कूर्ममत्स्याश्वमहिषगोशृगालाश्च वानराः । विडालबर्हिकाकाश्च वराहोलूककुक्कुटाः ॥ १,१९३.
Tortoise, fish, horse, buffalo, cow, jackal, monkey, cat, peacock, crow, boar, owl, and rooster—
हंस एषाञ्च विण्मूत्रं मांसं वा रोम शोणितम् । धूपं दद्याज्ज्वरार्तेभ्य उन्मत्तेभ्यश्च शान्तये ॥ १,१९३.
The excreta, urine, flesh, hair, or blood of these, when used as incense, should be offered to those afflicted with fever or madness for their pacification.
एतान्यौषधजातानि कथितानि उमापते । निघ्नन्ति ताश्च रोगांश्च वृक्षमिन्द्राशनिर्यथा ॥ १,१९३.
O Lord of Uma, these medicinal substances have been described; they destroy diseases just as Indra's thunderbolt destroys trees.
औषधंभगवान्विष्णुः संस्मृतो रोगनुद्भवेत् । ध्यातोऽर्चितः स्तुतो वापि नात्र कार्या विचारणा ॥ १,१९३.
When the blessed Vishnu is remembered as medicine, he removes diseases; whether meditated upon, worshipped, or praised, there is no need for further deliberation.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १९४ हरिरुवाच । सर्वव्याधिहरं वक्ष्ये वैष्णवं कवचं शुभम् । येन रक्षा कृता शम्भोर्दैत्यान्क्षपयतः पुरा ॥ १,१९४.
Hari said: I shall declare the auspicious Vaishnava armor, which removes all diseases, by which Shiva was once protected when he destroyed the demons.
प्रणम्य देवमीशानमजं नित्यमनामयम् । देवं सर्वेश्वरं विष्णुं सर्वव्यापिनमव्ययम् ॥ १,१९४.
Having bowed to the god, the Lord, the unborn, the ever-healthy, to Vishnu, the Lord of all, the all-pervading, the imperishable—
बध्नाम्यहं प्रतिसरं नमस्कृत्य जनार्दनम् । अमोघाप्रतिमं सर्वं सर्वदुः खनिवारणम् ॥ १,१९४.
I bind this protective thread, having bowed to Janardana, which is unfailing, incomparable in every way, and removes all suffering.
विष्णुर्मामग्रतः पातु कृष्णो रक्षतु पृष्ठतः । हरिर्मे रक्षतु शिरो हृदयञ्च जनार्दनः ॥ १,१९४.
May Vishnu protect me in front, Krishna guard my back, Hari protect my head, and Janardana my heart.
मनो मम हृषीकेशो जिह्वां रक्षतु केशवः । प्रातु नेत्रे वासुदेवः श्रोत्रे सङ्कर्षणो विभुः ॥ १,१९४.
May Hrishikesha protect my mind, Kesava my tongue, Vasudeva my eyes at dawn, and Sankarshana, the mighty one, my ears.
प्रद्युम्नः पातु मे घ्राणमनिरुद्धस्तु चर्म च । वनमाली गलस्यान्तं श्रीवत्सो रक्षतामधः ॥ १,१९४.
May Pradyumna protect my nose, and Aniruddha my skin; may Vanamali guard the end of my throat, and Shrivatsa protect below.
पार्श्वं रक्षतु मे चक्रं वामं दैत्यनिवारणम् । दक्षिणन्तु गदा देवी सर्वासुरनिवारिणी ॥ १,१९४.
May the discus protect my left side, repelling demons; may the goddess Gada protect my right, warding off all asuras.
उदरं मुसलं पातु पृष्ठं मे पातु लाङ्गलम् । ऊर्ध्वं रक्षतु मे शार्ङ्गं जङ्घे रक्षतु नन्दकः ॥ १,१९४.
May the mace protect my abdomen, the plough my back; may the bow Sharnga protect above, and Nandaka guard my shanks.
पार्ष्णो रक्षतु शङ्खश्च पद्मं मे चरणावुभौ । सर्वकार्यार्थसिद्ध्यर्थं पातु मां गरुडः सदा ॥ १,१९४.
May the conch protect my heels, and the lotus both my feet; may Garuda always protect me for the accomplishment of all undertakings.
वराहो रक्षतु जले विषमेषु च वामनः । अटव्यां नरसिंहश्च सर्वतः पातु केशवः ॥ १,१९४.
May Varaha protect me in water, and Vamana in difficult places; may Narasimha guard me in the forest, and Kesava protect me on all sides.
हिरण्यगर्भो भगवान्हिरण्यं मे प्रयच्छतु । सांख्याचार्यस्तु कपिलो धातुसाम्यं करोतु मे ॥ १,१९४.
May the blessed Hiranyagarbha grant me gold; may Kapila, the teacher of Samkhya, bring balance to my bodily elements.
श्वेतद्वीपनिवासी च श्वेतद्वीपं नयत्वजः । सर्वान्सूदयतां शत्रून्मधुकैटभमर्दनः ॥ १,१९४.
May the resident of Shvetadvipa lead me to Shvetadvipa; may the slayer of Madhu and Kaitabha destroy all my enemies.
सदाकर्षतु विष्णुश्च किल्बिषं मम विग्रहात् । हंसो मत्स्यस्तथा कूर्मः पातु मां सर्वतोदिशम् ॥ १,१९४.
May Vishnu always draw out sin from my body; may Hamsa, Matsya, and Kurma protect me in every direction.
त्रिविक्रमस्तु मे देवः सर्वपापानि कृन्ततु । तथा नारायणो देवो बुद्धिं पालयतां मम ॥ १,१९४.
May the god Trivikrama cut away all my sins; and may the god Narayana preserve my intellect.
शेषो मे निर्मलं ज्ञानं करोत्वज्ञाननाशनम् । वडवामुखो नाशयतां कल्मषं यत्कृतं मया ॥ १,१९४.
May Shesha grant me pure knowledge, destroying ignorance; may Vadavamukha annihilate the faults I have committed.
पद्भ्यां ददातु परमं सुखं मूर्ध्नि मम प्रभुः । दत्तात्रेयः प्रकुरुतां सपुत्रपशुबान्धवम् ॥ १,१९४.
May the Lord grant supreme happiness to my feet and head; may Dattatreya provide me with sons, cattle, and relatives.
सर्वानरीन्नाशयतु रामः परशुना मम । रक्षोघ्नस्तु दशरथिः पातु नित्यं महाभुजः ॥ १,१९४.
May Rama destroy all my enemies with his axe; may Dasharathi, the mighty-armed, always protect me, slayer of demons.
शत्रीन्हलेन मे हन्याद्रामो यादवनन्दनः । प्रलम्बकेशिचाणूरपूतनाकंसनाशनः । कृष्णस्य यो बालभावः स मे कामान्प्रयच्छतु ॥ १,१९४.
May Rama, delight of the Yadavas, strike down my foes with his plough; may he who destroyed Pralamba, Kesi, Chanura, Putana, and Kamsa, grant me the desires that Krishna had in his childhood.
अन्धकारतमोघोरं पुरुषं कृष्णषिङ्गलम् । पश्यामि भयसन्त्रस्तः पाशहस्तमिवान्तकम् ॥ १,१९४.
I see a man, dreadful with darkness and gloom, Krishna-shingala by name, and, terrified by fear, I see him like Death holding a noose.
ततोऽहं पुण्डरीकाक्षमच्युतं शरणं गतः । धन्योऽहं निर्भयो नित्यं यस्य मे भगवान्हरिः ॥ १,१९४.
Therefore, I have taken refuge in Achyuta, the lotus-eyed; I am blessed and forever fearless, for Hari, the Blessed Lord, is mine.
ध्यात्वा नारायणं देवं सर्वोपद्रवनाशनम् । वैष्णवं कवचं बद्ध्वा विचरामि महीतले ॥ १,१९४.
Having meditated on Lord Nārāyaṇa, the destroyer of all calamities, and having bound the Vaiṣṇava armor, I move about upon the earth.
अप्रधृष्योऽस्मि भूतानां सर्वदेवमयो ह्यहम् । स्मरणाद्देवदेवस्य विष्णोरमिततेजसः ॥ १,१९४.
I am invulnerable to all beings, for I am composed of all the gods, by the remembrance of Viṣṇu, the God of gods, of boundless radiance.
सिद्धिर्भवतु मे नित्यं यथामन्त्रमुदाहृतम् । यो मां पश्यति चक्षुर्भ्यां यञ्चः पश्यामि चक्षुषा । सर्वेषां पापदुष्टानां विष्णुर्बध्नातु चक्षुषी ॥ १,१९४.
May success always be mine as the mantra has been recited; whoever looks upon me with their eyes, and whomever I see with my eyes—may Viṣṇu bind the sight of all those corrupted by sin.
वासुदेवस्य यच्चक्रं तस्य चक्रस्य ये त्वराः । ते हि च्छिन्दन्तु पापान्मे मम हिंसन्तु हिंसकान् ॥ १,१९४.
The spokes of the discus of Vāsudeva—may they cut down my sins and strike down those who seek to harm me.
राक्षसेषु पिशाचेषु कान्तारेष्वटवीषु च । विवादे राजमार्गेषु द्यूतेषु कलहेषु च ॥ १,१९४.
Among rākṣasas, piśācas, in wildernesses and forests, in disputes, on royal roads, in gambling, and in quarrels—
नदीसन्तारणे घोरे संप्राप्ते प्राणसंशये । अग्निचौरनिपातेषु सर्वग्रहनिवारणे ॥ १,१९४.
When crossing terrifying rivers, when life is in danger, in fires, in attacks by thieves, and for warding off all planetary afflictions—
