वशवर्तिनश्च पञ्चैते गणा द्वादशकाः स्मृताः
These five groups, each consisting of twelve, are known as the Vasavartins.
सुतपाः शुक्र इत्येते सप्त सप्तर्षयो ऽभवन्
Sutapa, Shukra, and others—these seven became the seven great sages.
सत्याश्च सुधियश्चैव सप्तविंशतिका गणाः
The Satyas and Sudhiyas, numbering twenty-seven groups, were present.
बभूव शङ्करे भक्तो महादेवार्चने रतः
He became a devotee of Shankara, delighting in the worship of Mahadeva.
पीवरस्त्वृषयो ह्येते सप्त तत्रापि चान्तरे
Pivara and other sages—these seven were also present in that interval.
मनुर्वसुश्च तत्रेन्द्रो बभूवासुरमर्दनः
There, Manu Vasu became the lord of the gods, the subduer of asuras.
एते देवगणास्तत्र चतुर्दश चतुर्दश
There, these groups of gods were fourteen in number, each fourteen.
एते सप्तर्षयो विप्रास्तत्रासन् रैवते ऽन्तरे
These seven sages, O Brahmins, were present in the Raivata interval.
प्रियव्रतान्वया ह्येते चत्वारो मनवः स्मृताः
These four Manus, it is said, were descended from Priyavrata.
मनोजवस्तथैवेन्द्रो देवानपि निबोधतः
Manojava was likewise the lord of the gods; listen also about the gods.
महानुभावा लेख्याश्च पञ्चैते ह्यष्टका गणाः
The Mahānubhāvas and Lekhyas—these five groups, each of eight, are known.
अतिनामा सहिष्णुश्च सप्तासन्नृषयः शुभाः
Atināma and Sahiṣṇu, and others—these seven auspicious sages were present.
मनुः स वर्तते धीमान् सांप्रतं सप्तमे ऽन्तरे
That wise Manu now exists in the seventh Manvantara.
पुरन्दरस्तथैवेन्द्रो बभूव परवीरहा
Likewise, Purandara, Indra, the destroyer of enemy hosts, was present.
विश्वामित्रो भरद्वाजः सप्त सप्तर्षयो ऽभवन्
Viśvāmitra and Bharadvāja, these seven became the Seven Sages.
तदंशभूता राजानः सर्वे च त्रिदिवौकसः
At that time, all the kings and the dwellers of heaven were portions of him.
रुचेः प्रजापतेर्यज्ञस्तदंशेनाभवद् द्विजाः
O twice-born, from Prajāpati Ruci, Yajña was born as a portion.
तुषितायां समुत्पन्नस्तुषितैः सह दैवतैः
He was born in Tuṣitā, together with the Tuṣita gods.
सत्यायामभवत् सत्यः सत्यरूपो जनार्दनः
In Satyā, Satya was born—Janārdana in the form of truth.
हर्यायां हरिभिर्देवैर्हरिरेवाभवद्धरिः
In Haryā, Hari himself became Hari, along with the gods called Haris.
संभूतो मानसैः सार्धं देवैः सह महाद्युतिः
That great radiant one appeared together with the mind-born gods.
विकुण्ठायामसौ जज्ञे वैकुण्ठैर्दैवतैः सह
In Vikuṇṭhā, he was born along with the Vaikuṇṭha gods.
वामनः कश्यपाद् विष्णुरदित्यां संबभूव ह
Viṣṇu, as Vāmana, was indeed born from Kaśyapa in Aditi.
पुरन्दराय त्रैलोक्यं दत्तं निहतकण्टकम्
The three worlds, cleared of thorns, were given to Purandara.
सप्त चैवाभवन् विप्रा याभिः संरक्षिताः प्रजाः
And there were seven Brāhmaṇas by whom the people were protected.
तस्मात् स वै स्मृतो विष्णुर्विशेर्धातोः प्रवेशनात्
Therefore, he is called Viṣṇu because he enters (viś) all things.
भूतान्तरात्मा भगवान् नारायण इति श्रुतिः
The Lord, Nārāyaṇa, is declared in the Veda as the inner soul of beings.
चतुर्धा संस्थितो व्यापी सगुणो निर्गुणो ऽपि च
He abides in four forms, pervading all—endowed with qualities and also without qualities.
वासुदेवाभिधाना सा गुणातीता सुनिष्कला
That which is called Vāsudeva is beyond the guṇas, perfectly pure.
निहन्ति सकलं चान्ते वैष्णवी परमा तनुः
At the end, the supreme Vaiṣṇava form destroys all.
