सिद्धचारणसंकीर्णो देवर्षिगणसेवितः
That place is thronged with Siddhas and Cāraṇas, and attended by hosts of Devarṣis.
तत्र गत्वा द्विजो विद्वान् ब्रह्महत्यां विमुञ्चति
There, a learned Brāhmaṇa, upon arrival, is freed from the sin of killing a Brāhmaṇa.
तारयेच्च पितॄन् सम्यग् दश पूर्वान् दशापरान्
He also properly delivers his ancestors—ten before and ten after.
नद्यः समुद्रगाः पुण्याः समुद्रश्च विशेषतः
The rivers that flow to the ocean are holy, and especially the ocean itself.
तत्र नारायणो देवो नरेणास्ते सनातनः
There, the eternal Lord Nārāyaṇa abides among men.
तारयेच्च पितॄन् सर्वान् दत्त्वा श्राद्धं समाहितः
By offering śrāddha with devotion, he delivers all his ancestors.
महादेवेन देवेन तत्र दत्तं महद् वरं
There, the great god Mahādeva granted a great boon.
प्रसन्नो भगवानीशो मुनीन्द्रान् प्राह भावितान्
The blessed Lord, pleased, spoke to the exalted sages.
मद्भावनासमायुक्तास्ततः सिद्धिमवाप्स्यथ
Endowed with devotion to me, you will then attain perfection.
तेषां ददामि परमं गाणपत्यं हि शाश्वतम्
To them I grant the supreme, eternal status of Gaṇapati.
प्राणानिह नरस्त्यक्त्वा न भूयो जन्म विन्दति
A man who gives up his life here does not obtain birth again.
तेषां च सर्वपापानि नाशयामि द्विजोत्तमाः
And I destroy all their sins, O best of Brāhmaṇas.
ध्यानं जपश्च नियमः सर्वमत्राक्षयं कृतम्
Meditation, recitation, and discipline—all these here are rendered inexhaustible.
देवदारुवनं पुण्यं महादेवनिषेवितम्
The forest of Deodar is holy, attended by the great god.
तत्र सन्निहिता गङ्गातीर्थान्यायतनानि च
There are present the sacred bathing places of the Ganga and various shrines.
मोहयामास विप्रेन्द्रान् सूत वक्तुमिहार्हसि
O Suta, you ought to tell how he bewildered the foremost Brahmins here.
सपुत्रदारा मुनयस्तपश्चेरुः सहस्रशः
The sages, along with their sons and wives, practiced austerities by the thousands.
यजन्ति विविधैर्यज्ञैस्तपन्ति च महर्षयः
The great seers perform sacrifices of many kinds and undertake austerities.
ख्यापयन् स महादोषं ययौ दारुवनं हरः
Proclaiming that great fault, Hara went to the Daru forest.
ययौ निवृत्तविज्ञानस्थापनार्थं च शङ्करः
Shankara went there to restore the lost understanding.
लीलालसो महाबाहुः पीनाङ्गश्चारुलोचनः
Eager in play, mighty-armed, broad-bodied, and with beautiful eyes,
मत्तमातङ्गगामनो दिग्वासा जगदीश्वरः
The Lord of the universe, moving like an intoxicated elephant, clothed in the directions alone,
दधानो भगवानीशः समागच्छति सस्मितः
The blessed Lord, smiling, approached while bearing his attributes.
स्त्रीवेषं विष्णुरास्थाय सो ऽनुगच्छति शूलिनम्
Vishnu, assuming the form of a woman, followed the wielder of the trident.
शुचिस्मितं सुप्रसन्नं रणन्नुपुरकद्वयम्
With a pure smile, most radiant, with a pair of anklets ringing,
उदारहंसचलनं विलासि सुमनोहरम्
With noble gait like a swan, playful and exceedingly charming,
चचार हरिणा भिक्षां मायया मोहयन् जगत्
Hari, by his illusion, wandered begging alms in the world, deluding it.
मायया मोहिता नार्यो देवदेवं समन्वयुः
The women, deluded by illusion, followed the god of gods.
सहैव तेन कामार्ता विलासिन्यश्चरन्तिहि
Together with him, overcome by desire, the playful women wandered about.
अन्वगच्छन् हृषीकेशं सर्वे कामप्रपीडिताः
All, afflicted by desire, followed Hrishikesha.
