तथाष्टादश विद्याश्च हरी रुद्रं ततोऽब्रवीत् हरिरुवाच 2.
Then, the eighteen branches of knowledge—Hari spoke to Rudra; Hari said:
अहं हि देवो देवानां सर्वलोकेश्वरेश्वरः 2.
Indeed, I am the god of the gods, the lord of all worlds and their rulers.
अहं हि पूजितो रुद्र ! ददामि परमां गतिम् 2.
O Rudra, when I am worshipped, I grant the highest state.
जगत्स्थितेरहं बीजं जगत्कर्त्ता त्वहं शिव ! 2.
I am the seed of the world's existence; indeed, O Shiva, I am the creator of the universe.
अवतारैश्च मत्स्याद्यैः पालयाम्यखिलं जगत् 2.
By my descents, beginning with the Fish and others, I protect the entire world.
स्वर्गादीनां च कर्त्ताहं स्वर्गादीन्यहमेव च 2.
I am the creator of heaven and the rest; indeed, I myself am heaven and the others.
ज्ञाता श्रोता तथा मन्ता वक्ता वक्तव्यमेव च 2.
I am the knower, the hearer, the thinker, the speaker, and that which is to be spoken.
ध्यानं पूजोपहारोऽहं मण्डलान्यहमेव च 2.
I am meditation, the offering of worship, and I am indeed the sacred diagrams.
सर्वज्ञानान्यहं शम्भो ! ब्रह्मात्माहमहं शिव ! 2.
O Shambhu, I am all knowledge; O Shiva, I am the essence of Brahman.
अहं साक्षात्सदाचारो धर्मोऽहं वैष्णवो ह्यहम् 2.
I am directly righteous conduct; I am dharma, and truly, I am the Vaishnava path.
यमोऽहं नियमो रुद्र ! व्रतानि विविधानि च 2.
O Rudra, I am restraint, discipline, and the various vows.
पुरा मां गरुडः पक्षी तपसाराधयद्भुवि 2.
Long ago, Garuda the bird worshipped me on earth through austerity.
मम माता च विनता नागैर्दासीकृता हरे 2.
And my mother Vinata, O Hari, was made a slave by the serpents.
दास्याद्विमोक्षयिष्यामि यथाहं वाहनस्तव 2.
I will free her from slavery, just as I have become your vehicle.
पुराणसंहिताकर्त्ता यथाऽहं स्यां तथा कुरुं विष्णुरुवाच 2.
Just as I am the composer of the Purana collections, so you should act—thus spoke Vishnu.
नागदास्यान्मातरं त्वं विनतां मोक्षयिष्यसि 2.
You will free your mother Vinata from the slavery of the serpents.
महाबलो वाहनस्त्वं भविष्यसि विषार्दनः 2.
You will become a mighty being, a vehicle, and the destroyer of poison.
यदुक्तं मत्स्वरूपं च तव चाविर्भविष्यति 2.
Whatever form of mine has been described will also manifest for you.
यथाहं देवदेवानां श्रीः ख्यातो विनतासुत 2.
Just as I am renowned as the fortune of the gods, O son of Vinata—
यथाहं कीर्त्तनीयोऽथ तथा त्वं गरुडात्मना 2.
Just as I am to be praised, so too are you, in your Garuda form.
इत्युक्तो गरुडो रुद्र ! कश्यपायाह पृच्छते 2.
Thus addressed, Garuda spoke to Kashyapa, O Rudra, as he inquired.
स्वयं चान्यमना भूत्वा विद्ययान्यान्य जीवयत् गरुडोक्तं गारुडं हि श्रृणु रुद्र ! मदात्मकम् ।। 2.
And, becoming absorbed in another thought, he revived another with knowledge; hear, O Rudra, the Garuda teaching spoken by Garuda himself, which is of my own essence.
इति रुद्राब्जजौ विष्णोः शुश्राव ब्रह्मणो मुनिः 3.
Thus, the sage heard from Brahma about the lotus-born Rudra and Vishnu.
मुनीनां श्रृण्वतां मध्ये सर्गाद्यं देवपूजनम् 3.
Among the sages listening, the worship of the gods at the beginning of creation was described.
वर्णाश्रमादिधर्माश्च दानराज्यादिधर्मकाः 3.
The duties of varna and ashrama, as well as those concerning charity and kingship, were explained.
अंगानि प्रलयो धर्मकामार्थज्ञानमुत्तमम् 3.
The limbs, dissolution, and the supreme knowledge of dharma, desire, and wealth were set forth.
पुराणे गारुडे सर्वं गरुडो भगवानथ 3.
In the Garuda Purana, all this was declared by the blessed Garuda.
भुत्वा हरेर्वाहनं च सर्गादीनां च कारणम् 3.
Having become the vehicle of Hari and the cause of creation and its sequences,
चक्रे क्षुधा हृतं यस्य ब्रह्माण्डमुदरे हरेः 3.
He, whose hunger seized the cosmic egg within the belly of Hari, performed these acts.
कश्यपो गारुडाद्वृक्षं दग्धं चाजीवयद्यतः 3.
Kashyapa revived a tree burned by Garuda, through the power of Garuda's teaching.
