त्रैलोक्यं कथितं सद्भिर्लोकानां मुनिपुङ्गवाः
O eminent sages, the three worlds of beings have been described by the virtuous.
भवत्यस्मात् जगत् कृत्स्नं सदेवासुरमानुषम्
From this arises the entire universe, with gods, asuras, and humans.
द्युतिर्द्युतिमतां कृत्स्नं यत्तेजः सार्वलौकिकम्
The radiance of all the radiant ones, all your power, is universal.
सूर्य एव त्रिलोकस्य मूलं परमदैवतम्
The Sun alone is the root and supreme deity of the three worlds.
निर्वहन्ति पदं तस्य तदंशा विष्णुमूर्तयः
The portions of Viṣṇu, in the form of the gods, carry out his course.
श्छन्दोमयं ब्रह्ममयं पुराणम्
It is composed of metres, of Brahman, and is ancient.
गन्धर्वैरप्सरोभिश्च ग्रामणीसर्पराक्षसैः
By Gandharvas, Apsarases, chiefs of serpents, and Rakshasas,
विवस्वानथ पूषा च पर्जन्यश्चांशुरेव च
And also by Vivasvat, Pūṣan, Parjanya, and Aṃśu,
आप्यायन्ति वै भानुं वसन्तादिषु वै क्रमात्
They nourish the Sun, indeed, in order, during the seasons beginning with spring.
भरद्वाजो गौतमश्च कश्यपः क्रतुरेव च
Bharadvāja, Gautama, Kaśyapa, and also Kratu,
स्तुवन्ति देवं विविधैश्छन्दोभिस्ते यथाक्रमम्
Praise the god with various meters, each in due order.
रथस्वनो ऽथ वरुणः सुषेणः सेनजित् तथा
Rathasvana, then Varuṇa, Suṣeṇa, and likewise Senajit,
ग्रामण्यो देवदेवस्य कुर्वते ऽभीशुसंग्रहम्
The chiefs gather the reins of the Lord of gods.
सर्पो व्याघ्रस्तथापश्च वातो विद्युद् दिवाकरः
A serpent, a tiger, a horse, the wind, lightning, and the sun,
राक्षसप्रवरा ह्येते प्रयान्ति पुरतः क्रमात्
These foremost Rakshasas proceed ahead in due order.
एलापत्रः शङ्खपालस्तथैरावतसंज्ञितः
Elāpatra, Śaṅkhapāla, and one named Airāvata,
कम्बलाश्वतरश्चैव वहन्त्येनं यथाक्रमम्
Kambala and Aśvatara, indeed, carry him in due order.
उग्रसेनो वसुरुचिरर्वावसुरथापरः
Ugrasena, Vasuruci, Arvāva, and another named Asuratha,
गायन्ति विविधैर्गानैर्भानुं षड्जादिभिः क्रमात्
Sing to Bhānu with various songs, in sequence from Ṣaḍja and so on.
मेनका सहजन्या च प्रम्लोचा च द्विजोत्तमाः
Menakā, Sahajanyā, and Pramlocā, O best of twice-born,
अन्या च पूर्वचित्तिः स्यादन्या चैव तिलोत्तमा
And another is Pūrvacitti, and another indeed is Tilottamā.
तोषयन्ति महादेवं भानुमात्मानमव्ययम्
They please the great god, the Sun, the imperishable Self.
सूर्यमाप्याययन्त्येते तेजसा तेजसां निधिम्
These nourish the Sun, the repository of radiance, with their own brilliance.
गन्धर्वाप्सरसश्चैनं नृत्यगेयैरुपासते
The Gandharvas and Apsarases attend him with dance and song.
सर्पा वहन्ति देवेशं यातुधानाः प्रयान्ति च
The serpents carry the Lord of the gods, and the demons also proceed.
भूतानामशुभं कर्म व्यपोहन्तीह कीर्तिताः
They are said here to remove the inauspicious deeds of beings.
विमाने च स्थितो नित्यं कामगे वातरंहसि
Always abiding in the celestial chariot, he moves at will with the speed of the wind.
गोपयन्तीह भूतानि सर्वाणीहायुगक्षयात्
Here, she protects all beings until the end of the age.
यथायोगं यथासत्त्वं स एष तपति प्रभुः
As is proper, according to their nature, this Lord shines forth.
पितृदेवमनुष्यादीन् स सदाप्यायेद् रविः
The Sun always nourishes the ancestors, gods, humans, and others.
