सर्वानरीन्नाशयतु रामः परशुना मम । रक्षोघ्नस्तु दशरथिः पातु नित्यं महाभुजः ॥ १,१९४.
May Rama destroy all my enemies with his axe; may Dasharathi, the mighty-armed, always protect me, slayer of demons.
शत्रीन्हलेन मे हन्याद्रामो यादवनन्दनः । प्रलम्बकेशिचाणूरपूतनाकंसनाशनः । कृष्णस्य यो बालभावः स मे कामान्प्रयच्छतु ॥ १,१९४.
May Rama, delight of the Yadavas, strike down my foes with his plough; may he who destroyed Pralamba, Kesi, Chanura, Putana, and Kamsa, grant me the desires that Krishna had in his childhood.
अन्धकारतमोघोरं पुरुषं कृष्णषिङ्गलम् । पश्यामि भयसन्त्रस्तः पाशहस्तमिवान्तकम् ॥ १,१९४.
I see a man, dreadful with darkness and gloom, Krishna-shingala by name, and, terrified by fear, I see him like Death holding a noose.
ततोऽहं पुण्डरीकाक्षमच्युतं शरणं गतः । धन्योऽहं निर्भयो नित्यं यस्य मे भगवान्हरिः ॥ १,१९४.
Therefore, I have taken refuge in Achyuta, the lotus-eyed; I am blessed and forever fearless, for Hari, the Blessed Lord, is mine.
ध्यात्वा नारायणं देवं सर्वोपद्रवनाशनम् । वैष्णवं कवचं बद्ध्वा विचरामि महीतले ॥ १,१९४.
Having meditated on Lord Nārāyaṇa, the destroyer of all calamities, and having bound the Vaiṣṇava armor, I move about upon the earth.
अप्रधृष्योऽस्मि भूतानां सर्वदेवमयो ह्यहम् । स्मरणाद्देवदेवस्य विष्णोरमिततेजसः ॥ १,१९४.
I am invulnerable to all beings, for I am composed of all the gods, by the remembrance of Viṣṇu, the God of gods, of boundless radiance.
सिद्धिर्भवतु मे नित्यं यथामन्त्रमुदाहृतम् । यो मां पश्यति चक्षुर्भ्यां यञ्चः पश्यामि चक्षुषा । सर्वेषां पापदुष्टानां विष्णुर्बध्नातु चक्षुषी ॥ १,१९४.
May success always be mine as the mantra has been recited; whoever looks upon me with their eyes, and whomever I see with my eyes—may Viṣṇu bind the sight of all those corrupted by sin.
वासुदेवस्य यच्चक्रं तस्य चक्रस्य ये त्वराः । ते हि च्छिन्दन्तु पापान्मे मम हिंसन्तु हिंसकान् ॥ १,१९४.
The spokes of the discus of Vāsudeva—may they cut down my sins and strike down those who seek to harm me.
राक्षसेषु पिशाचेषु कान्तारेष्वटवीषु च । विवादे राजमार्गेषु द्यूतेषु कलहेषु च ॥ १,१९४.
Among rākṣasas, piśācas, in wildernesses and forests, in disputes, on royal roads, in gambling, and in quarrels—
नदीसन्तारणे घोरे संप्राप्ते प्राणसंशये । अग्निचौरनिपातेषु सर्वग्रहनिवारणे ॥ १,१९४.
When crossing terrifying rivers, when life is in danger, in fires, in attacks by thieves, and for warding off all planetary afflictions—
विद्युत्सर्पविषोद्वेगे रोगे वै विघ्नसङ्कटे । जप्यमेतज्जपेन्नित्यं शरीरे भयमागते ॥ १,१९४.
In the agitation of lightning, serpents, and poison, in disease, in obstacles and distress—one should recite this always, whenever fear arises in the body.
अयं भगवतो मन्त्रो मन्त्राणां परमो महान् । विख्यातं कवचं गुह्यं सर्पपापप्रणाशनम् । स्वमायाकृतिनिर्माणं कल्पान्तगहनं महत् ॥ १,१९४.
This is the mantra of the Blessed Lord, supreme and great among mantras, the renowned and secret armor, the destroyer of snake-related sins, fashioned by his own māyā, vast as the depths at the end of an age.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १९५ हरिरुवाच । सल्वकामप्रदां विद्यां सप्तरात्रेण तां शृणु । नमस्तुभ्यं भगवते वासुदेवाय धीमहि ॥ १,१९५.
Hari said: Hear now that knowledge which grants all desires within seven nights. Salutations to you, O Blessed Vāsudeva; we contemplate you.
प्रद्युम्नायानिरुद्धाय नमः सङ्गर्षणाय च । नमो विज्ञानमात्राय परमानन्दमूर्तये ॥ १,१९५.
Salutations to Pradyumna, to Aniruddha, and to Saṅkarṣaṇa; salutations to the one who is pure knowledge, the embodiment of supreme bliss.
आत्मारामाय शान्ताय निवृत्तद्वैतदृष्टये । त्वद्रूपाणि च सर्वाणि तस्मात्तुभ्यं नमो नमः ॥ १,१९५.
To the self-delighting, peaceful one, whose vision is free from duality—salutations again and again to you, in whom all your forms reside.
हृषीकेशाय महते नमस्तेऽनन्तमूर्तये । यस्मिन्निदं यतश्चैतत्तिष्ठत्यग्रेऽपि जायते ॥ १,१९५.
Salutations to Hṛṣīkeśa, the great one, of infinite forms, in whom this universe exists, from whom it arises, and in whom it stands even at the beginning.
मृन्मयीं वहसि क्षोणीं तस्मै ते ब्रह्मणे नमः । यन्न स्पृशन्ति न विदुः मनोबुद्धीन्द्रियासवः । अन्तर्बहिस्त्वं चरसि व्योमतुल्यं नमाम्यहम् ॥ १,१९५.
You bear the earth made of clay—salutations to you, O Brahman. Whom neither mind, intellect, senses, nor vital airs touch or know; you move within and without, like the sky—I bow to you.
ओं नमो भगवते महापुराषाय महाभूतपतये सकलसत्त्वभाविव्रीडनिकरकमलरेणूत्पलनिभधर्माख्यविद्यया? चरणारविन्दयुगल परमेष्ठिन्नमस्ते । अवाप विद्याधरतां चित्रकेतोश्च विद्यया ॥ १,१९५.
Oṃ, salutations to the Blessed Great Person, Lord of the great elements, whose lotus feet are worshipped by the dust of all living beings, whose nature is like the pollen of lotuses, whose knowledge is renowned—salutations to your pair of lotus feet, O Supreme One. By this knowledge, Citraketu attained the status of a Vidyādhara.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १९६ हरिरुवाच । अवाप जप्त्वा चेन्द्रत्वं विष्णुधर्माख्यविद्यया । सर्वाञ्छत्रून्विनिर्जित्य ताञ्च वक्ष्ये महेश्वर ॥ १,१९६.
Hari said: By reciting this, one attains the status of Indra through the knowledge called Viṣṇudharma, having conquered all enemies; I shall now declare this, O Maheśvara.
पादयोर्जानुनोरूर्वोरुदरे हृद्यथोरसि । मुखे शिरस्यानुपूर्वमोङ्का रादीनि विन्यसेत् ॥ १,१९६.
On the feet, knees, thighs, abdomen, heart, chest, mouth, and head, in order, one should place the syllables beginning with Oṃ.
नमो नारायणायेति विपर्यासमथापि च । करन्यासं ततः कुर्याद्द्वादक्षरविद्यया ॥ १,१९६.
Saying 'Salutations to Nārāyaṇa,' and then in reverse order as well, one should perform the ritual of placing the mantra on the hands, using the twelve-syllable mantra.
प्रणवादियकारान्तमङ्गुल्यं गुष्ठपर्वसु । न्यसेद्धृदय ओङ्कारं मनुं मूर्ध्नि समस्तकम् ॥ १,१९६.
Place the syllables from 'praṇava' to 'ya' at the joints of the thumb; install the syllable 'oṃ' at the heart, and the mantra upon the crown of the head.
ओङ्कारन्तु भ्रुवोर्मध्ये शिकानेत्रादिमूर्धतः । ओं विष्णवे इति इमं मन्त्रन्यासमुदीरयेत् ॥ १,१९६.
Let 'oṃ' be placed between the eyebrows, at the crest, eyes, and the top of the head; recite this mantra-nyāsa: 'oṃ for Viṣṇu.'
आत्मानं परमं ध्यायेच्छेषं यच्छक्तिभिर्युतम् । मम रक्षां हरिः कुर्यान्मत्स्यमूर्तिर्जलेऽवतु ॥ १,१९६.
Meditate upon the supreme Self, endowed with all powers; may Hari protect me, may the form of the fish guard me in water.
त्रिविक्रमस्तथाकाशे स्थले रक्षतु वामनः । अटव्यां नरसिंहस्तु रामो रक्षतु पर्वते ॥ १,१९६.
Let Trivikrama protect in the sky, Vāmana on land; Narasiṃha in the forest, and Rāma on the mountain.
भूमौ रक्षतु वाराहौ व्योम्नि नारायणोऽवतु । कर्मबन्धाच्च कपिलो दत्तो रोगाच्च रक्षतु ॥ १,१९६.
Let Varāha protect on earth, Nārāyaṇa in the sky; let Kapila free from bondage, Dattātreya protect from disease.
हयग्रीवो देवताभ्यः कुमारो मकरध्वजात् । नारदोऽन्यार्चनाद्देवः कूर्मो वै नैरृते सदा ॥ १,१९६.
Hayagrīva from the deities, Kumāra from the god of love; Nārada from other worships, and Kūrma always in the southwest.
धन्वन्तीरश्चापथ्याच्च नागः क्रोधवशात्किल । यज्ञो रोगात्समस्ताच्च व्यासोऽज्ञानाच्च रक्षतु ॥ १,१९६.
Let Dhanvantari protect from unwholesome things, Nāga from anger; let Yajña guard from disease and all troubles, Vyāsa from ignorance.
बुद्धः पाषण्डसंघातात्कल्की रक्षतु कल्मषात् । पायान्मध्यन्दिने विष्णुः प्रातर्नारायणोऽवतु ॥ १,१९६.
Let Buddha protect from heretical groups, Kalki from impurity; Viṣṇu guard at midday, Nārāyaṇa in the morning.
अनाद्यन्त ! जगद्बीज ! पद्मनाभ ! नमोऽस्तु ते । ओं कालाय स्वाहा । ओं कालपुरुषाय स्वाहा । ओं कृष्णाय स्वाहा । ओं कृष्णरूपाय स्वाहा । ओं चण्डाय स्वाहा । ओं चण्डरूपाय स्वाहा । ओं प्रचण्डाय स्वाहा । ओं प्रचणरूपाय स्वाहा । ओं सर्वाय स्वाहा । ओं सर्वरूपाय स्वाहा । ओं नमो भुवनेशाय त्रिलोकधात्रे इह विटि सिविटि सिविटि स्वाहा। ओं नमः अयोखेतये ये ये संज्ञापय दैत्यदानवयक्षराक्षसभूतपिशाचकूष्माण्डान्तापस्मारकच्छर्दनदुद्धर्राणामेकाहिकद्व्याहिकत्र्याहिकचातुर्थिकमौहूर्तिकदिनज्वररात्रिज्वरसन्ध्याज्वरसर्वज्वरादीनां लूताकीटकण्टकपूतनाभुजङ्गस्थावरजङ्गमविषादी नामिदं शरीरं मम पथ्यं त्वं कुरु स्फुट स्फुट स्फुट प्रकोट लफट विकटदंष्ट्र पूर्वतो रक्षतु ओं है है है है दिनकरसहस्रकालसमाहतो जय पश्चिमतो रक्ष ओं निवि निवि प्रदीप्तज्वलनज्वालाकार महाकपिल उत्तरतो रक्ष ओं विलि विलि मिलि मिलि गरुडि गरुडि गौरीगान्धारीविषमोहविषमविषमां महोहयतु स्वाहा दक्षिणतो रक्ष मां पश्य सर्वभूतभयोपद्रवेभ्यो रक्ष रक्ष जय जय विजय तेन हीयते रिपुत्रासाहङ्कृतवाद्यतो भयनुदभयतोऽभयं दिशतुच्युतं । तदुदरमखिलं विशन्तु युगपरिवर्तसहस्रसंख्येयोऽस्तंहंसमिव प्रविशन्ति रश्मयः । वासुदेवसङ्कर्षणप्रद्युम्नाश्चानिरुद्धकः । सर्वज्वरान्ममघ्नन्तु विष्णुर्नारायणो हरिः ॥ १,१९४.
O beginningless and endless one! Seed of the universe! Padmanābha! Salutations to you. Oṃ, to Time, svāhā! Oṃ, to the Person of Time, svāhā! Oṃ, to Kṛṣṇa, svāhā! Oṃ, to the form of Kṛṣṇa, svāhā! Oṃ, to the Fierce One, svāhā! Oṃ, to the Fierce Form, svāhā! Oṃ, to the Most Fierce, svāhā! Oṃ, to the Most Fierce Form, svāhā! Oṃ, to the All, svāhā! Oṃ, to the All-Form, svāhā! Oṃ, obeisance to the Lord of the worlds, sustainer of the three worlds—here, viṭi siviṭi siviṭi, svāhā! Oṃ, obeisance to the Lord of the iron plough—ye ye, make known! Against demons, daityas, dānavas, yakṣas, rākṣasas, ghosts, piśācas, kūṣmāṇḍas, epilepsy, vomiting, naduddharrāṇa, one-day, two-day, three-day, four-day, momentary, daily, night, and twilight fevers, all fevers, lūtā, insects, thorns, Pūtanā, serpents, immobile and mobile poisons—may this body of mine be made wholesome by you. Burst, burst, burst, break open, with dreadful fangs—protect me in the east. Oṃ, hai hai hai hai, struck by the thousand-sunned Time—victory! Protect me in the west. Oṃ, nivi nivi, blazing, flaming, in the form of great Kapila—protect me in the north. Oṃ, vili vili, mili mili, Garuḍi, Garuḍi, Gaurī, Gāndhārī, poison, delusion, poison, poison—may it be destroyed, svāhā! Protect me in the south. See me, protect me from all dangers and fears from beings—protect, protect, victory, victory, triumph! Thus, the fear and pride of enemies is diminished, and fear is dispelled, granting fearlessness. Let all rays, countless as the thousands of revolutions of ages, enter the entire abdomen as swans enter. May Vāsudeva, Saṅkarṣaṇa, Pradyumna, and Aniruddha—may Viṣṇu, Nārāyaṇa, Hari—destroy all fevers for me.
