मद्भावनासमायुक्ता मुच्यन्ते ते ऽपि भावतः
Even those endowed with devotion to me are liberated by that very state.
मामेव संश्रयेदीशं स याति परमं पदम्
One who takes refuge in me, the Lord, alone, attains the supreme state.
यजेच्चामरणाल्लिङ्गे विरक्तः परमेश्वरम्
One should worship the Supreme Lord in the liṅga, with detachment, until death.
एकेन जन्मना तेषां ददामि परमैश्वरम्
To such persons, I grant supreme lordship in a single birth.
ज्ञानात्मकं सर्वगतं योगिनां हृदि संस्थितम्
It is knowledge in essence, all-pervading, established in the hearts of yogis.
यत्र क्वचन तल्लिङ्गमर्चयन्ति महेश्वरम्
Wherever the liṅga of the Great Lord is worshipped, in any place,
रत्नादौ भावयित्वेशमर्चयेल्लिङ्गमैश्वरम्
Having conceived the Lord in a jewel or other substance, one should worship the liṅga of the Supreme Lord.
तस्माल्लिङ्गे ऽर्चयेदीशं यत्र क्वचन शाश्वतम्
Therefore, one should worship the eternal Lord in the liṅga, wherever it may be.
काष्ठादिष्वेव मूर्खाणां हृदि लिङ्गन्तुयोगिनाम्
For the ignorant, the liṅga is in wood and such; for yogis, it is in the heart.
यावज्जीवं जपेद् युक्तः प्रणवं ब्रह्मणो वपुः
Engaged in practice, one should recite the praṇava, the form of Brahman, for as long as life lasts.
एकाकी यतचित्तात्मा स याति परमं पदम्
Alone, with mind and self controlled, he attains the supreme state.
सो ऽपीश्वरप्रसादेन याति तत् परमं पदम्
He too, by the grace of the Lord, attains that supreme state.
ददाति तत् परं ज्ञानं येन मुच्येत बन्धनात्
He grants that supreme knowledge by which one is freed from bondage.
तेनैव जन्मना ज्ञानं लब्ध्वा याति शिवं पदम्
Having attained knowledge in that very life, one reaches the auspicious state.
सर्वे तरन्ति संसारमीश्वरानुग्रहाद् द्विजाः
All cross over worldly existence by the grace of the Lord, O twice-born.
धर्मं समाश्रयेत् तस्मान्मुक्तये नियतं द्विजाः
Therefore, O twice-born, one should always adhere to dharma for the sake of liberation.
धार्मिकायैव दातव्यं भक्ताय ब्रह्मचारिणे
It should be given only to the righteous, to the devoted, to the celibate.
व्याजहार समासीनं नारायणमनामयम्
He spoke to Nārāyaṇa, the flawless one, who was seated.
दातव्यं शान्तचित्तेभ्यः शिष्येभ्यो भवता शिवम्
This auspicious teaching should be given by you to disciples of peaceful mind.
हिताय सर्वभक्तानां द्विजातीनां द्विजोत्तमाः
For the benefit of all devoted twice-born, O best of twice-born.
उपदेक्ष्यन्ति भक्तानां सर्वेषां वचनान्मम
All will instruct the devotees according to my word.
नान्तरं ये प्रपश्यन्ति तेषां देयमिदं परम्
This supreme teaching should be given to those who see no distinction within.
सर्वभूतात्मभूतस्था शान्ता चाक्षरसंज्ञिता
Peaceful, abiding as the self of all beings, and called imperishable.
न ते मां संप्रपश्यन्ति जायन्ते च पुनः पुनः
They do not truly see me, and are born again and again.
एकीभावेन पश्यन्ति न तेषां पुनरुद्भवः
Those who see with unity do not undergo rebirth.
मामेव संप्रपश्यध्वं पूजयध्वं तथैव हि
See me alone and worship me in the very same way.
ते यान्ति नरकान् घोरान् नाहं तेषुव्यवस्थितः
They go to terrible hells; I do not abide among them.
मोचयामि श्वपाकं वा न नारायणनिन्दकम्
I may liberate even a dog-eater, but not one who reviles Nārāyaṇa.
अर्चनीयो नमस्कार्यो मत्प्रीतिजननाय हि
He is to be worshipped and saluted, for it brings about my pleasure.
अन्तर्हितो ऽभवत् तेषां सर्वेषामेव पश्यताम्
He became invisible to them, even as all of them were watching.
