Devoted to detachment and sovereignty, beyond passion, stainless,
O infinite Lord, you are worthy to protect; for the Supreme Lord is indeed the protector.
Then the lotus-eyed one, awakened from sleep, clad in yellow garments, the enemy of the asuras, spoke.
Having arrived in this place, what task do you wish me to accomplish for you?
O Lord, a demon is oppressing all the gods together with the sages.
You ought to slay him; you are the protector of all, O embodiment of the universe.
For the destruction of that foremost demon, he himself created a Man.
To him, who held conch, discus, and mace in his hands, the one with Garuḍa as his banner spoke.
By your might, you should quickly come to this place.
That great, unmanifest Man went to the great city of the demon.
The god, mounting Garuḍa, appeared like another great Meru mountain.
Then, out of fear of the lord of the demons, they reported that sound.
Emitting a terrifying sound, we recognize him, O destroyer of immortals.
Then, with his sons led by Prahlāda, armed and armored, he went forth.
He saw a Man, mountain-like in form, another Nārāyaṇa.
This is that god, the protector of the gods, Nārāyaṇa, our enemy.
And the Lord effortlessly destroyed all of them completely.
Prahlāda, Anuhrāda, Saṃhrāda, and Hrāda as well—
Saṃhrāda had sons named Kaumāra and Āgneya, and Hrāda likewise.
None of them were able to harm Viṣṇu, Vāsudeva, in any way.
Seizing him by the feet with his hands, he hurled him and roared.
The mighty one struck him forcefully on the chest with his foot.
He went and reported everything that had happened in full.
Assuming half the form of a man and half the form of a lion,
He suddenly appeared, bewildering the foremost of the Daityas.
Nārāyaṇa, the infinite, shone forth like the sun at midday.
That Asura sent Narasiṃha forth for the act of killing.
He was swiftly destroyed, along with all his followers, by Maya.
He fought with all his might, but was defeated by Narasiṃha.
Meditating on the weapon of Paśupati, he released it and roared.
