बाढमित्यब्रवीद् वाक्यं तथा रामो ऽपि धर्मवित्
Rama, knower of righteousness, replied, 'So be it,' to those words.
ययौ वनं सपत्नीकः कृत्वा समयमात्मवान्
Self-controlled, he went to the forest with his wife, having made an agreement.
उवास तत्र मतिमान् लक्ष्मणेन सह प्रभुः
The wise lord stayed there together with Lakshmana.
परिव्राजकवेषेण सीतां हृत्वा ययौ पुरीम्
In the guise of an ascetic, he carried off Sita and went to his city.
दुः खशोकाभिसंतप्तौ बभूवतुररिन्दमौ
The two enemy-slayers became tormented by grief and sorrow.
वानराणामभूत् सख्यं रामस्याक्लिष्टकर्मणः
A friendship arose between Rama, whose deeds were pure, and the monkeys.
वायुपुत्रौ महातेजा रामस्यासीत् प्रियः सदा
The mighty Hanuman, son of the wind, was always dear to Rama.
आनयिष्यामि तां सीतामित्युक्त्वा विचचार ह
Saying, 'I will bring Sita back,' he set out searching.
जगाम रावणपुरीं लङ्कां सागरसंस्थिताम्
He went to Ravana's city, Lanka, situated in the ocean.
अपश्यदमलां सीतां राक्षसीभिः समावृताम्
He saw spotless Sita, surrounded by demonesses.
राममिन्दीवरश्यामं लक्ष्मणं चात्मसंस्थितम्
He gave her assurance about Rama, dark as a blue lotus, and Lakshmana, steadfast in himself.
असंशयाय प्रददावस्यै रामाङ्गुलीयकम्
For certainty, he gave her Rama's ring.
मेने समागतं रामं प्रीतिविस्फारितेक्षणा
Her eyes wide with joy, she believed Rama had come.
नयिष्ये त्वां महाबाहुरुक्त्वा रामं ययौ पुनः
Saying, 'The mighty-armed Rama will bring you,' he departed again.
तस्थौ रामेण पुरतो लक्ष्मणेन च पूजितः
He stood before Rama and Lakshmana, honored by them.
लक्ष्मणेन च युद्धाय बुद्धिं चक्रे हि रक्षसाम्
Lakshmana resolved upon battle with the demons.
सेतुं परमधर्मात्मा रावणं हतवान् प्रभुः
The supremely righteous lord built a bridge and slew Ravana.
आनयामास तां सीतां वायुपुत्रसहायवान्
With the help of the wind-god's son, he brought Sita back.
स्थापयामास लिङ्गस्थं पूजयामास राघवः
Rāghava established the liṅga and worshipped it.
प्रत्यक्षमेव भगवान् दत्तवान् वरमुत्तमम्
The Lord himself visibly granted the highest boon.
महापातकसंयुक्तास्तेषां पापं विनश्यतु
May the sin of those burdened with great transgressions be destroyed.
दर्शनादेव लिङ्गसल्य नाशं यान्ति न संशयः
By merely seeing the liṅga, all faults are destroyed—of this there is no doubt.
यावत् सेतुश्च तावच्च स्थास्याम्यत्र तिरोहितः
As long as the Setu remains, I shall stay here, concealed.
स्मरणादेव लिङ्गस्य दिनपापं प्रणश्यति
By merely remembering the liṅga, the sins of the day are destroyed.
सनन्दी सगणो रुद्रस्तत्रैवान्तरधीयत
There, Rudra with his attendants and Nandī vanished.
अभिषिक्तो महातेजा भरतेन महाबलः
The mighty one, endowed with great splendor, was anointed by Bharata.
यज्ञेन यज्ञहन्तारमश्वमेधेन शङ्करम्
By the Aśvamedha sacrifice, he worshipped Śaṅkara, the destroyer of sacrifice.
लवश्च सुमहाभागः सर्वतत्त्वार्थवित् सुधीः
Lava, greatly fortunate, wise, and knower of all truths, was born.
नलस्तु निषधस्याभून्नभस्तमादजायत
Nala became king of Niṣadha; Nabhas was born from him.
तस्य पुत्रो ऽभवद् वीरो देवानीकः प्रतापवान्
His son was the heroic and powerful Devānīka.
