चतुर्द्वारमनौपम्यमगम्यं देवविद्विषाम्
It has four gates, is incomparable, and inaccessible to those who hate the gods.
नानागीतविधानज्ञैर्देवानामपि दुर्लभैः
It is filled with those skilled in various forms of song, rare even among the gods.
प्रभूतचन्द्रवदनैर्नूपुरारावसंयुतैः
There are many with faces like the moon, adorned with the sound of anklets.
अशेषविभवोपेतैर्भूषितैस्तनुमध्यमैः
They are endowed with all kinds of wealth, adorned, and slender-waisted.
संलापालापकुशलैर्दिव्याभरणभूषैतैः
They are skilled in conversation and speech, adorned with divine ornaments.
नानावर्णविचित्राङ्गैर्नानाभोगरतिप्रियैः
Their bodies are wondrous with various colors, fond of diverse enjoyments and pleasures.
असंख्येयगुणं शुद्धमागम्यं त्रिदशैरपि
It possesses countless pure qualities, unattainable even by the gods.
तस्य मध्ये ऽतितेजस्कमुच्चप्राकारतोरणम्
In its midst stands a gateway of surpassing brilliance, with high ramparts.
शेते ऽशेषजगत्सूतिः शेषाहिशयने हरिः
Hari, the source of all worlds, lies upon the serpent Śeṣa.
स्वात्मानन्दामृतं पीत्वा परं तत् तमसः परम्
Drinking the nectar of his own bliss, he is supreme, beyond darkness.
क्षीरोदकन्यया नित्यं गृहीतचरणद्वयः
With both feet held by the daughter of the Ocean of Milk, always.
समास्ते तन्मना नित्यं पीत्वा नारायणामृतम्
She remains there, her mind fixed on him, ever drinking the nectar of Nārāyaṇa.
वैकुण्ठं नाम तत् स्थानं त्रिदशैरपि वन्दितम्
That place is called Vaikuṇṭha, revered even by the gods.
एतावच्छक्यते वक्तुं नारायणपुरं हि तत्
Only this much can be spoken; that is truly the city of Nārāyaṇa.
शेते नारायणः श्रीमान् मायया मोहयञ्जगत्
Nārāyaṇa, resplendent, lies there, deluding the world by his māyā.
तमेवाभ्येति कल्पान्ते स एव परमा गतिः
At the end of the age, all return to him; he alone is the supreme goal.
क्षीरार्णवं समाश्रित्य द्वीपः पुष्करसंवृतः
Relying on the Ocean of Milk is an island encircled by a lotus.
तावदेव च विस्तीर्णः सर्वतः परिमण्डलः
It is vast to that extent, perfectly round on all sides.
एक एव महासानुः संनिवेशाद् द्विधा कृतः
There is one great mountain, divided into two by its arrangement.
महावीतं स्मृतं वर्षं धातकीखण्डमेव च
The region called Mahāvīta and the land of Dhātakī are known there.
तस्मिन् द्वीपे महावृक्षो न्यग्रोधो ऽमरपूजितः
On that island stands a great nyagrodha tree, worshipped by the immortals.
तत्रैव मुनिशार्दूलाः शिवनारायणालयः
There, O best of sages, is the abode of Śiva and Nārāyaṇa.
गन्धर्वैः किन्नरैर्यक्षैरीश्वरः कृष्णपिङ्गलः
The lord, dark and tawny, is honored by Gandharvas, Kinnaras, and Yakṣas.
निरामया विशोकाश्च रागद्वेषविवर्जिताः
They are free from disease and sorrow, devoid of attachment and aversion.
न वर्णाश्रमधर्माश्च न नद्यो न च पर्वताः
There are no duties of caste or stage of life, no rivers, and no mountains.
स्वादूदकसमुद्रस्तु समन्ताद् द्विजसत्तमाः
All around, O best of twice-born, is an ocean of sweet water.
काञ्चनी द्विगुणा भूमिः सर्वा चैव शिलोपमा
The golden land is twice as wide, and entirely resembles a slab of stone.
प्रकाशश्चाप्रकाशश्च लोकालोकः स उच्यते
That which is both luminous and non-luminous is called Lokāloka.
तावानेव च विस्तारो लोकालोको महागिरिः
Such indeed is the extent of Lokāloka, the great mountain.
तमश्चाण्डकटाहेन समन्तात् परिवेष्टितम्
And darkness, like a fierce bowl, surrounds it on all sides.
