मेना हिमवतः पत्नी प्राहेदं पर्वतेश्वरम्
Menā, wife of Himavat, spoke these words to the Lord of the mountains:
हिताय सर्वभूतानां जाता च तपसावयोः
She was born for the welfare of all beings, from the austerities of both of us.
कपर्दिनीं चतुर्वक्त्रां त्रिनेत्रामतिलालसाम्
She was adorned with matted hair, had four faces, three eyes, and was exceedingly radiant.
निर्गुणां सगुणां साक्षात् सदसद्व्यक्तिवर्जिताम्
She is without attributes and with attributes, manifest before all, beyond both existence and non-existence.
भीतः कृताञ्जलिस्तस्याः प्रोवाच परमेश्वरीम्
Frightened, with joined palms, he spoke to that Supreme Lady.
न जाने त्वामहं वत्से यथावद् ब्रूहि पृच्छते
O gentle one, I do not know you as you truly are; tell me as I ask.
व्याजहार महाशैलं योगिनामभयप्रदा
She, the giver of fearlessness to yogis, addressed the great mountain.
अनन्यामव्ययामेकां यां पश्यन्ति मुमुक्षवः
She is unique, imperishable, and one, whom seekers of liberation behold.
शाश्वतैश्वर्यविज्ञानमूर्तिः सर्वप्रवर्तिका
She is the embodiment of eternal sovereignty and knowledge, the source of all activity.
दिव्यं ददामि ते चक्षुः पश्य मे रूपमैश्वरम्
I grant you divine sight; behold my sovereign form.
स्वं रूपं दर्शयामास दिव्यं तत् पारमेश्वरम्
She revealed her own divine, supreme form.
ज्वालामालासहस्त्राढ्यं कालानलशतोपमम्
It was adorned with thousands of garlands of flames, resembling hundreds of fires of dissolution.
त्रिशूलवरहस्तं च घोररूपं भयानकम्
She held a trident and a boar in her hands, her form was terrible and fearsome.
चन्द्रावयवलक्ष्माणं चन्द्रकोटिसमप्रभम्
Her body shone with the marks of the moon, radiant as ten million moons.
दिव्यमाल्याम्बरधरं दिव्यगन्धानुलेपनम्
She was adorned with divine garlands and garments, anointed with celestial fragrances.
अण्डस्थं चाण्डबाह्यस्थं बाह्यमाभ्यन्तरं परम्
She was within the cosmic egg, outside the egg, transcendent, both within and without.
ब्रह्मोन्द्रोपेन्द्रयोगीन्द्रैर्वन्द्यमानपदाम्बुजम्
Her lotus feet were worshipped by Brahma, Indra, Upendra, and the lords of yogis.
सर्वमावृत्य तिष्ठन्तं ददर्श परमेश्वरम्
He beheld the Supreme Lady pervading and abiding in all.
भयेन च समाविष्टः स राजा हृष्टमानसः
Overcome by fear, yet with a heart filled with joy, that king was.
नाम्नामष्टसहस्त्रेण तुष्टाव परमेश्वरीम्
He praised the Supreme Lady with a thousand and eight names.
शान्ता माहेश्वरी नित्या शाश्वती परमाक्षरा
She is peaceful, the great power of Shiva, eternal, everlasting, and the supreme imperishable.
अनादिरव्यया शुद्धा देवात्मा सर्वगाचला
She is without beginning, undecaying, pure, divine in essence, all-pervading, and unshakable.
महामाहेश्वरी सत्या महादेवी निरञ्जना
She is the great power of Shiva, truthful, the great goddess, and stainless.
नन्दा सर्वात्मिका विद्या ज्योतीरूपामृताक्षरा
She is Nanda, the soul of all, knowledge itself, of the form of light, immortal, and imperishable.
व्योममूर्तिर्व्योमलया व्योमाधाराच्युतामरा
She has the form of space, abides in space, is the support of space, imperishable, and immortal.
क्रतुः प्रथमजा नाभिरमृतस्यात्मसंश्रया
She is the ritual, the first-born, the navel of immortality, and the refuge of the Self.
प्राणेश्वरी प्राणरूपा प्रधानपुरुषेश्वरी
She is the mistress of life, of the form of breath, and the sovereign of both primordial matter and spirit.
सर्वकार्यनियन्त्री च सर्वभूतेश्वरेश्वरी
She is the controller of all actions and the goddess of all beings and their lords.
आकाशयोनिर्योगस्था महायोगेश्वरेश्वरी
She is born of space, established in union, and the goddess of the lords of great yoga.
संसारयोनिः सकला सर्वशक्तिसमुद्भवा
She is the source of worldly existence, complete, and the origin of all powers.
