द्वे चैवाङ्गिरसे तद्वत् तासां वक्ष्ये ऽथ निस्तरम्
Likewise, there are two daughters of Angiras; now I shall describe their lineage.
संकल्पा च मुहूर्ता च साध्या विश्वा च भामिनी
They are Saṃkalpā and Muhūrtā, as well as Sādhyā and Viśvā, O radiant one.
विश्वाया विश्वदेवास्तु साध्या साध्यानजीजनत्
From Viśvā came the Viśvadevas; from Sādhyā, the Sādhyas were born.
भानोस्तु भानवश्चैव मुहूर्ता वै मुहूर्तजाः
From Bhānu came the Bhānavas, and from Muhūrtā, the Muhūrtajas.
संकल्पायास्तु संकल्पो धर्मपुत्रा दश स्मृताः
From Saṃkalpā was born Saṃkalpa; ten sons, known as the sons of Dharma, are remembered.
प्रत्यूषश्च प्रभासश्च वसवो ऽष्टौ प्रकीर्तिताः
Pratyūṣa and Prabhāsa are named among the eight Vasus.
ध्रुवस्य पुत्रो भगवान् कालो लोकप्रकालनः
Dhruva’s son is the blessed Kāla, the measurer of the worlds.
पुरोजवो ऽनिलस्य स्यादविज्ञातगतिस्तथा
Purojava is said to be the son of Anila, whose movement is unknown.
विश्वकर्मा प्रभासस्य शिल्पकर्ता प्रजापतिः
Viśvakarman, the maker of crafts and a Prajāpati, is the son of Prabhāsa.
कद्रुर्मुनिश्च धर्मज्ञा तत्पुत्रान् वै निबोधत
Kadrū and the sage Muni, both knowers of dharma—now hear of their sons.
विवस्वान् सविता पूषा ह्यंशुमान् विष्णुरेव च
Vivasvān, Savitṛ, Pūṣā, Aṃśumān, and also Viṣṇu.
वैवस्वते ऽन्तरे प्रोक्ता आदित्याश्चादितेः सुताः
In the period of Vaivasvata, the Ādityas, sons of Aditi, are mentioned.
हिरण्यकशिपुं ज्येष्ठं हिरण्याक्षं तथापरम्
Hiraṇyakaśipu, the eldest, and also Hiraṇyākṣa, the next.
दृष्ट्वालेभेवरान् दिव्यान् स्तुत्वासौ विविधैः स्तवै
Seeing the divine boons, he praised them with various hymns.
बाधितास्ताडिता जग्मुर्देवदेवं पितामहम्
Afflicted and struck, they went to the god of gods, the Grandfather.
कूटस्थं जगतामेकं पुराणं पुरुषोत्तमम्
To the unchanging, the one of all worlds, the ancient, the supreme person.
सर्वदेवहितार्थाय जगाम कमलासनः
For the welfare of all the gods, the lotus-seated one went.
क्षीरोदस्योत्तरं कूलं यत्रास्ते हरिरीश्वरः
To the northern shore of the Milk Ocean, where Hari, the Lord, resides.
ववन्दे चरणौ मूर्ध्ना कृताञ्जलिरभाषत
He bowed at the feet with his head, joined his palms, and spoke.
व्यापी सर्वामरवपुर्महायोगी सनातनः
He, the all-pervading, eternal great yogi, whose form is the essence of all the gods,
वैराग्यैश्वर्यनिरतो रागातीतो निरञ्जनः
Devoted to detachment and sovereignty, beyond passion, stainless,
त्रातुमर्हस्यनन्तेश त्राता हि परमेश्वरः
O infinite Lord, you are worthy to protect; for the Supreme Lord is indeed the protector.
प्रोवाचोन्निद्रपद्माक्षः पीतवासासुरद्विषः
Then the lotus-eyed one, awakened from sleep, clad in yellow garments, the enemy of the asuras, spoke.
इमं देशमनुप्राप्ताः किं वा कार्यं करोमि वः
Having arrived in this place, what task do you wish me to accomplish for you?
बाधते भगवन् दैत्यो देवान् सर्वान् सहर्षिभिः
O Lord, a demon is oppressing all the gods together with the sages.
हन्तुमर्हसि सर्वेषां त्वं त्रातासि जगन्मय
You ought to slay him; you are the protector of all, O embodiment of the universe.
वधाय दैत्यमुख्यस्य सो ऽसृजत् पुरुषं स्वयम्
For the destruction of that foremost demon, he himself created a Man.
शङ्खचक्रगदापाणिं तं प्राह गरुडध्वजः
To him, who held conch, discus, and mace in his hands, the one with Garuḍa as his banner spoke.
इमं देशं समागन्तुं क्षिप्रमर्हसि पौरुषात्
By your might, you should quickly come to this place.
महापुरुषमव्यक्तं ययौ दैत्यमहापुरम्
That great, unmanifest Man went to the great city of the demon.
