द्रुपदाद्यास्त्रिरावर्तेदयं गौरिति च त्र्यृचम् । अन्यांश्चैव तु मन्त्रान्वा स्मृतिदृष्टान्समाहितः ॥ १,२१४.
He should recite the Drupada and other hymns three times, as well as the 'ayaṃ gaur' verse, and, with concentration, other mantras seen in the Smṛtis.
सव्याहृतिं सप्रणवां गायत्रीं वा जपेद्बुधः आवर्तयेद्वा प्रणवं स्मरेद्वा विष्णमव्ययम् ॥ १,२१४.
The wise should recite the Gāyatrī with the Vyāhṛtis and the praṇava, or repeat the praṇava, or meditate upon the imperishable Viṣṇu.
विष्णोरायतनं त्वापः स एवाप्पतिरुच्यते । तस्यैवं तनवस्त्वेतास्तस्मात्तं ह्यप्सु संस्मरेत् ॥ १,२१४.
The waters are indeed the abode of Viṣṇu, and he is called the lord of waters; these are his forms, therefore one should remember him in the waters.
तद्विष्णोरिति मन्त्रेण निमज्याप्सु पुनः पुनः । गायत्त्री वैष्णवी ह्येषा विष्णोः संस्मरणाय वै ॥ १,२१४.
With the mantra 'tad viṣṇoḥ', one should immerse repeatedly in the waters; for this Gāyatrī is indeed Vaiṣṇavī, meant for remembering Viṣṇu.
ओं इदमापप्रवहता स्वं मलं क्षाललोहितम् । यथात्वहोत्रामृतं यच्च शोफे अभीषणम् ॥ १,२१४.
Om. May these waters carry away my impurity and blood, just as the morning oblation and what is fierce are cleansed.
स्नात्वैवं वाससी धौते अच्छिन्ने परिधाय च । प्रक्षाल्य च मृदाद्भिश्च हस्तौ प्रक्षाल्य वै तदा ॥ १,२१४.
Having bathed in this way, wearing washed and unsoiled garments, and after cleansing the hands with earth and water, one should proceed.
आचान्ते पुनाराचामेन्मन्त्रेण स्नानभोजने । द्रुपदां च त्रिरावर्त्य तथा चैवाघमर्षणम् ॥ १,२१४.
After sipping water, one should again perform ācāman with a mantra before bathing and eating, reciting the Drupada three times and likewise the Aghamarṣaṇa.
आचम्याप्लाव्य चात्मानं त्रिराचम्यशनेरसून् । अथोपतिष्टेदादित्यं मूर्ध्नि पुष्पान्विताञ्जलिः ॥ १,२१४.
Having sipped and sprinkled oneself, and sipped water three times, one should then, with hands joined and adorned with flowers, worship the Sun at the head.
प्रक्षिप्योदकमद्धूय उदुत्यं चित्रमित्यपि । तच्चक्षुर्देव इति च हंसः शुचिषदित्यपि ॥ १,२१४.
Sprinkling water and raising it up, one should recite 'udutyaṃ citram', 'taccakṣur deva', and 'haṃsaḥ śuciṣad'.
एताञ्जपेदूर्ध्वबाहुः सूर्यमीक्ष्य समाहितः । गायत्त्रीं च तथा शक्त्या उपस्थाय दिवाकरम् ॥ १,२१४.
Reciting these with arms raised, gazing at the Sun with concentration, and likewise reciting the Gāyatrī according to ability, one should approach the Sun.
विभ्राडित्यनुवाकेन सूक्तेन पुरुषस्य च । शिवसङ्कल्पेन च तथा मण्डलब्राह्मणेन च ॥ १,२१४.
With the hymn of Vibhrāṭ, the Purusha Sūkta, the Śivasaṅkalpa, and the Maṇḍala Brāhmaṇa, one should proceed likewise.
दिवाकीर्त्या तथा चान्यैः सौरैर्मन्त्रैश्च शक्तितः । जपयज्ञस्तु कर्तव्यः सर्वदेवप्रणीतकैः ॥ १,२१४.
With the Divākīrti and other Saurī mantras, according to ability, one should perform the japa-sacrifice with all mantras prescribed for the gods.
अध्यात्मविद्यां विधिवज्जपेद्वा जपसिद्धये । सव्यं कृत्वा त्रिराचम्य श्रियं मेधां धृतिं क्षितिम् ॥ १,२१४.
One should recite the knowledge of the Self according to rule for success in japa, having sipped water three times with the right hand, for wealth, intelligence, fortitude, and the earth.
वाचं वागीश्वरीं पुष्टिं तुष्टिञ्च परितर्पयेत् । उमामरुन्धतीं चैव शचीं मातरमेव च ॥ १,२१४.
One should satisfy Vāk (the goddess of speech), Vāgīśvarī, Puṣṭi (nourishment), Tuṣṭi (contentment), Umā, Arundhatī, Śacī, and the mother.
जयां च विजयां चैव सावित्रीं शान्तिमेव च । स्वाहां स्वधां धृतिं चैव तथैवादितिमुत्तमाम् ॥ १,२१४.
One should also satisfy Jayā, Vijayā, Sāvitrī, Śānti (peace), Svāhā, Svadhā, Dhṛti (steadfastness), and likewise the supreme Aditi.
ऋषिपत्नीश्च कन्याश्च तर्पयेत्काम्यदेवताः । सर्वमङ्गलकामस्तु तर्पयेत्सर्वमङ्गलाम् ॥ १,२१४.
He should satisfy the wives of the sages, maidens, and the desired deities; and whoever desires all auspiciousness should satisfy all the auspicious goddesses.
आब्रह्मस्तम्बपर्यन्तं जगत्तृप्यत्विदं ब्रुवन् । क्षिपेदपोऽञ्जलींस्त्रींश्च कुर्वन्काङ्क्षेत तर्पणम् ॥ १,२१४.
Reciting, 'May the world, from Brahmā down to the smallest pillar, be satisfied,' he should offer three handfuls of water, wishing for the act of satisfaction.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् २१५ ब्रह्मोवाच । तर्पणं सम्प्रवक्ष्यामि देवादिपितृतुष्टिदम् ॥ १,२१५.
Brahmā said: I will now explain the rite of satisfaction (tarpaṇa), which brings pleasure to the gods and ancestors.
ओं मोदास्तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं प्रमोदास्तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं सुमुखास्तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं दुर्मुखास्तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं विघ्नास्तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं विघ्नकर्तारस्तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं छन्दांसि तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं वेदास्तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं ओषधयस्तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं सनातनस्तृप्यताम् । ओं इतराचार्यास्तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं संवत्सरःसावयवस्तृप्यताम् । ओं देवास्तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं अप्सरसस्तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं देवान्धकास्तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं सागरस्तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं नागास्तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं पर्वतास्तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं सरिन्मनुष्या यक्षास्तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं रक्षांसि तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं पिशाचास्तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं सुपर्णास्तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं भूतानि तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं भूतग्रामाश्चतुर्विधास्तृप्यन्ताम् । ओं दक्षस्तृप्यताम् । ओं प्रचेतास्तृप्यताम् । ओं मरीचिस्तृप्यताम् । ओं आत्रिस्तृप्यताम् । ओं अङ्गिरास्तृप्यताम् । ओं पुलस्त्यस्तृप्यताम् । ओं पुलहस्तृप्यताम् । ओं क्रतुस्तृप्यताम् । ओं नारदस्तृप्यताम् ! ओं भृगुस्तृप्यताम् । ओं विश्वामित्रस्तृप्यताम् । ओं रैवतस्तृप्यताम् । ओं चाक्षुषस्तृप्यताम् । ओं महातेजास्तृप्यताम् । ओं वैवस्वतस्तृप्यताम् । ओं ध्रुवस्तृप्यताम् । ओं धवस्तृप्यताम् । ओं अनिलस्तृप्यताम् । ओं प्रभासस्तृप्यताम् ॥ १,२१५.

Om, may Pañcaśikha be satisfied. Om, may the carrier of offerings for humans be satisfied. Om, may Anala be satisfied. Om, may Soma be satisfied. Om, may Yama be satisfied. May the world, from Brahmā down to the pillar, be satisfied. Om, salutations and offerings to the ancestors. Om, salutations and offerings to the grandfathers. Om, salutations and offerings to the great-grandfathers. Om, salutations and offerings to the mothers. Om, salutations and offerings to the grandmothers. Om, salutations and offerings to the great-grandmothers. Om, salutations and offerings to the maternal grandfathers. Om, salutations and offerings to the maternal great-grandfathers. Om, salutations and offerings to the aged maternal great-grandfathers—may they be satisfied. May the lower, upper, and middle ancestors, those who are gentle, those who have gone, those who are righteous, protect us in the invocation of the ancestors. By reciting the lineage, the first handful is for the father. Om, our ancestors are Aṅgiras. Our ancestors are Atharvan and Bhṛgu. May we be in the good favor of those worthy of sacrifice; may we be blessed with auspiciousness and good mind. Om, may our gentle ancestors, the Agniṣvāttas, come by the divine paths to this sacrifice, delighting in the offerings, and may they bless us.
ओं ऊर्जं वहन्तीरमृतं घृतं पयः कीलालं परिस्नुतं स्वधा स्थ तर्पयत मे पितॄन् । ओं पितृभ्यः स्वधा नमः । ओं पितामहेभ्यः स्वधा नमः । ओं प्रपितामहेभ्यः स्वधान नमः । ओं मातामहेभ्यः स्वधा नमः । ओं प्रमातामहेभ्यः स्वधा नमः । ओं वृद्धप्रमातामहेभ्यः स्वधा नमः । पितामहस्यदृ । ओं अक्षन्पितरो अमीमदन्त पितरो अमी तृप्यन्तः पितरः शुं(स्व) धध्वं पिबेह पितरोऽपि वानत्रयांश्च विश्रयांश्च भवनपवित्रत्वा रथपति ते जातवेदाः स्वधाभिर्यज्ञं सुकृतं जुपस्व? । ओं णदुवाता ऋतायते मधु क्षरन्ति सिन्धवः । माध्वीर्नः सन्त्वोषधीर्मधुनक्तमुतोषसो मधुमत्पार्थिवं रजः । मधु द्यौरस्तु नः पिता मधु मान्नो वनस्पतिर्मधुभामस्तु सूर्यो माध्वीर्गावो भवन्तु नः ॥ १,२१५.
Om, carrying nourishment, immortality, clarified butter, milk, honey, and sprinkled offerings, you are Svadhā—satisfy my ancestors. Om, salutations and offerings to the ancestors. Om, salutations and offerings to the grandfathers. Om, salutations and offerings to the great-grandfathers. Om, salutations and offerings to the maternal grandfathers. Om, salutations and offerings to the maternal great-grandfathers. Om, salutations and offerings to the aged maternal great-grandfathers. For the grandfather: Om, the ancestors have not perished, the ancestors are satisfied, the ancestors are drinking Svadhā, let them drink, let the ancestors be in the three worlds and in the pure realms, O charioteer, O Jātavedas, with Svadhā, perform the sacrifice well. Om, the winds move according to truth, the rivers flow with honey, may the herbs be sweet for us, may the nights be sweet, may the earthly realm be sweet, may the sky be our father, may the trees be sweet for us, may the sun be sweet for us, may the cows be sweet for us.
प्रपितामहस्याञ्जलिदानम् । ओं नमो वः पितरो रसाय नमो वः पितरः शुष्माय नमो वः पितरो जीवाय नमो वः पितरः स्वधायै नमो वः पितरो घोराय नमो वः पितरो मन्यवे । नमो वः पितरो गृहान्न पितरो दत्तः । नमो वः पितरो दध्मे तद्वः पितरो वासः । मातामहानां त्रिरञ्जलिदृ । ततो मात्रादीनान्दृ ॥ १,२१५.
Offering for the great-grandfather: Om, salutations to you, ancestors of essence; salutations to you, ancestors of strength; salutations to you, ancestors of life; salutations to you, ancestors of Svadhā; salutations to you, ancestors of terror; salutations to you, ancestors of wrath. Salutations to you, ancestors, from the houses, ancestors who are given. Salutations to you, ancestors, from the curds, ancestors who are clothed. For the maternal grandfathers, three handfuls. Then for the maternal relatives.
ये चास्माकं कुले जाता अपुत्रा गोत्रिणो मृताः । ते तृप्यन्तु मया दत्तं वस्त्रनिष्पीडनोदकम् ॥ १,२१५.
And those who were born in our lineage, who died childless, belonging to the family, may they be satisfied by the water squeezed from the cloth that I have given.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् २१६ ब्रह्मोवाच । वैश्वदेवं प्रवक्ष्यामि होमलक्षणमुत्तमम् । प्रज्वाल्य चाग्निं पर्युक्ष्यओं क्रष्यादमग्निं प्रहिणोमि दूरं यमराज्यं गच्छतु रिप्रवाहः । इहैवायमितरो जातवेदा देवेभ्यो हव्यं वहतु प्रजानत् । ओं पावक वैश्वानर इदमासनं अरणीगर्भसंस्कृततेजोरूप महाब्रह्मन्मुहूर्तास्त्रिषु वैश्वानरं प्रतिबोधयामि । ओं वैश्वानरे न उभयं आप्रयातु परावतः अग्निर्न स्वद्युतीरूपपृष्ठो दिवि पृष्ठोऽश्वि पृथिव्यां पृष्ठा विवेवा ओषधीचाविवेश वैश्वानरः सहसा पृष्ठोऽग्निः नमो दिव्य स षष्ठां नक्तम् ॥ १,२१६.
Brahmā said: I will now explain the excellent characteristics of the Vaiśvadeva rite. After kindling the fire and sprinkling it, 'Om, I send the fire far away; let the stream of enemies go to the realm of Yama. May this Jātavedas remain here and carry the offering to the gods.' Om, O Pāvaka, Vaiśvānara, this is your seat, shaped by the womb of the fire-stick, radiant form, O great Brahman, at the three moments I awaken Vaiśvānara. Om, may Vaiśvānara reach both sides, may Agni, radiant on the back, in heaven, on the back of the horse, on earth, on the back, enter the herbs, Vaiśvānara, suddenly on the back, O Agni, salutations to the divine, may he be sixth at night.

Om, offering to Prajāpati. Om, offering to Soma. Om, offering to Bṛhaspati. Om, offering to Agni and Soma. Om, offering to Indra and Agni. Om, offering to Heaven and Earth. Om, offering to Indra. Om, offering to all the gods. Om, offering to Brahman. Om, offering to the waters. Om, offering to the herbs and trees. Om, offering to the planets. Om, offering to the divine deities. Om, offering to Indra. Om, offering to Indra's men. Om, offering to Yama. Om, offering to Yama's men. Om, offering to all beings who move in heaven. Om, offering to the earth and ancestors. Om, to those beings who wander, poor and suffering in the midst of the world, I give an offering desiring nourishment; may the lord of nourishment grant me nourishment. Om, may the lord of the outcastes grant nourishment to the outcastes and fallen ones.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् २१७ ब्रह्मोवाच । अथ सन्ध्याविधं वक्ष्ये द्विजातीनां समासतः । अपवित्रः पवित्रो वा सर्वावस्थां गतोऽपि वा ॥ १,२१७.
Brahmā said: Now I will briefly explain the method of sandhyā (twilight worship) for the twice-born. Whether impure or pure, or in any state whatsoever,
यः स्मरेत्पुण्डरीकाक्षं स बाह्याभ्यन्तरः शुचिः ॥ १,२१७.
He who remembers the lotus-eyed one becomes pure both outwardly and inwardly.
आपो मा तस्मादेनसः पावमानश्च मुञ्चतु इविष्मतो विमा आपोहविष्मानाविरासति । हविष्मान् देव असुरो हविष्मानस्तु सूर्यः । देवीरापो अपा पत्न्या यश्च ऊर्मिर्हविष्यः इन्द्रियवान्मादित्यन्तनः तं देवेभ्यो देवता दाभुशुक्रलेभ्यस्तेषां भागकर्षिवसिसमुद्रस्य दक्षिण्याग्रयासिमेनापोग्रर्भिरश्मतमोधोः । आपो देवी मधुमतीरगृह्णन्तु ह्यन्नती राजस्वतिलाः । याभिर्मित्रावरुणस्य सिञ्चयाभिरिन्द्रमनयत्यन्न वाती वद्रुपदां शन्नो देवी अपामसृग्द्वयसंसूर्ये सन्तं समाहितं अपांरसस्य यो रस्य यो गृह्णास्युत्तमम् । आपो देवीरुपसूर्य मधुमतीवयस्याय प्रजाभ्यः तासा मास्थानात्वर्जिहतामोषधयः सपिप्पलाः । पुनन्तु मा पितरः सौम्यासः पुनन्त्वनापि पिता सहसाः पवित्रेण गतायुषा । पुनन्तु मा पितामहाः पुनन्तु प्रपितामहाः । पवित्रेण गतायुषा विश्वमायुर्व्यश्रवैः । अग्न आयूंषि परसत्माचरोर्जमिषञ्च त्वचे वावस्वत्वच्छूनाम् । पुनन्तु मा देवजनाः पुनन्तु मनसा धियः । पुनन्तु विश्वा भूतानि जातवेदः ! पुनीहि मा । पवित्रेण पुनीहि मा शुक्रेण देव दीद्यत् । अग्ने क्रत्वा क्रतूंरनु । यत्ते पवित्रमर्चिष्यग्ने विततमन्तरा ब्रह्मा तेन पुनातु मा । पवमानः सुवर्जनः । पवित्रेण विचर्षणिः । यः पोता स पुनातु मा । उभाभ्यां देव सवितः । पवित्रेण सवेन च । इदं ब्रह्मपुनीमहे । वैश्वदेवीः पुनती देव्या गृभ्नास्यामिसावक्ष्यस्तान्नोवीत पूज्याः । तयामदन्तः सधमादेषु वयं स्याम पतयो रयीणाम् । चित्प तिर्मा पुनात्वच्छिद्रेण पवित्रेण सूर्यस्य रश्मिभिः । तस्य ते पवित्रपूतस्य यत्कामः । प्रणितच्छकेयं देवो वाक्पतिर्मा सविता त्वच्छिद्रेण पवित्रेण सूर्यस्य रश्मिभिः । तस्य ते पवित्रपते ! पवित्रपूतस्य चत्कामः । पुनस्तच्छकेयं द्युपतिं अयं गौः पृश्रिरक्रमीसदशशतं मातरं पुनः पितरञ्च प्रयस्मः । देवो मा सविता पुनात्वच्छिद्रेण पवित्रेण सूर्यस्य रश्मिभिः । तस्य ते पवित्रपते पवित्रपूतस्य यत्कामः पुनातच्छकेयम्? । ओं तद्विष्णोः परमं पदं सदा पश्यन्ति सूरयः । दिवीव चक्षुराततम् ॥ १,२१४.
May the waters free me from sin; may Pavamāna release me. The waters, full of oblation, are manifest. The god, the Asura, and the Sun are all endowed with oblation. The divine waters, the wives of the waters, and the wave rich in oblation, endowed with strength, up to the end of the sun—may the gods and goddesses, the shining ones, take their share of the ocean's southernmost, foremost, and sharpest stream. May the divine, honeyed waters accept us, along with the grains and sesame. By which the friends Mitra and Varuṇa are sprinkled, by which Indra is led, and by which the Drupada is made, may the divine waters grant us double strength and a focused mind. Of the essence of the waters, of that essence, may you take the highest. O divine waters, approach the sun, honeyed, for the sake of offspring; may the plants and the pipal trees not abandon their place. May the gentle ancestors purify me, may the fathers who have gone before purify me with the sacred filter, may the grandfathers and great-grandfathers purify me, may the sacred filter purify all my life with the rays. O Agni, may you act for my life, for my strength, and for my skin. May the divine beings purify me, may the mind and intellect purify me, may all beings purify me, O Jātavedas, purify me! Purify me with the sacred filter, O shining god! O Agni, follow the resolve with resolve. With your shining filter, O Agni, spread within, may Brahman purify me with that. Pavamāna, the maker of good, with the sacred filter, the purifier—may he who is the purifier purify me. With both, O god Savitṛ, with the sacred filter and with the offering, we purify this Brahman. The Vaiśvadeva goddesses, the purifiers, may you accept us, O you who are to be honored. With that, may we, sitting together, be lords of wealth. May the lord of consciousness purify me with the unbroken sacred filter, with the rays of the sun. Whatever desire you have, purified by the filter, may the god Savitṛ, the lord of speech, purify me with the unbroken sacred filter, with the rays of the sun. Whatever desire you have, purified by the filter, may I attain that. This cow, speckled, has approached her mother and father a hundred times. May the god Savitṛ purify me with the unbroken sacred filter, with the rays of the sun. Whatever desire you have, purified by the filter, may I attain that. Om.
