धातिकिश्चैव द्वावेतौ पुत्रौ पुत्रवतां वरौ
Dhāti and Kiśa—these two, the best among sons, were also his sons.
नाम्ना तु धातकेश्चापि धातकीखण्डमुच्यते
By name, the region of Dhātaki is also called Dhātakīkhaṇḍa.
कुसुमोत्तरो ऽथ मोदाकिः सप्तमः स्यान्महाद्रुमः
Kusumottara and then Modāki—the seventh is Mahādruma.
कुमारस्य तु कौमारं तृतीयं सुकुमारकम्
Of Kumāra, the third son is called Sukumāra.

He divided them into nine parts and gave them accordingly.
हेमकूटं ततो वर्षं ददौ किंपुरुषाय तु
Then he gave the land of Hemakūṭa to Kimpuruṣa.
इलावृताय प्रददौ मेरुमध्यमिलावृतम्
He gave Ilāvṛta, the central region of Meru, to Ilāvṛta.
श्वेतं यदुत्तरं वर्षं पित्रा दत्तं हिरण्वते
The northern land called Śveta was given by the father to Hiraṇvat.
गन्धमादनवर्षं तु केतुमालाय दत्तवान्
The land of Gandhamādana was given to Ketumāla.
संसारकष्टतां ज्ञात्वा तपस्तेपे वनं गतः
Realizing the hardship of worldly existence, he went to the forest and performed austerities.
तस्यर्षभो ऽभवत् पुत्रो मरुदेव्यां महाद्युतिः
To him, a son named Ṛṣabha, of great brilliance, was born from Marudevī.
वानप्रस्थाश्रमं गत्वा तपस्तेपे यथाविधि
Having gone to the hermitage of forest-dwellers, he performed austerities according to the prescribed rule.
ज्ञानयोगरतो भूत्वा महापाशुपतो ऽभवत्
Engaged in the yoga of knowledge, he became a great devotee of Pashupati.
सुमतेस्तैजसस्तस्मादिन्द्रिद्युम्नो व्यजायत
From Sumati, who was radiant, was born Indradyumna.
प्रतिहर्तेति विख्यात उत्पन्नस्तस्य चात्मजः
His son, renowned as Pratiharta, was born.
पृथुस्ततस्ततो रक्तो रक्तस्यापि गयः सुतः
From him came Prithu; then from Prithu, Rakta; and from Rakta, Gaya was born as his son.
तस्य पुत्रो महावीर्यो धीमांस्तस्मादजायत
His son, endowed with great strength and intelligence, was born from him.
त्वष्टा त्वष्टुश्च विरजो रजस्तस्याप्यभूत् सुतः
Tvashta was the son of Tvashtu, and Viraja was born as the son of Rajas.
तेषां प्रधानो बलवान् विश्वज्योतिरिति स्मृतः
Among them, the chief and most powerful was known as Vishvajyotis.
असूत पुत्रं धर्मज्ञं महाबाहुमरिन्दमम्
