को वा तरति तां मायां दुर्जयां देवनिर्मिताम्
Who can cross this Māyā, difficult to conquer and fashioned by the gods?
अस्ति द्विजातिप्रवर इन्द्रद्युम्न इति श्रुतः
There is a distinguished twice-born, renowned as Indradyumna.
संहितां मन्मुखाद् दिव्यां पुरस्कृत्य मुनीश्वरान्
Having received the divine Samhitā from my own mouth, he led the foremost sages.
मच्छक्तौ संस्थितान् बुद्ध्वा मामेव शरणं गतः
Recognizing those sages as established in my power, he sought refuge in me alone.
इन्द्रद्युम्न इति ख्यातो जातिं स्मरसि पौर्विकीम्
He is known as Indradyumna; you remember your previous birth.
लब्ध्वा तन्मामकं ज्ञानं मामेवान्ते प्रवेक्ष्यसि
Having attained that knowledge belonging to me, you will enter into me at the end.
वैवस्वते ऽन्तरे ऽतिते कार्यार्थं मां प्रवेक्ष्यसि
When the interval of Vaivasvata has passed, you will enter me for the sake of your task.
कालधर्मं गतः कालाच्छ्वेतद्वीपे मया सह
Having gone according to the law of time, you will be with me on Śvetadvīpa.
मदाज्ञया मुनिश्रेष्ठा जज्ञे विप्रकुले पुनः
By my command, O best of sages, you were born again in a family of Brāhmaṇas.
विद्याविद्ये गूढरूपे यत्तद् ब्रह्म परं विदुः
That which is known as Brahman, supreme, is concealed in the forms of knowledge and ignorance.
व्रतोपवासनियमैर्हेमैर्ब्राह्मणतर्पणैः
Through vows, fasting, discipline, gold, and offerings to Brāhmaṇas,
आराधयन् महादेवं योगिनां हृदि संस्थितम्
He worshipped Mahādeva, who dwells in the hearts of yogis.
स्वरूपं दर्शयामास दिव्यं विष्णुसमुद्भवम्
He revealed his own divine form, which arose from Viṣṇu.
संस्तूय विविधैः स्तोत्रैः कृताञ्जलिरभाषत
Having praised him with various hymns, with joined palms he spoke.
याथातथ्येन वै भावं तवेदानीं ब्रवीहि मे
Now, tell me the truth of the matter as it really is.
हसन्ती संस्मरन् विष्णुं प्रियं ब्राह्मणमब्रवीत्
Smiling and recalling Viṣṇu, she spoke to the beloved brāhmaṇa.
नारायणात्मिका चैका मायाहं तन्मया परा
I am the one supreme Māyā, whose essence is Nārāyaṇa.
तन्मयाहं परं ब्रह्म स विष्णुः परमेश्वरः
Through me, I am the supreme Brahman; that Viṣṇu is the highest Lord.
ज्ञानेन कर्मयोगेन न तेषां प्रभवाम्यहम्
By knowledge or by the yoga of action, I am not attained by them.
ज्ञानेनाराधयानन्तं ततो मोक्षमवाप्स्यसि
By worshiping the Infinite with knowledge, you will then attain liberation.
प्रणम्य शिरसा देवीं प्राञ्जलिः पुनरब्रवीत्
Bowing his head to the goddess, with joined palms he spoke again.
ज्ञातुं हि शक्यते देवि ब्रूहि मे परमेश्वरि
O goddess, it can indeed be known; tell me, O supreme Lady.
साक्षान्नारायणो ज्ञानं दास्यतीत्याह तं मुनिम्
She said to that sage: 'Nārāyaṇa himself will grant you knowledge.'
स्मृत्वा परात्परं विष्णुं तत्रैवान्तरधीयत
Remembering Viṣṇu, the Supreme beyond the supreme, she vanished right there.
आराधयद्धृषीकेशं प्रणतार्तिप्रभञ्जनम्
He worshiped Hṛṣīkeśa, the dispeller of the distress of those who bow.
प्रादुरासीन्महायोगी पीतवासा जगन्मयः
The great yogi appeared, clad in yellow garments, pervading the universe.
जानुभ्यामवनिं गत्वा तुष्टाव गरुडध्वजम्
Going down on his knees to the ground, he praised the one with Garuḍa as his banner.
कुष्ण विष्णो हृषीकेश तुभ्यं विश्वात्मने नमः
O Kṛṣṇa, O Viṣṇu, O Hṛṣīkeśa, obeisance to you, the soul of the universe.
सर्गस्थितिविनाशानां हेतवे ऽनन्तशक्ये
To you, the cause of creation, preservation, and destruction, O one of infinite power.
पुरुषाय नमस्तुभ्यं विश्वरूपाय ते नमः
Obeisance to you, the Puruṣa; obeisance to you, whose form is the universe.
