यथोक्तकारिणः सर्वे सर्वे भूतहिते रताः
All of them act as previously described, all devoted to the welfare of beings.
तेषां च ब्रह्मसायुज्यं सारूप्यं च सलोकता
For them there is union with Brahma, resemblance, and sharing the same world.
क्रौञ्चद्वीपस्ततो विप्रा वेष्टयित्वा घृतोदधिम्
O sages, beyond that is the island of Krauncha, encircled by the ocean of clarified butter.
नाम्ना च सप्तमः प्रोक्तः पर्वतो दुन्दुभिस्वनः
There, the seventh mountain is known as Dundubhisvana.
ख्यातिश्च पुण्डरीकाच नद्यः प्राधान्यतः स्मृताः
The principal rivers there are called Khyati and Pundarika.
ब्राह्मणाः क्षत्रिया वैश्याः शूद्राश्चैव द्विजोत्तमाः
O best of twice-born, Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras dwell there.
व्रतोपवासैर्विविधैर्हेमैः स्वाध्यायतर्पणैः
Through various vows, fasts, offerings of gold, and recitations for satisfaction,
सलोकता च सामीप्यं जायते तत्प्रसादतः
By his grace, they attain residence in the same world and nearness.
शाकद्वीपः स्थितो विप्रा आवेष्ट्य दधिसागरम्
O sages, beyond that lies the island of Shaka, surrounded by the ocean of curds.
आम्बिकेयस्तथा रम्यः केशरी चेति पर्वताः
There, the delightful mountains are Ambikeya and Keshari.
इक्षुका धेनुका चैव गभस्तिश्चेति निम्नगाः
The main rivers are Ikshuka, Dhenuka, and Gabhasti.
अनामया ह्यशोकाश्च रागद्वेषविवर्जिताः
They are free from disease and sorrow, devoid of passion and hatred.
ब्राह्मणाः क्षत्रिया वैश्याः शूद्राश्चात्र क्रमेण तु
Here, Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras exist in order.
व्रतोपवासैर्विविधैर्देवदेवं दिवाकरम्
Through various vows and fasts, they worship the god of gods, the sun.
सलोकता च विप्रेन्द्रा जायते तत्प्रसादतः
O foremost of Brahmins, by his grace, they attain residence in the same world.
श्वेतद्वीपश्च तन्मध्ये नारायणपरायणाः
In the midst of that is the island of Shveta, devoted to Narayana.
श्वेतास्तत्र नरा नित्यं जायन्ते विष्णुतत्पराः
There, white men are always born, wholly devoted to Vishnu.
क्रोधलोभविनिर्मुक्ता मायामात्सर्यवर्जिताः
They are free from anger and greed, devoid of illusion and envy.
नारायणपराः सर्वे नारायणपरायणाः
All are devoted to Narayana, wholly dedicated to Narayana.
केचिज्जपन्ति तप्यन्ति केचिद् विज्ञानिनो ऽपरे
Some recite, some practice austerities, and others are wise.
ध्यायन्ति तत् परं व्योम वासुदेवं परं पदम्
They meditate upon that supreme sky, upon Vāsudeva, the highest abode.
पश्यन्ति परमं ब्रह्म विष्णवाख्यं तमसः परं
They behold the supreme Brahman, known as Viṣṇu, who is beyond darkness.
सुपीतवाससः सर्वे श्रीवत्साङ्कितवक्षसः
All are clad in bright yellow garments, with chests marked by the Śrīvatsa.
स्वयोगोद्भूतकिरणा महागरुडवाहनाः
Their rays arise from their own yoga, and they ride upon the great Garuḍa.
वसन्ति तत्र पुरुषा विष्णोरन्तरचारिणः
There dwell those beings who move within Viṣṇu himself.
नारायणं नाम पुरं व्यासाद्यैरुपशोभितम्
There is a city named Nārāyaṇa, adorned by Vyāsa and others.
हर्म्यप्राकारसंयुक्तमट्टालकसमाकुलम्
It is furnished with mansions and ramparts, crowded with lofty towers.
शुभ्रास्तरणसंयुक्तं विचित्रैः समलङ्कृतम्
It is adorned with pure bedding and decorated with various ornaments.
सरोभिः सर्वतो युक्तं वीणावेणुनिनादितम्
It is surrounded on all sides by lakes, resounding with the music of vīṇās and flutes.
वीथीभिः सर्वतो युक्तं सोपानै रत्नभूषितैः
It is encircled on all sides by streets, with stairways adorned with jewels.
