वीतरागांश्च सर्वज्ञान् कोटिकोटिशतान् प्रभुः
The Lord made them free from passion, all-knowing, and numbering in hundreds of millions.
जरामरणनिर्मुक्तान् व्याजहरा हरं गुरुः
The Guru Hara declared them free from old age and death.
अन्याः सृजस्व भूतेश जन्ममृत्युसमन्विताः
O Lord of beings, create others who are subject to birth and death.
नास्ति मे तादृशः सर्गः सृज त्वमशुभाः प्रजाः
I have no such creation; you should create inauspicious beings.
स्थाणुत्वं तेन तस्यासीद् देवदेवस्य शूलिनः
Thus, the state of immovability belonged to the god of gods, the wielder of the trident.
स्त्रष्टृत्वमात्मसंबोधो ह्यधिष्ठातृत्वमेव च
He possessed the power of creation, self-awareness, and indeed, the authority of presiding over all.
स एव शङ्करः साक्षात् पिनाकी परमेश्वरः
He himself is Śaṅkara in person, the bearer of the bow Pināka, the supreme lord.
सहैव मानसैः पुत्रैः प्रीतिविस्फारिलोचनः
With his mind-born sons, his eyes wide with joy,
तुष्टाव जगतामेकं कृत्वा शिरसि चाञ्जलिम्
He praised the One Lord of the worlds, joining his hands in reverence upon his head.
नमः शिवाय देवाय नमस्ते ब्रह्मरूपिणे
Salutations to Śiva, the divine one; homage to you who are the embodiment of Brahman.
प्रधानपुरुषेशाय योगाधिपतये नमः
Homage to the Lord of Pradhāna and Puruṣa, to the master of yoga.
नमः पिनाकहस्ताय त्रिनेत्राय नमो नमः
Salutations to the one who holds the Pināka, to the three-eyed one, repeated salutations.
ब्रह्मविद्याधिपतये ब्रह्मविद्याप्रदायिने
To the Lord of the knowledge of Brahman, to the giver of the knowledge of Brahman,
वेदान्तसारसाराय नमो वेदात्ममूर्तये
To the essence of the essence of Vedānta, homage to the one whose form is the very self of the Vedas.
प्रहीणशोकैर्विविधैर्भूतैः वरिवृताय ते
To you, who are surrounded by beings freed from various sorrows,
त्रियम्बकाय देवाय नमस्ते परमेष्ठिने
Salutations to the three-eyed god, to the supreme lord.
अनादिमलहीनाय ज्ञानगम्याय ते नमः
Homage to you, who are beginningless and free from impurity, who are attainable through knowledge.
नमो धर्माधिगम्याय योगगम्याय ते नमः
Salutations to you, who are attainable through righteousness and through yoga.
ब्रह्मणे विश्वरूपाय नमस्ते परमात्मने
To Brahman, the one of universal form, homage to the supreme self.
त्वया संह्रियते विश्वं प्रधानाद्यं जगन्मय
By you, O embodiment of the universe, the world, beginning with Pradhāna, is dissolved.
परमेष्ठी शिवः शान्तः पुरुषो निष्कलो हरः
The supreme lord, Śiva, tranquil, the person, partless, the remover.
त्वमेव पुरुषो ऽनन्तः प्रधानं प्रकृतिस्तथा
You alone are the infinite person, as well as Pradhāna and Prakṛti.
यस्य रूपं नमस्यामि भवन्तं ब्रह्मसंज्ञितम्
I bow to that form of yours, revered as Brahman.
आकाशमुदरं तस्मै विराजे प्रणमाम्यहम्
I offer my salutations to him whose belly is the sky and who shines forth.
ब्रह्मतेजोमयं नित्यं तस्मै सूर्यात्मने नमः
Homage to him who is eternally composed of Brahman’s radiance, the essence of the sun.
कव्यं पितृगणानां च तस्मै वह्न्यात्मने नमः
Homage to him who is the essence of fire, the offering for the hosts of ancestors.
पीयते देवतासङ्घैस्तस्मै सोमात्मने नमः
Homage to him who is the essence of Soma, drunk by the assemblies of gods.
शक्तिर्माहेश्चरी तुभ्यं तस्मै वाय्वात्मने नमः
Homage to him who is the essence of wind, whose power moves with the greatness of Maheśvara.
स्वात्मन्यवस्थितस्तस्मै चतुर्वक्त्रात्मने नमः
Homage to him who abides in his own self, the essence of the four-faced one.
स्वात्मानुभूतियोगेन तस्मै विश्वात्मने नमः
Homage to him who is the soul of the universe, realized through union with one's own self.
