तत्सर्वं प्रतिजानीध्वं मम तेजोविजृम्भितम्
Know all this to be the manifestation of my own radiance.
तेषां पतिरहं देवः स्मृतः पशुपतिर्बुधैः
Of them, I am the Lord, the god remembered by the wise as Paśupati.
मामेव मोचकं प्राहुः पशूनां वेदवादिनः
The knowers of the Veda declare me alone to be the liberator of beings.
मामृते परमात्मानं भूताधिपतिमव्ययम्
Apart from me, the Supreme Self, the imperishable Lord of beings, there is none.
एते पाशाः पशुपतेः क्लेशाश्च पशुबन्धनाः
These are the bonds of Paśupati, and the afflictions that bind beings.
एताः प्रकृतयस्त्वष्टौ विकाराश्च तथापरे
These are the eight primal natures, and likewise other modifications.
पायूपस्थं करौ पादौ वाक् चैव दशमी मता
The anus, the generative organ, the two hands, the two feet, and speech are considered the tenth.
त्रयोविंशतिरेतानि तत्त्वानि प्राकृतानि तु
These twenty-three are the primary principles of nature.
अनादिमध्यनिधनं कारणं जगतः परम्
The beginningless, middleless, and endless cause, the supreme cause of the world.
साम्यावस्थितिमेतेषामव्यक्तं प्रकृतिं विदुः
The state of equilibrium of these is known as the unmanifest, the primal nature.
गुणानां बुद्धिवैषम्याद् वैषम्यं कवयो विदुः
The wise know that diversity among qualities arises from differences in understanding.
मय्यर्पितानि कर्माणि निबन्धाय विमुक्तये
Actions offered to me lead either to bondage or to liberation.
क्लेशाख्यानचलान् प्राहुः पाशानात्मनिबन्धनान्
They call those bonds, known as afflictions, the fetters that bind the self.
मूलप्रकृतिरव्यक्ता सा शक्तिर्मयि तिष्ठति
The root-prakriti, unmanifest, is the power that abides in me.
विकारा महदादीनि देवदेवः सनातनः
The evolutes, beginning with the great principle, belong to the eternal Lord of gods.
तमाहुरग्र्यं पुरुषं पुराणम्
They call him the supreme, primeval Person.
येनासौ तरते जन्तुर्घोरं संसारसागरम्
By whom a creature crosses the dreadful ocean of worldly existence.
एकाकी भगवानुक्तः केवलः परमेश्वरः
He is alone, the blessed one, called the sole, supreme Lord.
मूलं मायाभिधानं तु ततो जातमिदं जगत्
The root, called māyā, from that this world has arisen.
तन्मात्राणि महाभूतानीन्द्रियाणि च जज्ञिरे
From it were born the subtle elements, the great elements, and the senses.
तस्मिन् जज्ञे महाब्रह्मा मच्छक्त्या चोपबृंहितः
Within that was born the great Brahmā, strengthened by my power.
न मां पश्यन्ति पितरं मायया मम मोहिताः
Deluded by my māyā, they do not see me, their father.
तासां माया परा योनिर्मामेव पितरं विदुः
Of those, māyā is the supreme source; they know me alone as the father.
स धीरः सर्वलोकेषु न मोहमधिगच्छति
That steadfast one, in all worlds, does not fall into delusion.
ओङ्कारमूर्तिर्भगवानहं ब्रह्मा प्रजापतिः
I am the Lord, embodied as the syllable Om, Brahmā, and Prajāpati.
विनश्यत्स्वविनश्यन्तं यः पश्यति स पश्यति
He who sees the imperishable amid the perishing, he truly sees.
न हिनस्त्यात्मनात्मानं ततो याति पराङ्गतिम्
He does not harm himself by himself, and thus attains the highest state.
प्रधानविनियोगज्ञः परं ब्रह्माधिगच्छति
He who knows the function of pradhāna attains the supreme Brahman.
षडाहुरङ्गानि महेश्वरस्य
The six limbs of the Great Lord are declared.
बन्धः प्रोक्तो विनियोगो ऽपि तेन
Bondage is spoken of, as well as its application by him.
