कृत्वा पिण्डप्रदानं तु न भूयो जायते नरः
Having performed the offering of the funeral cake, a man is not born again.
तारिताः पितरस्तेन यास्यन्ति परमां गतिम्
By him, the ancestors are carried across and will attain the highest state.
शिलातले पदं न्यस्तं तत्र पितॄन् प्रसादयेत्
Placing his foot upon the stone slab there, he should propitiate the ancestors.
शोचन्ति पितरस्तं वै वृथा तस्य परिश्रमः
The ancestors grieve for him; indeed, his effort is in vain.
गयांयास्यतियः कश्चित् सो ऽस्मान् संतारयिष्यति
Whoever among us goes to Gayā will deliver us.
गयां यास्यति वंश्यो यः सो ऽस्मान् संतारयिष्यति
Whoever of our lineage goes to Gayā will deliver us.
तेषां तु समवेतानां यद्येको ऽपि गयां व्रजेत्
If even one among them assembled should go to Gayā—
प्रदद्याद् विधिवत् पिण्डान् गयां गत्वा समाहितः
Having gone to Gayā with concentration, he should duly offer the funeral cakes.
कुलान्युभयतः सप्त समुद्धृत्याप्नुयात् परम्
He lifts up seven generations on both sides of the family and attains the highest.
प्रभासमिति विख्यातं यत्रास्ते भगवान् भवः
That place is renowned as Prabhāsa, where the divine Bhava abides.
कृत्वा लोकमवाप्नोति ब्रह्मणो ऽक्षय्यमुत्तमम्
Having performed (the rites) there, one attains the supreme, imperishable world of Brahmā.
पूजयित्वा तत्र रुद्रं ज्योतिष्टोमफलं लभेत्
Having worshipped Rudra there, one obtains the fruit of the Jyotiṣṭoma sacrifice.
ब्राह्मणान् पूजयित्वा तु गाणपत्यं लभेद् ध्रुवम्
Having worshipped the brāhmaṇas, one surely attains the state of Gaṇapati.
सर्वव्याधिहरं पुण्यं रुद्रसालोक्यकारणम्
It removes all diseases, is meritorious, and is the cause of attaining Rudra’s world.
तत्र लिङ्गं महेशस्य विजयं नाम विश्रुतम्
There is the liṅga of the great Lord, famed as Vijaya.
उषित्वा तत्र विप्रेन्द्रा यास्यन्ति परमं पदम्
Having dwelt there, the foremost brāhmaṇas will attain the supreme state.
एकाम्रं देवदेवस्य गाणपत्यफलप्रदम्
The single mango tree of the God of gods grants the fruit of Gaṇapati worship.
सार्वभौमो भवेद् राजा मुमुक्षुर्मोक्षमाप्नुयात्
A king becomes sovereign over all; one seeking liberation attains mokṣa.
ग्रहणे समुपस्पृश्य मुच्यते सर्वपातकैः
By touching it at the time of the rite, one is freed from all sins.
तस्यां स्नात्वा नरो विप्रा ब्रह्मलोके महीयते
Having bathed there, O Brahmins, a man is honored in the world of Brahma.
तत्र नारायणः श्रीमानास्ते परमपूरुषः
There, Narayana, glorious, abides as the Supreme Person.
ब्राह्मणान् पूजयित्वा तु विष्णुलोकमवाप्नुयात्
By worshipping Brahmins there, one attains the realm of Vishnu.
सर्वपापहरं शंभोर्निवासः परमेष्ठिनः
It is the abode of Shambhu, the supreme lord, remover of all sins.
ईप्सितांल्लभते कामान् रुद्रस्य दयितो भवेत्
He obtains desired pleasures and becomes beloved of Rudra.
महादेवस्यार्चयित्वा शिवसायुज्यमाप्नुयात्
By worshipping Mahadeva, one attains union with Shiva.
तं दृष्ट्वा सर्वपापेभ्यो मुच्यते तत्क्षणान्नरः
Upon seeing him, a man is freed from all sins at that very moment.
संपूज्य पुरुषं विष्णुं श्वेतद्वीपे महीयते
By worshipping Vishnu, the Person, he is honored in Shvetadwipa.
कृत्वा यज्ञस्य मथनं दक्षस्य तु विसर्जितः
Having performed the churning of the sacrifice, he is released by Daksha.
पुण्यमायतनं विष्णोस्तत्रास्ते पुरुषोत्तमः
There stands the holy abode of Vishnu, the Supreme Person.
मृतो ऽत्र पातकैर्मुक्तो विष्णुसारूप्यमाप्नुयात्
One who dies there, freed from sins, attains resemblance to Vishnu.
