Sūta said: The first foot has eight syllables, the second has twelve syllables, the third has sixteen, and the fourth has twenty syllables.

In the second foot, 'kalikā' has eight syllables; in the first, 'arkaja'; in the third, 'lavalī', and as before, eight syllables. This is called 'amṛtadhārā' when all four have eight syllables.

(Thus ends the section on 'upasthita' and 'pracupita'.) A foot with an uneven number of syllables, from five or six onwards, is not called a meter here; it is like the 'daśadharmā' and others in the gāthā form.
Sūta said: In the prastāra, the first is 'go', then 'laḥ', then 'paratulyo', then 'pūrvagaḥ'. If the middle is lost, in an even number, 'laḥ'; in half of an even, in an uneven, 'guruḥ'.

On the other side, fullness; on the other side, fullness; Meru would be laid out in a spread.

Sacrifice, study, and giving, as prescribed by scripture, are the eternal common dharma for Brahmins, Kṣatriyas, and Vaiśyas.
Pure officiating and study, and pure acceptance; these three ways of livelihood are declared by sages for those of the highest caste.
Living by the sword is for the king, and protecting beings; tending cattle, farming, and trade are remembered as the livelihood of the Vaiśya.
