I have sought refuge in you alone, O all-pervading Viṣṇu.
Thus one should praise the Lord of gods, the destroyer of all afflictions.
A man should meditate in his heart on Viṣṇu, endowed with the five elements.
O Śaṅkara, the worship of Vāsudeva is supreme and grants all desires.
And whoever recites this Rudra five-element worship, O man,
O bearer of conch and mace, tell me the worship of Sudarshana.
Hari said: First, one should bathe, and then worship Hari.
With the root-mantra, indeed, one should perform nyasa; now listen to the root-mantra.
It is declared to destroy all evils and to break harmful mantras.
He is gentle, crowned, and holds the conch, discus, mace, and lotus.
He should be worshipped, O great lord, with offerings such as fragrance and flowers.
Thus, O Rudra, whoever performs this supreme worship of the discus,
Afterwards, he should recite this hymn, which destroys all diseases.
To the one blazing with a garland of flames, with a thousand spokes, the eye,
To the excellent discus, the wondrous discus, destroyer of all mantras,
For the protection of the worlds, destroyer of wicked demons,
Salutations to the eye, whose form is light, who destroys the fear of worldly existence.
To the one who is the form beyond the planets, lord of the planets, salutations.
To the giver of grace to devotees and protector of devotees, repeated salutations.
To the discus, the weapon of Vishnu, again and again, salutations.
Whoever recites this with supreme devotion goes to Vishnu's world, having reduced sin to ashes, and becomes fit for Vishnu's realm.
Thus, in the glorious Garuda Mahapurana, in the Purva-khanda, in the section called Achara-kanda, the thirty-third chapter named 'The Procedure for Sudarshana Worship' is concluded.
Once again, tell me about the worship of the gods, O Hṛṣīkeśa, wielder of the mace.
Hari said: Listen to this, O Lord of the universe, by which Viṣṇu is pleased.
The root mantra, O great god, is the utterance of Hayagrīva.
"Oṃ sauṃ kṣauṃ, obeisance to the head"—thus, united with the praṇava.
Hear now its limbs, O great god, O bull-bannered one: "Oṃ kṣīṃ, to the head, svāhā" is said for the head, and likewise "kṣūṃ, vaṣaṭ."
"Oṃ" joined with "ka" is known as the deity's crest, O bull-bannered one.
"Oṃ kṣauṃ, for the three eyes, vauṣaṭ"—the eye of the deity is thus declared.
I will now explain the procedure of worship; listen to me as I tell it. First, after bathing and performing ācamana, one should then proceed to the place of worship.
