संमृज्याङ्गुष्ठमूलेन मुखं वै समुपस्पृशेत्
One should cleanse and touch the mouth with the base of the thumb.

दन्तवद् दन्तलग्नेषु जिह्वास्पर्शे ऽशुचिर्भवेत्
If the tongue touches the teeth or objects attached to the teeth, one becomes impure.
भूमिगैस्ते समा ज्ञेया न तैरप्रयतो भवेत्
Objects placed on the ground should be considered equal to the earth; one should not use them without proper intent.
फलमूले चेक्षुदण्डे न दोषं प्राह वे मनुः
Manu declares that there is no fault in fruits, roots, or sugarcane.
भूमौ निक्षिप्य तद् द्रव्यमाचम्याभ्युक्षयेत् तु तत्
Placing that substance on the ground, one should sip water and sprinkle it.

अह्नि कुर्याच्छकृन्मूत्रं रात्रौ चेद् दक्षिणामुखः
One should pass stool and urine during the day, but at night, facing south.
प्रावृत्य च शिरः कुर्याद् विण्मूत्रस्य विसर्जनम्
One should cover the head while evacuating stool and urine.
अग्नौ चैव श्मशाने च विण्मूत्रे न समाचरेत्
One should not perform acts of purification in fire, in a cremation ground, or in urine or feces.
न तिष्ठन् वा न निर्वासा न च पर्वतमस्तके
Nor while standing, nor in a place without shelter, nor on the summit of a mountain.
न ससत्त्वेषु गर्तेषु न गच्छन् वा समाचरेत्
Nor among living beings, nor in pits, nor while walking should one perform it.
न क्षेत्रे न विले वापि न तीर्थे न चतुष्पथे
Not in a field, nor in a marsh, nor at a sacred ford, nor at a crossroads.
न सोपानत्पादुको वा छत्री वा नान्तरिक्षके
Not on steps, nor while wearing shoes, nor while holding an umbrella, nor in mid-air.
न देवदेवालययोरपामपि कदाचन
Never in temples of gods or at places of water.
प्रत्यादित्यं प्रत्यनलं प्रतिसोमं तथैव च
One should not perform it facing the sun, fire, or the moon.
कुर्यादतन्द्रितः शौचं विशुद्धैरुद्धृतोदकैः
One should carefully perform purification with clean water that has been drawn.
न मार्गान्नोषराद् देशाच्छौचशिष्टां परस्य च
One should not use water from roads, barren places, or that left over by another for purification.
उपस्पृशेत् ततो नित्यं पूर्वोक्तेन विधानतः
After that, one should always touch water as prescribed earlier.
आहूतो ऽध्ययनं कुर्याद् वीक्षमाणो गुरोर्मुखम्
When called, one should study while looking at the teacher's face.
आस्यतामिति चोक्तः सन्नासीताभिमुखं गुरोः
When told 'be seated,' one should sit facing the teacher.
नासीनो न च भुञ्जानो न तिष्ठन्न पराङ्मुखः
One should not sit, eat, or stand with one's back to the teacher.
गुरोस्तु चक्षुर्विषये न यथेष्टासनो भवेत्
Within the teacher's line of sight, one should not sit as one pleases.
