The third, Skanda, is designated and spoken by Kumara; the fourth, called Shiva Dharma, is spoken by Nandishvara.
The wondrous one spoken by Durvasa, then the one spoken by Narada; the Kapila, the Vamana, and likewise the one recited by Ushanas.
The Brahmanda, the Varuna, and the one called Kalika; the Maheshvara and the Samba, thus the collection of all meanings; the one spoken by Parashara, the Maricha, and the one called Bhargava.
The Purana, the Dharma Shastra, the Vedas and their limbs, O sage; Nyaya, Shaunaka, Mimamsa, Ayurveda, Arthashastra, Gandharva, Dhanurveda, and the eighteen recognized sciences.
At the end of Dvapara, Hari removed the burden of the gurus; with Dharma standing on one foot, Krishna departed as Achyuta.
Then people will become wicked and merciless; the qualities of sattva, rajas, and tamas are seen in man, and, impelled by time, they revolve within the self.
When sattva is abundant, along with mind, intellect, and senses, then it is known as the Krita Yuga, when there is delight in knowledge and austerity.
When the power of people is in actions and desires, and in fame, then, O Shaunaka, know that Treta is the predominance of rajas.
When there is greed, discontent, pride, deceit, and envy, and also actions driven by desire, that is Dvapara, the mixture of rajas and tamas.
When there is constant falsehood, lethargy, sleep, violence as a means, sorrow, delusion, fear, and poverty, that is Kali, remembered as tamas.
In which people are lustful, always speaking harshly, bandits dominate the lands, and the Vedas are corrupted by heresy.
Kings beg from their subjects, overcome by lust and hunger; ascetics without vows, impure, beggars who are householders.
Ascetics will dwell in villages, renunciants will be greedy for wealth; those with small bodies will eat excessively, and thieves will be regarded as virtuous.
Servants will abandon their master, and ascetics will abandon their vows; Shudras will accept gifts, and Vaishyas will devote themselves to religious observances.
People will be anxious, and the populace will resemble ghouls; through unjust food, the worship of fire, deities, and guests will be performed.
When the age of Kali arrives, they will not perform the ancestral water rites; all people will be devoted to women, and the majority will be Shudras, O Shaunaka.
In the Kali age, women will be talkative and fortunate; intent on scratching their heads, they will break commands when scolded.
People deluded by heretical views will not worship Vishnu; O Brahmins, though Kali is an ocean of faults, there is indeed one great virtue.
By the mere chanting of Krishna's name, one abandons great bondage; the result obtained by meditating on Vishnu in the Krita age, by recitation in Treta,
by service in Dvapara, is obtained in Kali by singing the praises of Hari; therefore, O Shaunaka, Hari should always be meditated upon, sung, and worshipped.
Suta said: At the end of a thousand cycles of four ages, there is a Brahmic, occasional dissolution; at the end of the kalpa, a hundred-year drought arises.
Then, seven fierce suns appear in the sky; they drink up all the water and dry out the three worlds.
The worlds—Bhur, Bhuvar, Svar, Maharloka, Janaloka, both moving and unmoving—are thus consumed; Vishnu, having become Rudra, burns the lower regions.
Vishnu burns the three worlds, and from his mouth he creates clouds; for a hundred years, great clouds of various colors pour down rain.
The wind, in the form of Vishnu, blows for a hundred years of rain with great force; Vishnu, taking the form of Brahma, becomes the ocean, and when all that is fixed and moving is destroyed, Vishnu lies on the endless serpent.
Having slept for a thousand years, Hari again creates the world; now I will describe the natural dissolution—listen, O Shaunaka.
When a hundred years are complete, having withdrawn the entire world, Hari, by the power of yoga, places Brahma within himself and is liberated.
Those who have reached Brahma's abode also attain the supreme state; O twice-born, clouds formed from the drought and sun fill the cosmic egg with rain for a hundred years.
With the water inside, the cosmic egg of the Lord of the world is broken; when Brahma's lifespan is complete, it is shattered and dissolves into the water.
Thus, the support of the world dissolves into the water, and water merges into fire, fire into air.
