Garuda Purana

एते मन्त्राः समाख्यातास्तव रुद्र समासतः 32.

These mantras have been declared to you, O Rudra, in summary.

ॐ पद्माय नमः आत्मानं वासुदेवं च ध्यात्वा चैव परेश्वरम् ।। 32.

Om, salutations to Padma; having meditated upon oneself as Vāsudeva and also the Supreme Lord.

आसनं पूजयेत्पश्चादावाह्य विधिवन्नरः 32.

Afterwards, one should worship the seat, having invoked it according to the proper method.

गरुडं पूजयेदग्रे वासुदेवस्य शङ्कर 32.

One should first worship Garuḍa, O Śaṅkara, for Vāsudeva.

धर्मं ज्ञानं च वैराग्यमैश्वर्यं पूर्वदेशतः 32.

Dharma, knowledge, detachment, and sovereignty are to be placed in the eastern direction.

मण्डलत्रयमध्ये तु कीर्त्तिता ह्यसनस्थितिः 32.

In the center of the three circles, the seat is described as being established.

कर्णिकायां वासुदेवं पूजयेत्परमेश्वरम् 32.

In the pericarp, one should worship Vāsudeva, the Supreme Lord.

शक्तयश्चैव पूर्वादौ देवदेवस्य शङ्कर 32.

And, O Śaṅkara, the energies of the Lord of gods are to be worshipped, beginning from the east.

अधो नाग तदूर्द्ध्वन्तु ब्रह्माणं पूजयेत्सुधीः 32.

Below, one should worship the serpent, and above, the wise should worship Brahmā.

आवाह्य मण्डले देवं कृत्वा न्यासं तु तस्य च 32.

Having invoked the deity into the maṇḍala and performed his nyāsa there,

स्नानं वस्त्रं तथाचामं गन्धं पुष्पं च धूपकम् कुर्य्याच्छङ्कर मूलेन जपं चापि समर्पयेत् ।। 32.

One should offer bath, clothing, water for sipping, fragrance, flowers, and incense, and, O Śaṅkara, recite the root mantra and present it as well.

इदं स्तोत्रं जपेत्पश्चाद्वासुदेवमनुस्मरन् 32.

Afterwards, one should recite this hymn, meditating on Vāsudeva.

प्रद्युम्नायादिदेवायानिरुद्धाय नमोनमः 32.

Salutations again and again to Pradyumna, the primordial god, and to Aniruddha.

नरपूज्याय कीर्त्याय स्तुत्याय वरदाय च 32.

To the one worshipped by men, renowned, praised, and bestower of boons.

सृष्टिसंहारकर्त्रे च ब्रह्मणः पतये नमः 32.

Salutations to the creator and destroyer of the universe, the Lord of Brahmā.

कलिकल्मषहर्त्रे च सुरेशाय नमोनमः 32.

Salutations again and again to the remover of the sins of Kali and the Lord of the gods.

बहुरूपाय तीर्थाय त्रिगुणायागुणाय च 32.

To the one of many forms, the holy place, possessing the three qualities and also beyond qualities.

मोक्षद्वाराय धर्माय निर्माणाय नमोनमः 32.

Salutations again and again to the gateway to liberation, to righteousness, and to the creator.

संसारसागरे घोरे निमग्नं मां समुद्धर 32.

Rescue me, who am immersed in the dreadful ocean of worldly existence.

त्वामेव सर्वगं विष्णुं गतोऽहं शरणं गतः 32.

I have sought refuge in you alone, O all-pervading Viṣṇu.

एवं स्तुवीत देवेशं सर्वक्लेशविनाशनम् 32.

Thus one should praise the Lord of gods, the destroyer of all afflictions.

पञ्चतत्त्वसमायुक्तं ध्यायोद्विष्णुं नरो हृदि 32.

A man should meditate in his heart on Viṣṇu, endowed with the five elements.

सर्वकामप्रदा श्रेष्ठा वासुदेवस्य शङ्कर 32.

O Śaṅkara, the worship of Vāsudeva is supreme and grants all desires.

इदं च यः पठेद्रुद्र पञ्चतत्त्वार्चनं नरः 32.

And whoever recites this Rudra five-element worship, O man,

सुदर्शनस्य पूजां मे वद शङ्खगदाधर 33.

O bearer of conch and mace, tell me the worship of Sudarshana.

हरिरुवाच स्नानमादौ प्रकुर्वीत पूजयेच्च हरिं तत ।। 33.

Hari said: First, one should bathe, and then worship Hari.

मूलमन्त्रेण वै न्यासं मूलमन्त्रं श्रृणुष्व च 33.

With the root-mantra, indeed, one should perform nyasa; now listen to the root-mantra.

कथितः सर्वदुष्टानां नाशको मन्त्रभेदकः 33.

It is declared to destroy all evils and to break harmful mantras.

शङ्कचक्रगदापद्मधरं सौम्यं किरीटिनम् 33.

He is gentle, crowned, and holds the conch, discus, mace, and lotus.
