विवस्वान् सविता पूषा ह्यंशुमान् विष्णुरेव च
Vivasvān, Savitṛ, Pūṣā, Aṃśumān, and also Viṣṇu.
वैवस्वते ऽन्तरे प्रोक्ता आदित्याश्चादितेः सुताः
In the period of Vaivasvata, the Ādityas, sons of Aditi, are mentioned.
हिरण्यकशिपुं ज्येष्ठं हिरण्याक्षं तथापरम्

ववन्दे चरणौ मूर्ध्ना कृताञ्जलिरभाषत

व्यापी सर्वामरवपुर्महायोगी सनातनः
He, the all-pervading, eternal great yogi, whose form is the essence of all the gods,
वैराग्यैश्वर्यनिरतो रागातीतो निरञ्जनः
Devoted to detachment and sovereignty, beyond passion, stainless,
त्रातुमर्हस्यनन्तेश त्राता हि परमेश्वरः
O infinite Lord, you are worthy to protect; for the Supreme Lord is indeed the protector.
प्रोवाचोन्निद्रपद्माक्षः पीतवासासुरद्विषः
Then the lotus-eyed one, awakened from sleep, clad in yellow garments, the enemy of the asuras, spoke.
इमं देशमनुप्राप्ताः किं वा कार्यं करोमि वः
Having arrived in this place, what task do you wish me to accomplish for you?
बाधते भगवन् दैत्यो देवान् सर्वान् सहर्षिभिः
O Lord, a demon is oppressing all the gods together with the sages.
हन्तुमर्हसि सर्वेषां त्वं त्रातासि जगन्मय
You ought to slay him; you are the protector of all, O embodiment of the universe.
वधाय दैत्यमुख्यस्य सो ऽसृजत् पुरुषं स्वयम्
For the destruction of that foremost demon, he himself created a Man.
शङ्खचक्रगदापाणिं तं प्राह गरुडध्वजः
To him, who held conch, discus, and mace in his hands, the one with Garuḍa as his banner spoke.
इमं देशं समागन्तुं क्षिप्रमर्हसि पौरुषात्
By your might, you should quickly come to this place.
महापुरुषमव्यक्तं ययौ दैत्यमहापुरम्
That great, unmanifest Man went to the great city of the demon.
आरुह्य गरुडं देवो महामेरुरिवापरः
The god, mounting Garuḍa, appeared like another great Meru mountain.
समाचचक्षिरे नादं तदा दैत्यपतेर्भयात्
Then, out of fear of the lord of the demons, they reported that sound.
विमुञ्चन् भैरवं नादं तं जानीमो ऽमरार्दन
Emitting a terrifying sound, we recognize him, O destroyer of immortals.
संनद्धैः सायुधैः पुत्रैः प्रह्रादाद्यैस्तदा ययौ
Then, with his sons led by Prahlāda, armed and armored, he went forth.
पुरुषं पर्वताकारं नारायणमिवापरम्
He saw a Man, mountain-like in form, another Nārāyaṇa.
अयं स देवो देवानां गोप्ता नारायणो रिपुः
This is that god, the protector of the gods, Nārāyaṇa, our enemy.
तानि चाशेषतो देवो नाशयामास लीलया
And the Lord effortlessly destroyed all of them completely.
प्रह्रादश्चाप्यनुह्रादः संह्रादो ह्राद एव च
Prahlāda, Anuhrāda, Saṃhrāda, and Hrāda as well—
संह्रादश्चापि कौमारमाग्नेयं ह्राद एव च
Saṃhrāda had sons named Kaumāra and Āgneya, and Hrāda likewise.
न शेकुर्बाधितुं विष्णुं वासुदेवं यथा तथा
None of them were able to harm Viṣṇu, Vāsudeva, in any way.
