ततो नैव चरेत् पापं कायेन मनसा गिरा
After that, one does not commit sin by body, mind, or speech.
अविमुक्ताश्रयं ज्ञानं न कश्चिद् वेत्ति तत्त्वतः
No one truly knows the knowledge resting in Avimukta.
देव्यै देवेन कथितं सर्वपापविनाशनम्
This, told by the god to the goddess, destroys all sins.
यथेश्वराणां गिरिशः स्थानानां चैतदुत्तमम्
Just as Girisha is supreme among lords, so is this place among all sites.
ते विन्दन्ति परं क्षेत्रमविमुक्तं शिवालयम्
They attain the supreme field, Avimukta, the abode of Shiva.
न तेषां वेदितुं शक्यं स्थानं तत् परमेष्ठिनः
The place of that Supreme Lord cannot be known by them.
तेषां विनश्यति क्षिप्रमिहामुत्र च पातकम्
For them, sin is quickly destroyed, both here and hereafter.
नाशयेत् तानि सर्वाणि देवः कालतनुः शिवः
The god Śiva, who is time embodied, destroys all those sins.
मृतानां च पुनर्जनम् न भूयो भवसागरे
For the dead, there is no rebirth again in the ocean of existence.
योगी वाप्यथवायोगी पापी वा पुण्यकृत्तमः
Whether a yogi or not, whether sinful or most virtuous—
मतिरुत्क्रमणीया स्यादविमुक्तगतिं प्रति
The mind should depart towards the path of liberation.
सहैव शिष्यप्रवरैर्वाराणस्यां चचार ह
Along with his foremost disciples, he dwelt in Vārāṇasī.
जगाम विपुलं लिङ्गमोङ्कारं मुक्तिदायकम्
He went to the great liṅga of Oṃkāra, bestower of liberation.
प्रोवाच तस्य माहात्म्यं मुनीनां भावितात्मनाम्
He spoke of its greatness to the sages of purified minds.
अस्य स्मरणमात्रेण मुच्यते सर्वपातकैः
By merely remembering this, one is freed from all sins.
सेवितं सूरिभिर्नित्यं वाराणस्यां विमोक्षदम्
Constantly worshipped by the wise in Vārāṇasī, it grants liberation.
रमते भगवान् रुद्रो जन्तूनामपवर्गदः
The blessed Rudra delights there, granting release to beings.
तदेतद् विमलं लिङ्गमोङ्कारे समवस्थितम्
This pure liṅga abides in Oṃkāra.
प्रतिष्ठा च निवृत्तिश्च पञ्चार्थं लिङ्गमैश्वरम्
The liṅga of the Lord is said to be fivefold: foundation and dissolution.
ओङ्कारबोधकं लिङ्गं पञ्चायतनमुच्यते
The liṅga that reveals Oṃkāra is called the fivefold abode.
देहान्ते तत्परं ज्योतिरानन्दं विशते बुधः
At the end of the body, the wise one enters that supreme, blissful light.
उपास्य देवमीशानं प्राप्तवन्तः परं पदम्
Having worshipped the god Īśāna, they attained the supreme state.
गोचर्ममात्रं विप्रेन्द्रा ओङ्कारेश्वरमुत्तमम्
O best of Brāhmins, Oṃkāreśvara, the highest Lord, is the size of a cowhide.
विश्वेश्वरं तथोङ्कारं कपर्देश्वरमेव च
Likewise, Viśveśvara, Oṃkāra, and Kapardeśvara.
न कश्चिदिह जानाति विना शंभोरनुग्रहात्
No one here knows, except by the grace of Śaṃbhu.
कृत्तिवासेश्वरं लिङ्गं द्रष्टुं देवस्य शूलिनः
To behold the liṅga of Kṛttivāsa, the Lord, the wielder of the trident—
कथयामास शिष्येभ्यो भगवान् ब्रह्मवित्तमः
The venerable sage, foremost knower of Brahman, spoke to his disciples.
ब्राह्मणान् हन्तुमायातो ये ऽत्र नित्यमुपासते
He came to slay the Brāhmaṇas—those who constantly worship here.
रक्षणार्थं द्विजश्रेष्ठा भक्तानां भक्तवत्सलः
For the protection of the devoted, O best of twice-born, He who cherishes His devotees—
वसस्तस्याकरोत् कृत्तिं कृत्तिवासेश्वरस्ततः
Kṛttivāsa, the Lord, then made a skin his garment.
