भवानीपादयुगले नारायणपदाम्बुजे
At the twin feet of Bhavānī, at the lotus feet of Nārāyaṇa.
न पश्यन्ति जगत्सूतिं तद्भुतमिवाभवत्
They do not see the source of the world; it became as if a wonder.
मोहितो गिरिजां देवीमाहर्तुं गिरिमाययौ
Deluded, he went to the mountain to seize the goddess Girijā.
तत्रैवाविरभूद् दैत्यैर्युद्धाय पुरुषोत्तमः
There, the Supreme Person appeared, ready to battle the demons.
स कालरुद्रो ऽभिजगाम देवः
That god, Kālarudra, approached.
जगाम देवो ऽपि सहस्त्रबाहुः
The god with a thousand arms also arrived.
स्त्रिलोकदृष्टिर्भगवानिवार्कः
The blessed one, whose form is seen by women throughout the worlds, shone like the sun.
पपात देवोपरि पुष्पवृष्टिः
A shower of flowers fell upon the god.
र् गणैरशेषैरमपप्रधानैः
With all the hosts of the Gaṇas, chief among them, present.
विमानमारुह्य विहीनसत्त्वः
Mounting his celestial vehicle, devoid of vitality.
व्याजहार महादेवं भैरवं भूतिभूषणम्
He addressed Mahādeva, Bhairava, adorned with ashes.
त्वामृते भगवान् शक्तो हन्ता नान्यो ऽस्य विद्यते
Except for you, O Lord, no one else is able to slay him.
स्तूयते विविधैर्मन्त्रर्वेदविद्भिर्विचक्षणैः
He is praised with various mantras by wise Veda-knowers.
निरीक्ष्य विष्णुं हनने दैत्यन्द्रस्य मतिं दधौ
Seeing Viṣṇu, he resolved to kill the lord of the demons.
स्तुवन्ति भैरवं देवमन्तरिक्षचरा जनाः
Those who move in the sky praise the god Bhairava.
त्वमग्निः सर्वभूतानामन्तश्चरसि नित्यशः
You are the fire that eternally dwells within all beings.
त्वं ब्रह्मा त्वं महादेवस्त्वं धाम परमं पदम्
You are Brahmā, you are Mahādeva, you are the supreme abode, the highest state.
महाविभूतिर्देवेशो जयाशेषजगत्पते
Greatly powerful, lord of the gods, victorious ruler of all worlds.
त्रिशूलाग्रेषु विन्यस्य प्रननर्त सतां गतिः
Placing himself at the tips of the trident, he danced—the refuge of the virtuous.
प्रणेमुरीश्वरं देवं भैरवं भवमोचकम्
They bowed to the lord, the god Bhairava, liberator from existence.
अन्तरिक्षे ऽप्सरः सङ्घा नृत्यन्तिस्म मनोरमाः
In the sky, delightful hosts of apsarases were dancing.
उत्पन्नाखिलविज्ञानस्तुष्टाव परमेश्वरम्
One endowed with all knowledge arose and praised the Supreme Lord.
कालं कविं योगवियोगहेतुम्
Time, the sage, the cause of union and separation in yoga—
भवन्तमेकं प्रणमामि रुद्रम्
I bow to you, Rudra, the one and only.
वाय्वादिभेदैरखिलात्मरूप
You, whose form is the self of all, manifesting as the divisions of wind and others—
त्वमन्तको योगिगणाभिजुष्टः
You are Antaka, honored by hosts of yogis.
भवन्तमाहुः शिवमेव केचित्
Some call you indeed Shiva.
स्वयं प्रभो ऽशेषविशेषहीनः
O Lord, you are yourself devoid of all distinctions.
नीलग्रीवः स्तूयसे वेदविद्भिः
O blue-throated one, you are praised by those who know the Vedas.
सदाशिवस्त्वं परमेश्वरो ऽसि
You are Sadashiva, you are the Supreme Lord.
