलुप्तभेदम्

I bow to your form, which never loses its distinctions.

समन्वितं देवि नतो ऽस्मि रूपम्

O Goddess, I bow to your form endowed with all qualities.

नतो ऽस्मि रूपं जगदण्डसंज्ञम्

I bow to the form known as the cosmic egg.

नमामि रूपं रविमण्डलस्थम्

I honor the form abiding in the solar orb.

नारायणाख्यं प्रणतो ऽस्मि रूपम्

I bow to the form called Nārāyaṇa.
