आवाहनं प्रकर्त्तव्यं देवदेवस्य शङ्खिनः 34.
The invocation of the God of gods, the bearer of the conch, should be performed.
न्यासं कृत्वा च तत्रस्थं चिन्तयेत्परमेश्वरम् 34.
Having performed the nyasa, he should meditate on the Supreme Lord present there.
इन्द्रादिलोकपालैश्च संयुक्तं विष्णुमव्ययम् 34.
He should contemplate the imperishable Vishnu, accompanied by the guardians of the worlds beginning with Indra.
पाद्यार्घ्याचमनीयानि ततो दद्याच्च विष्णवे 34.
Then he should offer water for washing the feet, water for hospitality, and water for sipping to Vishnu.
देवं संस्थाप्य विधिवद्वस्त्रं दद्याद्वृषध्वज 34.
Having properly installed the deity, O Vrishadhvaja, he should give cloth.
ततश्च मण्डले रुद्र ध्यायेद्देवं परेश्वरम् 34.
Then, O Rudra, he should meditate on the supreme Lord in the circle.
दद्याद्भैरवदेवाय मूलमन्त्रेण शङ्कर 34.
He should offer to Bhairava Deva with the root mantra, O Shankara.
ॐ क्षीं शिरसे नमश्च शिरसः पूजनं भवेत् 34.
"Om kṣīṃ, obeisance to the head"—thus the worship of the head is to be performed.
ॐ क्षैं कवचाय नमः कवचं परिपूजयेत् 34.
Om kṣaiṃ, obeisance to the armor; one should duly worship the armor.
ॐ क्षः अस्त्राय नम इति अस्त्रं चानेन पूजयेत् 34.
Om kṣaḥ, obeisance to the missile; thus, with this, one should worship the missile.
पूर्वादिषु प्रदेशेषु ह्येतास्तु परिपूजयेत् 34.
In the regions beginning with the east, indeed, these should be duly worshipped.
पूजयेत्परमां देवीं लक्ष्मीं लक्ष्मीप्रदां शुभाम् 34.
One should worship the supreme goddess Lakshmi, bestower of prosperity and auspiciousness.
खड्गं च मुसलं पाशमंकुशं सशरं धनुः 34.
The sword, the mace, the noose, the goad, the bow with arrows—
श्रीवत्सं कौस्तुभं मालां तथा पीताम्बरं शुभम् 34.
Śrīvatsa, Kaustubha, the garland, and the auspicious yellow garment—
ब्रह्माणं नारदं सिद्धं गुरुं परगुरुं तथा 34.
Brahmā, Nārada, the perfected sage, the teacher, and the supreme teacher as well—
इन्द्रं सवाहनं चाथ परिवारयुतं तथा 34.
Indra with his vehicle, and likewise those surrounded by attendants—
सोममीशानमेवं वै ब्रह्माणं परिपूजयेत् 34.
Soma, Īśāna, and thus Brahmā should be duly worshipped.
वज्रं शक्तिं तथा दण्डं खङ्गं पाशं ध्वजं गदाम् 34.
The thunderbolt, the spear, likewise the staff, the sword, the noose, the banner, and the mace—
विष्वक्सेनं ततो देवमैशान्यां दिशि पूजयेत् 34.
Then Viṣvaksena, the god, should be worshipped in the north-east direction.
पूजा कार्य्या महादेव ह्यनन्तस्य वृषध्वज 34.
Worship should be performed for Mahādeva, for Ananta, and for Vṛṣadhvaja.
गन्धं पुष्पं तथा धूपं दीपं नैवेद्यमेव च 34.
Fragrant substances, flowers, incense, lamp, and food offering as well—
स्तुवीत चान्या स्तुत्या प्रणवाद्यैर्वृषध्वज 34.
One should praise with other hymns, beginning with the sacred syllable Om, O Vṛṣadhvaja.
नमो विद्यास्वरूपाय विद्यादात्रे नमोनमः 34.
Salutations to the embodiment of knowledge, repeated salutations to the giver of knowledge.
सुरासुरनिहन्त्रे च सर्वदुष्टविनाशिने 34.
To the destroyer of gods and demons, to the destroyer of all wicked beings—
नमश्चेश्वरवन्द्याय शङ्कचक्रधारय च 34.
Salutations to the one worshipped by the lord of lords, to the bearer of conch and discus.
त्रिगुणायागुणायैव ब्रह्मविष्णुस्वरूपिणे 34.
To the one of three qualities, yet beyond qualities, to the one who embodies Brahmā and Viṣṇu.
इत्येवं संस्तवं कृत्वा देवदेवं विचिन्तयेत् 34.
Having thus performed this hymn of praise, one should contemplate the Lord of gods.
सूर्यकोटिप्रतीकाशं सर्वावयवसुन्दरम् 34.
He is resplendent like ten million suns, beautiful in every limb.
इति ते कथिता पूजा हयग्रीवस्य शङ्कर 34.
Thus, O Śaṅkara, the worship of Hayagrīva has been described to you.
न्यासादिकं प्रवक्ष्यामि गायत्र्याः शृणु शङ्कर 35.
