नाम्ना सुद्धवती पुण्या सर्वकामर्धिसंयुता
There is a holy city named Suddhavatī, endowed with all desired enjoyments.
तीर्थयात्रापरी नित्यं ये च लोके ऽधमर्षिणः
Those who constantly undertake pilgrimages and are patient in this world reach it.
नाम्ना गन्धवती पुण्या तत्रास्ते ऽसौ प्रभञ्जनः
There is a holy city named Gandhavatī, where Prabhañjana resides.
प्राणायामपरामर्त्यास्थानन्तद्यान्ति शाश्वतम्
Those who have mastered prāṇāyāma attain that eternal, immortal abode.
नाम्ना कान्तिमती शुभ्रा तत्र सोमो विराजते
There is a radiant city named Kāntimatī, where Soma shines.
तेषां तद् रचितं स्थानं नानाभोगसमन्वितम्
That place, created for them, is endowed with various enjoyments.
नाम्ना यशोवती पुण्या सर्वेषां सुदुरासदा
There is a holy city named Yaśovatī, exceedingly difficult for all to approach.
घमेश्वरस्य विपुलं तत्रास्ते स गणैर्वृतः
There dwells the mighty Lord of Hosts, surrounded by his attendants.
निवासः कल्पितः पूर्वं देवदेवेन शूलिना
A dwelling was established in ancient times by the god Shiva, the wielder of the trident.
समन्ताद् ब्रह्मणः पुर्यां गङ्गा पतति वै दिवः
All around the city of Brahma, the Ganga descends from the heavens.
सीता चालकनन्दा च सुचक्षुर्भद्रनामिका
Sita, Alakananda, Suchakshur, and Bhadranami are the names.
ततश्च पूर्ववर्षेण भद्राश्वेनैति चार्णवम्
Then, from the eastern region, Bhadrashva reaches the ocean.
प्रयाति सागरं भित्त्वा सप्तभेदा द्विजोत्तमाः
Piercing the sea, it proceeds in seven divisions, O best of twice-born.
पश्चिमं केतुमालाख्यं वर्षं गत्वैति चार्णवम्
Having gone to the western region called Ketumala, it reaches the ocean.
अतीत्य चोत्तराम्भोधिं समभ्येति महर्षयः
Crossing the northern ocean, it approaches, O great sages.
तयोर्मध्यगतो मेरुः कर्णिकाकारसंस्थितः
In the midst of these two stands Meru, shaped like the central bud.
पत्राणि लोकपद्मस्य मर्यादाशैलबाह्यतः
The petals of the world-lotus extend beyond the boundary mountains.
दक्षिणोत्तरमायामावानीलनिषधायतौ
On the southern and northern sides are the mountains called Nila and Nishadha.
अशीतियोजनायामावर्णवान्तर्व्यवस्थितौ
Eighty yojanas in length, they are situated within the intervening region.
मेरोः पश्चिमदिग्भागे यथापूर्वौ तथा स्थितौ
On the western side of Meru, they are positioned just as in the east.
पूर्वपश्चायतावेतौ अर्णवान्तर्व्यवस्थितौ
These two, extending east and west, are situated within the intervening ocean.
जठराद्याः स्थिता मेरोश्चतुर्दिक्षु महर्षयः
Jaṭhara and others are stationed on the four sides of Meru, O great sages.
स्त्रियश्चोत्पलपत्राभा जीवन्ति च वर्षायुतम्
Women, radiant like lotus petals, live for a hundred thousand years.
दश वर्षसहस्त्राणि जीवन्ते आम्रभोजनाः
Those who eat mangoes live for ten thousand years.
जीवन्ति चैव सत्त्वस्था न्यग्रोधफलभोजनाः
Those who are established in virtue and eat banyan fruit also live long.
जीवन्ति पुरुषा नार्यो देवलोकस्थिता इव
Men and women live as if dwelling in the realm of the gods.
जीवन्ति कुरुवर्षे तु श्यामाङ्गाः क्षीरभोजनाः
In the Kuru region, people with dark complexions live, subsisting on milk.
चन्द्रद्वीपे महादेवं यजन्ति सततं शिवम्
On Candradvīpa, they constantly worship the great god Śiva.
दशवर्षहस्त्राणि जीवन्ति प्लक्षभोजनाः
Those who eat the fruit of the plakṣa tree live for ten thousand years.
ध्याने मनः समाधाय सादरं भक्तिसंयुताः
With minds absorbed in meditation, they are devoted and filled with reverence.
