आत्मानं चिन्तयेन्नित्यं कामरूपं मनोहरम् । प्लावयन्तं जगत्सर्वं सृष्टिसंहारकारकम् ॥ १,१९७.
One should always contemplate oneself as possessing a desirable form, enchanting, flooding the entire world, and acting as the agent of creation and destruction.
ज्वालामालाभिरुद्दीप्तं आब्रह्मभुवनान्तकम् । दशबाहुं चतुर्वक्त्रं पिङ्गाक्षं शूलपाणिनम् ॥ १,१९७.
Brilliantly blazing with garlands of flames, extending up to the realm of Brahma, ten-armed, four-faced, tawny-eyed, holding a spear in hand.
दंष्ट्राकरालमत्युग्रं त्रिनेत्रं शशिशेखरम् । भैरवन्तु स्मरेत्सिद्ध्यै गरुडं सर्वकर्मसु ॥ १,१९७.
Fierce with protruding fangs, exceedingly formidable, three-eyed, adorned with the moon, one should remember Bhairava for accomplishment, and Garuda in all undertakings.
नागानां नाशनार्थाय गरुडं भीमभीषणम् । पादौ पातालं संस्थौ च दिशः पक्षास्तु संश्रिताः ॥ १,१९७.
For the destruction of serpents, one should contemplate Garuda, terrifying and dreadful; his feet are established in the netherworld, and the directions are embraced by his wings.
सप्त स्वर्गा उरसि च ब्रह्माण्डं कण्ठमाश्रितम् । पूर्वादीशानपर्यन्तं शिरस्तस्य विचिन्तयेत् ॥ १,१९७.
The seven heavens are upon his chest, the cosmic egg is situated at his throat; from east to Īśāna, one should visualize his head.
सदाशिवशिखान्तस्थं शक्तित्रितयमेव च । परात्परं शिवं साक्षात्तार्क्ष्यं भुवननायकम् ॥ १,१९७.
Within the crest of Sadāśiva, and the threefold power, the supreme Shiva is directly manifest as Tārkṣya, the lord of the worlds.
त्रिनेत्रमुग्ररूपञ्च विषनागक्षयङ्करम् । ग्रसनं भीमवक्त्रं च गरुडं मन्त्रविग्रहम् ॥ १,१९७.
Three-eyed, of fierce form, causing the destruction of poison and serpents, with a devouring, dreadful mouth, Garuda, the embodiment of mantra.
कालाग्निमिव दीप्तं च चिन्तयेत्सर्वकर्मसु । एवं न्यासविधिं कृत्वा यद्यन्मनसि चिन्तयेत् ॥ १,१९७.
One should contemplate him as blazing like the fire of time in all undertakings; having performed this method of placement, whatever one thinks in the mind,
तत्तदेव भवेत्साध्यं नरो वै गरुडायते । प्रेता भूतास्तथा यक्षा नागा गन्धर्वराक्षसाः । दर्शनात्तस्य नश्यन्ति ज्वराश्चातुर्थिकादयः ॥ १,१९७.
That alone becomes attainable; the person becomes Garuda-like. Ghosts, spirits, yakshas, serpents, gandharvas, and rakshasas perish at his sight, as do fevers of the fourth type and others.
धन्वन्तरिरुवाच । एवं स गरुडं प्रोचे गरुडः कश्यपाय च । महेश्वरो यथा गौरीं प्राह विद्यां तथा शृणु ॥ १,१९७.
Dhanvantari said: Thus Garuda spoke, and Garuda addressed Kaśyapa, just as Maheśvara taught the knowledge to Gauri; listen likewise.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १९८ भैरव उवाच । नित्यक्लिन्नामथो वक्ष्ये त्रिपुरां भुक्तिमुक्तिदाम् । ओं ह्रीं आगच्छ देवि ऐं ह्रीं ह्रीं रेखाकारणम् । ओं ह्रीं क्लेदिनी भं नमः मदनक्षोभिणा तथा । ऐ यं यं क्रीं वा गुणरेखया ह्रीं मदनान्तरे च । ऐं ह्रीं ह्रीं च निरञ्जना वागति मदनान्तरेखे खनेत्रावलीति च । वेगवति महाप्रेतासनाय च पूजयेत् । ओं ह्रीं क्रैं नैं क्रैं नित्यं मदद्रवे क्रीं नमः । ऐं ह्रीं त्रिपुरायै नमः । ओं ह्रीं क्रीं पश्चिमवक्त्रं ओं ऐं ह्रीं ह्रीं च तथोत्तरम् । ऐं ह्रीं दक्षिणमूर्ध्वंवक्त्रं तु पश्चिमम् । ओं ह्रीं पाशाय क्रीं अङ्कुशाय ऐं कपालाय नमः । आद्यं भयं ऐं ह्रीं च तथा शिरः तथा शिखायै कवचे । ऐं ह्रीं क्रीं अस्त्रायफट् ॥ १,१९८.
Bhairava said: Now I will explain the ever-moist Tripura, bestower of enjoyment and liberation. 'Om hrīṃ, come, O goddess, aiṃ hrīṃ hrīṃ, for the formation of the line. Om hrīṃ, kledinī, bhaṃ, salutations, also to Madana-kṣobhinī. Ai, yaṃ yaṃ, krīṃ, or by the line of qualities, hrīṃ, and within Madana. Aiṃ hrīṃ hrīṃ, and Nirañjanā, Vāgati, within the Madana line, and Khanetra-avalīti. To Vegavatī, for the seat of the great spirit, one should worship. Om hrīṃ, kraiṃ, naiṃ, kraiṃ, always for the intoxication of Madana, krīṃ, salutations. Aiṃ hrīṃ, salutations to Tripura. Om hrīṃ krīṃ, for the western face, om aiṃ hrīṃ hrīṃ, and likewise for the northern. Aiṃ hrīṃ, for the southern and upper face, and the western. Om hrīṃ, for the noose, krīṃ, for the goad, aiṃ, for the skull, salutations. The first fear, aiṃ hrīṃ, and likewise for the head, and for the crest, for the armor. Aiṃ hrīṃ krīṃ, for the missile, phat.'
पूर्वे कामरूपाय असिताङ्गाय भैरवाय नमो ब्रह्माण्यै । दक्षिणे चैव कन्दाय वै नमः रुरुभैरवाय माहेश्वर्या वा आवाहयेत् ॥ १,१९८.
In the east, to Kāmarūpa, to Asitāṅga, to Bhairava, salutations to Brahmāṇī; in the south, to Kanda, salutations to Ruru Bhairava, and to Māheśvarī, one should invoke.
तथा पश्चिमे चण्डाय वै नमः । कौमार्यै चोत्तरे चोल्काय क्रोधाय नमः वैष्णव्यै ॥ १,१९८.
Likewise, in the west, to Caṇḍa, salutations; in the north, to Colka, to Krodha, salutations, and to Vaiṣṇavī.
अग्निकोणे अघोरायोन्मत्तभैरवायेति वाराह्यै । रक्षः कोणे साराय कपालिने भैरवाय माहेन्द्र्यै ॥ १,१९८.
In the southeast, to Aghorā, to Unmatta Bhairava, and to Vārāhī; in the northwest, to Sārā, to Kapālin Bhairava, and to Māhendrī.
वायुकोणे जालन्धराय भीषणाय भैरवाय चामुण्डायै । ईशकोणके वटुकाय संहारञ्चण्डिकाञ्च प्रपूजयेत् ॥ १,१९८.
In the northwest corner, one should worship Jalandhara, the Terrible One, Bhairava, and Camunda; in the northeast corner, Vatuka and Samhara, and Candika as well.
रतिप्रीतिकामदेवान्पञ्चबाणान्यजेदथ । ध्यानार्चनाज्जप्यहोमाद्देवी सिद्धा च सर्वदा ॥ १,१९८.
Then, one should worship Rati, Priti, Kama, and the Five Arrows; through meditation, worship, recitation, and offerings, the goddess is always accomplished.
नित्या च त्रिपुरा व्याधिं हन्याज्ज्वालामुखीक्रमात् । ज्वालामुखीक्रमं वक्ष्ये सा पूज्या मध्यतः शुभा ॥ १,१९८.
Nitya and Tripura destroy disease by the sequence of Jvalamukhi; I will explain the sequence of Jvalamukhi, who is auspicious and should be worshipped in the center.
नित्यारुणा मदनातुरा महामोहा प्रकृत्यपि । महेन्द्राणी च कलनाकर्षिणी भारती तथा ॥ १,१९८.
Nityaruna, overcome by desire, is by nature great delusion; also Mahendrani, Kalanakarshini, and Bharati.
ब्रह्माणी चैव माहेशी कौमारी वैष्णवी तथा । वाराही चैव माहेन्द्री चामुण्डा चापराजिता ॥ १,१९८.
Likewise Brahmani, Mahesi, Kaumari, and Vaisnavi; also Varahi, Mahendri, Camunda, and Aparajita.
विजया चाजिता चैवमोहिनी त्वरिता तथा । स्तम्भिनी जृम्भिणी पूज्या कालिका पद्मबाह्यतः । ज्वालामुखीक्रमं चार्चेद्विषादिहरणं भवेत् ॥ १,१९८.
Vijaya, Ajita, Mohini, and Tvarita as well; Stambhini and Jrimbhini are to be worshipped, and Kalika outside the lotus; by worshipping in the sequence of Jvalamukhi, poison and the like are removed.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १९९ भैरव उवाच । अथ चूडामणिं वक्ष्ये शुभाशुभविशुद्धये । सूर्यं देवीं गणं सोम स्मृत्वा तु विलिखेन्नरः ॥ १,१९९.
Bhairava said: Now I will explain the crest-jewel for the purification of good and evil; remembering the Sun, the Goddess, the host, and Soma, a person should inscribe it.
त्रिरेखा गोमूर्त्रिकाभा अथवा प्रश्रवाक्यतः । दिशस्थानप्रसूतो वा ध्वजादीन्गणयेत्क्रमात् ॥ १,१९९.
With three lines, resembling cow urine, or from a flowing stream; or produced at the place of the directions, one should count banners and the like in order.
ध्वजो धूमोऽथ सिंहश्च श्वा वृषः खरदन्तिनौ । ध्वाङ्क्षश्च अष्टमो ज्ञेयो नाम मन्त्रैश्च तान्न्यसेत् ॥ १,१९९.
The banner, smoke, lion, dog, bull, donkey, elephant, and vulture—these eight are to be known by name, and one should install them with mantras.
ध्वजस्थाने ध्वजं दृष्ट्वा राज्यचिन्ताधनादिकम् । ध्वजस्थाने स्थितो धूम्रो धातुचिन्ता च लाभकृत् ॥ १,१९९.
Seeing a banner in the place of the banner indicates thoughts of sovereignty, wealth, and the like; if smoke is present at the banner's place, it brings thoughts of metals and gain.
ध्वजस्थाने स्थिते सिंहे धनलाभादिकं भवेत् । स्थिते शुनिध्वजस्थाने दासीचिन्तासुखादिकम् ॥ १,१९९.
If a lion is present at the banner's place, it brings gain of wealth and the like; if a dog is present at the banner's place, it brings thoughts of servants, happiness, and so on.
ध्वजस्थाने वृषं दृष्ट्वा स्थानचिन्ता च लाभकम् । ध्वजस्थाने खरं दृष्ट्वा दुः खक्लेशादिकं भवेत् ॥ १,१९९.
Seeing a bull at the banner's place brings thoughts of position and gain; seeing a donkey at the banner's place brings suffering, distress, and the like.
ध्वजस्थाने गजं दृष्ट्वा स्थानचिन्ताजयादिकम् । ध्वजस्थाने तथा ध्वाङ्क्षे क्लेशचिन्ता धनक्षयः ॥ १,१९९.
Seeing an elephant at the banner's place brings thoughts of position, victory, and the like; likewise, if a vulture is at the banner's place, it brings distress and loss of wealth.
धूम्रस्थाने ध्वजं दृष्ट्वा पूर्वं दुः खं ततो धनम् । धूम्रे धूम्रं तथा दृष्ट्वा कलिदुः खादिकं भवेत् ॥ १,१९९.
Seeing a banner at the place of smoke first brings suffering, then wealth; likewise, seeing smoke at the place of smoke brings quarrels and suffering.
धूम्रस्थाने स्थिते सिंहे मनश्चिन्ताधनादिकम् । धूम्रस्थाने शुनि स्थिते जयलाभादिकं भवेत् ॥ १,१९९.
If a lion is present at the place of smoke, it brings thoughts of the mind, wealth, and so on; if a dog is present at the place of smoke, it brings victory, gain, and the like.
धूम्रस्थाने वृषं दृष्ट्वा नारीगोऽश्वधनादिकम् । धूम्रस्थाने खरं दृष्ट्वा व्याधिश्चापि धनक्षयः ॥ १,१९९.
Seeing a bull at the place of smoke brings women, horses, wealth, and so on; seeing a donkey at the place of smoke brings disease and loss of wealth.
