प्रार्थितो दैवतैः पूर्वं संजातो दैवकीसुतः
Previously prayed for by the gods, the son of Devakī was born.
नावयोर्विद्यते भेद एवं पश्यन्ति सूरयः
There is no difference between us; thus do the sages perceive.
ईश्वरे निश्चलां भक्तिमात्मन्यपि परं बलम्
Steadfast devotion to the Lord, and supreme strength in oneself—
आशिषं शिरसाहृङ्णाद् देवो ऽप्याह महेश्वरः
With bowed head, the god Maheśvara also uttered a blessing.
र् जगाम कैलासगिरिं गिरीशः
The Lord of Mountains went to Mount Kailāsa.
रराम भगवान् सोमः केशवेन महेश्वरः
The blessed Soma, Maheśvara, rejoiced with Keśava.
पूजयाञ्चक्रिरे कृष्णं देवदेवमथाच्युतम्
Then they worshipped Kṛṣṇa, the god of gods, the infallible one.
किरीटिनं शार्ङ्गपाणि श्रीवत्साङ्कितवक्षसम्
He who wears a crown, who holds the Śārṅga bow, whose chest is marked by the Śrīvatsa—
दधानमुरसा मालां वैजयन्तीमनुत्तमाम्
Bearing upon his chest the unrivaled garland Vaijayantī—
पद्माङ्घ्रिनयनं चारु सुस्मितं सुगतिप्रदम्
With lotus-like feet and eyes, charming, with a gentle smile, bestower of good fortune—
भ्राजमानः श्रीया कृष्णश्चचार गिरिकन्दरे
Radiant with splendor, Kṛṣṇa wandered in the mountain caves.
सिद्धा यक्षाश्च गन्धर्वास्तत्र तत्र जगन्मयम्
There, here and there, Siddhas, Yakṣas, and Gandharvas beheld the one who pervades the universe.
मुमुचुः पुष्पवर्षाणि तस्य मूर्ध्नि महात्मनः
They showered a rain of flowers upon the head of that great soul.
दृष्ट्वा चकमिरे कृष्णं स्त्रस्तवस्त्रविभूषणाः
Seeing Krishna, their garments and ornaments in disarray, they trembled.
संप्रेक्ष्य देवकीसूनुं सुन्दर्यः काममोहिताः
Beholding the son of Devaki, the beautiful women were overcome with desire.
संप्रेक्ष्य संस्थिताः काश्चित् पपुस्तद्वदनामृतम्
Some stood gazing, and drank the nectar of his mouth.
भूषयाञ्चक्रिरे कृष्णं कामिन्यो लोकभूषणम्
The passionate women adorned Krishna, the ornament of the world.
स्वात्मानं बूषयामासुः स्वात्मगैरपि माधवम्
They adorned themselves, and even Madhava, with their own ornaments.
चुचुम्बुर्वदनाम्भोजं हरेर्मुग्धमृगेक्षणाः
With innocent, deer-like eyes, they kissed Hari's lotus face.
प्रापयामासुर्लोकादिं मायया तस्य मोहिताः
Deluded by his illusion, they led him to the world of the gods.
बहूनि कृत्वा रूपाणि पूरयामास लीलया
He took on many forms and fulfilled their desires in sport.
रेमे नारायणः श्रीमान् मायया मोहयञ्जगत्
The glorious Narayana delighted, enchanting the world by his illusion.
बभूवुर्विह्वला भीता गोविन्दविरहे जनाः
The people became distressed and fearful in separation from Govinda.
कृष्णेन मार्गमाणस्तं हिमवन्तं ययौ गिरिम्
Krishna, searching for him, went to the mountain Himavat.
आजगामोपमन्युं तं पुरीं द्वारवतीं पुनः
He returned to the city of Dvaravati, to Upamanyu.
आजग्मुर्द्वारकां शुभ्रां भीषयन्तः सहस्त्रशः
Thousands arrived at radiant Dvaraka, causing fear.
हत्वा युद्धेन महता रक्षति स्म पुरीं शुभाम्
Having slain them in a great battle, he protected the splendid city.
दृष्ट्वा कैलासशिखरे कृष्णं द्वारवतीं गतः
Seeing Krishna on the summit of Kailasa, he went to Dvaravati.
प्रोचुर्नारायणो नाथः कुत्रास्ते भगवान् हरिः
They said: 'O Lord Narayana, where does the blessed Hari reside?'
रमते ऽद्य महायोगीं तं दृष्ट्वाहमिहागतः
'Today the great yogi delights; having seen him, I have come here.'
