अधिष्ठानवशात् तस्याः शृणुध्वं मुनिपुङ्गवाः
Because of her being the substratum, hear, O foremost sages, what follows.
चतुर्व्यूहस्ततो देवः प्रोच्यते परमेश्वरः
Therefore, the Supreme Lord is said to be of four emanations.
चतुर्ष्वपि च वेदेषु चतुर्मूर्तिर्महेश्वरः
And in all four Vedas, the Great Lord is of four forms.
तत्सम्बन्धादनन्ताया रुद्रेण परमात्मना
Because of his connection with the infinite, Rudra is the Supreme Self.
प्रोच्यते भगवान् कालो हरिः प्राणो महेश्वरः
Thus, the Blessed Lord is called Time, Hari, Life-breath, and the Great Lord.
स कालो ऽग्निर्हरो रुद्रो गीयते वेदवादिभिः
That Time is sung by the Vedic scholars as Agni, Hara, and Rudra.
सर्वे कालस्य वशगा न कालः कस्यचिद् वशे
All are subject to Time; Time is not subject to anyone.
कालेनान्यानि तत्त्वानि समाविष्टानि योगिना
By Time, the other principles are entered into by the yogin.
तयेदं भ्रामयेदीशो मायावी पुरुषोत्तमः
By her, the Lord, the supreme magician, causes this world to revolve.
वैश्वरूप्यं महेशस्य सर्वदा संप्रकाशयेत्
He always reveals the universal form of the Great Lord.
ज्ञानशक्तिः क्रियाशक्तिः प्राणशक्तिरिति त्रयम्
The power of knowledge, the power of action, and the power of life-breath—these three.
माययैवाथ विप्रेन्द्राः सा चानादिरनन्तया
Indeed, O best of Brahmins, it is through Māyā, and she is beginningless and infinite.
मायावी सर्वशक्तीशः कालः कालकारः प्रभुः
The magician, the Lord of all powers, Time, the maker of Time, the master.
कालः स्थापयते विश्वं कालाधीनमिदं जगत्
Time establishes the universe; this world is dependent on Time.
अनन्तस्याखिलेशस्य शंभोः कालात्मनः प्रभोः
Of Ananta, the Lord of all, of Śambhu, the Master who is Time itself—
एका सर्वगतानन्ता केवला निष्कला शिवा
There is one, all-pervading, infinite, unique, partless, auspicious (Śiva) power.
शक्तयः शक्तिमन्तो ऽन्ये सर्वशक्तिसमुद्भवाः
Other powers, endowed with potency, all arise from that supreme power.
अभेदं चानुपश्यन्ति योगिनस्तत्त्वचिन्तकाः
Yogis who contemplate reality perceive no distinction (between them).
विशेषः कथ्यते चायं पुराणे ब्रह्मवादिभिः
Yet this distinction is explained in the Purāṇas by those versed in Brahman.
प्रोच्यते भगवान् भोक्ता कपर्दे नीललोहितः
The Lord, the enjoyer, is called Kapardin, the blue-red one.
प्रोच्यते मतिरीशानी मन्तव्या च विचारतः
The mind is called Īśānī, and should be considered with discernment.
प्रोच्यते सर्ववेदेषु मुनिभिस्तत्त्वदर्शिभिः
This is declared in all the Vedas by sages who see the truth.
सर्ववेदान्तवेदेषु निश्चितं ब्रह्मवादिभिः
It is established by those who know Brahman in all the Vedānta and Vedas.
योगिनस्तत् प्रपश्यन्ति महादेव्याः परं पदम्
Yogis behold that supreme state of the great Goddess.
योगिनस्तत् प्रपश्यन्ति महादेव्याः परं पदम्
Yogis behold that supreme state of the great Goddess.
अनन्तप्रकृतौ लीनं देव्यास्तत् परमं पदम्
That supreme state of the Goddess is merged in the infinite Prakṛti.
आत्मोपलब्धिविषयं देव्यास्तत् परमं पदम्
That supreme state of the Goddess is the domain of self-realization.
संसारतापानखिलान् निहन्तीश्वरसंश्रया
By taking refuge in the Lord, she destroys all the sufferings of worldly existence.
आश्रयेत् सर्वभावानामात्मभूतां शिवात्मिकाम्
One should take refuge in Śivātmikā, the essence of Śiva, who is the self of all beings.
सभार्यः शरं यातः पार्वतीं परमेश्वरीम्
With his wife, he sought refuge in Pārvatī, the supreme Lady.
