नीतं केशवमाहात्म्याल्लीलयैव रणाजिरे
By the greatness of Keśava, and by his play alone, the battle was brought to an end.
पराङ्मुखोरणात् तस्मात् पलायत महाजवः
From that battle, the swift one turned his face and fled.
हिताय लोके भक्तानामाजगामाथ मन्दरम्
Then, for the good of the world and of his devotees, he came to Mandara.
समागम्योपतस्थुस्तं भानुमन्तमिव द्विजाः
The twice-born, gathering together, approached him as if he were the radiant sun.
ददर्श नन्दिनं देवं भैरवं केशवं शिवः
Śiva beheld Nandī, Bhairava, and Keśava, the divine ones.
आघ्राय मूर्धनीशानः केशवं परिषस्वजे
The Lord, having smelled Keśava’s head, embraced him.
ननाम शिरसा तस्य पादयोरीश्वरस्य सा
She bowed her head to the feet of that Lord.
भैरवो विष्णुमाहात्म्यं प्रणतः पार्श्वगो ऽवदत्
Bhairava, standing at his side, bowed and spoke of Viṣṇu’s greatness.
समास्ते भगवानीशो देव्या सह वरासने
The blessed Lord sat together with the goddess on the excellent seat.
आजग्मुर्मन्दरं द्रुष्टं देवदेवं त्रिलोचनम्
They came to Mandara and saw the god of gods, the three-eyed one.
समागतं दैत्यसैन्यमीश्दर्शनवाञ्छया
The army of the Daityas assembled, desiring a vision of the Lord.
प्रणेमुरादराद् देव्यो गायन्ति स्मातिलालसाः
The goddesses, eager and devoted, bowed and sang.
देवासनगतं देवं नारायणमनामयम्
They saw Nārāyaṇa, the flawless god, seated on the divine throne.
प्रणम्य देवमीशानं पृष्टवत्यो वराङ्गनाः
Having bowed to the Lord Īśāna, the noble women questioned him.
को ऽन्वयं भ्ति वपुषा पङ्कजायतलोचनः
Who is this, radiant in form, with eyes like lotus petals?
व्याजहार महायोगी भूताधिपतिरव्ययः
The great yogi, the imperishable lord of beings, spoke.
विभज्य संस्थितो देवः स्वात्मानं बहुधेश्वरः
The Lord, established, divided himself in many ways.
एको ऽयं वेद विश्वात्मा भवानी विष्णुरेव च
This one alone is known—the soul of the universe, Bhavānī, and also Viṣṇu.
मामेव केशवं देवमाहुर्देवीमथाम्बिकाम्
They call me Keśava, the god, and the goddess as Ambikā.
कर्ता कारयिता विष्णुर्भुक्तिमुक्तिफलप्रदः
Viṣṇu is the creator and the cause, the giver of the fruits of enjoyment and liberation.
स्त्रष्टा पाता वासुदेवो विश्वात्मा विश्वतोमुखः
Vāsudeva is the creator and protector, the soul of the universe, facing all directions.
तारकः पुरुषो ह्यात्मा केवलं परमं पदम्
He is the deliverer, the person, the self, the one supreme state.
सान्ता सत्या सदानन्दा परं पदमिति श्रुतिः
Peaceful, true, ever-blissful—this, the Upaniṣad calls the supreme state.
एषैव सर्वभूतानां गतीनामुत्तमा गतिः
This alone is the highest goal among all the paths of beings.
पश्याम्यशेषमेवेदं यस्तद् वेद स मुच्यते
I see all this as one; whoever knows this is liberated.
एकमेव विजानीध्वं ततो यास्यथ निर्वृतिम्
Know only the One; then you will attain bliss.
ये भिन्नदृष्ट्यापीशानं पूजयन्तो न मे प्रियाः
Those who worship the Lord with divided vision are not dear to me.
पच्यमाना न मुच्यन्ते कल्पकोटिशतैरपि
Though they are cooked (in suffering), they are not freed, even in hundreds of millions of aeons.
यथावदिह विज्ञाय ध्येयः सर्वापदि प्रभुः
Having understood properly here, the Lord should be meditated upon in every difficulty.
नेमुर्नारायणं देवं देवीं च हिमशैलजाम्
They do not bow to Nārāyaṇa, the god, nor to the goddess, daughter of the Himalaya.
