इति श्रीगारुडे महापुराणे पूर्वखण्डे प्रथमांशाख्ये आचारकाण्डे गायत्त्रीन्यासनिरूपणं नाम पञ्चत्रिंशोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the revered Garuḍa Mahāpurāṇa, in the Pūrvakhaṇḍa, in the section called Ācārakāṇḍa, this is the thirty-fifth chapter entitled 'Explanation of the Gāyatrī Nyāsa.'
सन्ध्याविधिं प्रवक्ष्यामि श्रृणु रुद्राघनाशनम् 36.
I will explain the procedure of sandhyā; listen, O destroyer of Rudra's sins.
सप्रणवां सव्याहृतिं गायत्त्रीं शिरसा सह 36.
With the praṇava, the vyāhṛtis, and the Gāyatrī along with its head.
मनोवाक्रायजं दोषं प्राणायामैर्दहेद्द्विजः 36.
A twice-born should burn away faults arising from mind, speech, and action by means of prāṇāyāma.
सायमग्निश्च मेत्युक्ता प्रातः सूर्य्येत्यपः पिबेत् 36.
In the evening, one should approach the fire; in the morning, the sun; and drink water.
आपोहिष्ठेत्यृचा कुर्य्यान्मार्जनं तु कुशोदकैः 36.
With the Ṛc 'āpohiṣṭha', one should perform purification using water with kuśa grass.
रजस्तमः स्वमोहोत्थाञ्जाग्रत्स्वप्नसुषुप्तिजान् 36.
The impurities of passion and darkness arise from waking, dreaming, and deep sleep.
समुद्धृत्योदकं पाणौ जप्त्वा च द्रुपदां क्षिपेत् 36.
Having lifted water in the hand, one should recite and then pour it onto the ground.
उदुत्यंचित्रमित्याभ्यामुपतिष्ठेद्दिवाकरम् 36.
With the mantras 'udutyaṃ' and 'citram', one should worship the sun.
पूर्वसंध्यां जपंस्तिष्ठेत्पश्चिमामुपविश्य च 36.
One should stand while reciting the morning prayers, and sit for the evening prayers.
दशभिर्जन्मजनितं शतेन तु पुरा कृतम् 36.
Sins committed in ten births, and even those done a hundred times in the past,
रक्ता भवति गायत्त्री सावित्री शुक्लवर्णिका 36.
The Gāyatrī becomes red, Sāvitrī is white in color.
ॐ भूर्विन्यस्य हृदये ॐ भुवः शिरसि न्यसेत् 36.
One should place 'Om Bhūḥ' on the heart, 'Om Bhuvaḥ' on the head.
विन्यसेत्कवचे विद्वान्द्वितीयं नेत्रयोर्न्यसेत् 36.
The wise should place the second on the armor, and on both eyes.
संध्याकाले तु विन्यस्य जपेद्वै वेदमातरम् 36.
At the time of twilight, having placed them, one should recite the mother of the Vedas.
त्रिपदा या तु गायत्त्री ब्रह्मविष्णुमहेश्वरी 36.
The Gāyatrī, which is threefold, is Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Maheśvara.
सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तो ब्रह्मलोकमवाप्नुयात् 36.
Freed from all sin, one attains the world of Brahmā.
तं हन्ति सूर्य्यः सन्ध्यायां नोपास्तिं कुरुते तु यः 36.
The sun destroys him who does not perform worship at the time of twilight.
छन्दस्तु देवी गायत्त्री परमात्मा च देवता ।। 36.
The meter is the goddess Gāyatrī; the supreme self is the deity.
इति श्रीगारुडे महापुराणे पूर्वखण्डे प्रथमांशाख्ये आचारकाण्डे संध्याविधिर्नाम षट्त्रिंशोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the thirty-sixth chapter named 'The Procedure of Sandhyā' in the Ācāra section of the first part of the glorious Garuḍa Mahāpurāṇa.
गायत्त्री परमा देवी भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदा च ताम् 37.
Gāyatrī is the supreme goddess, bestowing both enjoyment and liberation.
गायत्त्रीकल्पमाख्यास्ये भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदं च तत् 37.
I will declare the Gāyatrī ritual, which grants both enjoyment and liberation.
त्रिसन्ध्यं ब्रह्मलोकीस्याच्छतं जप्त्वा जलं पिबेत् 37.
One who recites the trisandhya hundred times, belonging to the world of Brahma, may drink water.
भूर्भुवः स्वः स्वमन्त्रेण युतां द्वादशनामभिः सावित्र्यै सरस्वत्यै नमोनमः ।। 37.
With the mantra 'bhūḥ bhuvaḥ svaḥ', joined with twelve names, let one offer salutations to Savitri and Sarasvati.
वेदमात्रे च सांकृत्यै ब्रह्माणी कौशिकी क्रमात् 37.
To the mother of the Vedas, to Sankriti, to Brahmani, and to Kaushiki, in order.
स्वरेवं जुहुया दग्नौ समिदाज्यं हविष्यकम् 37.
Thus, one should offer in the fire, with the proper tone, the fuel, clarified butter, and oblation.
धर्मकामादिसिद्ध्यर्थं जुहुयात्सर्वकर्मसु 37.
For the attainment of righteousness, desire, and other goals, one should offer in all rituals.
यथा लक्षं तु जप्तव्यं पयोमूलफलार्शनैः 37.
As prescribed, one should recite the mantra a hundred thousand times, using milk, roots, fruits, and arsha.
उत्तरे शिखरे जाता भूम्यां पर्वत वासिनी 37.
Born on the northern peak, dwelling on the earth or mountain.
इति श्रीगारुडे महापुराणे पूर्वखण्डे प्रथमांशाख्ये आचारकाण्डे गायत्त्रीकल्पनिरूपणं नाम सप्तत्रिंशोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the thirty-seventh chapter named 'The Explanation of the Gayatri Practice' in the Achara section of the first part of the glorious Garuda Mahapurana.
