Garuda Purana

काञ्जिकस्याढकं दत्त्वा पिष्टान्येतानि दापयेत् । पुनर्नवा गोक्षुरकं सैन्धवं त्र्यूषणं वचा ॥ १,१९२.

By adding one adhaka of sour gruel and these pounded ingredients—punarnava, gokshura, rock salt, tryushana, and vacha—

लवणं सुरदारुश्च मञ्जिष्ठा कण्टकारिका । नस्यात्पानाद्धरत्येव कर्णशूलं सुदारुणम् ॥ १,१९२.

Salt, suradaru, manjistha, and kantakarika—by nasal application or drinking, these remove even severe ear pain.

बाधिर्यं सर्वरोगांश्च ह्यभ्यङ्गाच्च महेश्वर । पलद्वयं सैन्धवञ्च शुण्ठी चित्रकपञ्चकम् ॥ १,१९२.

By anointing with two palas of rock salt, shunthi, and the five kinds of chitraka, O Maheshvara, deafness and all diseases are cured.

सौवीरपञ्चप्रस्थं च तैलप्रस्थं पचेत्ततः । असृग्दरस्वरप्लीहासर्ववातविकारनुत् ॥ १,१९२.

Five prasthas of sauvira and one prastha of oil should then be cooked together; this cures bleeding, abnormal taste, spleen disorders, and all vata ailments.

उदुम्बरं वटं प्लक्षं जम्बूद्वयमथार्जुनम् । पिप्पली च कदम्बञ्च पलाशं लोध्रतिन्दुकम् ॥ १,१९२.

Udumbara, vata, plaksha, two jambus, arjuna, pippali, kadamba, palasha, lodhra, and tinduka—

मधूकमाम्रसर्जञ्च बदरं पद्मकेशरम् । शिरीषबीजङ्कतकमेतत्क्वाथेन साधितम् । तैलं हन्ति व्रणांल्लेपाच्चिरकालभवानपि ॥ १,१९२.

Madhuka, amra, sarja, badara, padmaka flower, shirisha seed, and kataka—when prepared as a decoction and used with oil, it heals even long-standing wounds by application.

श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १९३ हरिरुवाच । पलाण्डुजीरके कुष्ठमश्वगन्धाजमोदकम् । वचा त्रिकटुकञ्चैव लवणं चूर्णमुत्तमम् ॥ १,१९३.

Hari said: Onion, cumin, kushta, ashwagandha, ajamoda, vacha, trikatuka, and the best salt powder—

ब्राह्मीरसैर्भावितञ्च सर्पिर्मधुसमन्वितम् । सप्ताहं भक्षितं कुर्यान्निर्मलाञ्च मतिं पराम् ॥ १,१९३.

One should consume clarified butter infused with Brahmi juice and mixed with honey for seven days; this brings purity and excellent clarity of mind.

सिद्धार्थकं वचा हिङ्गु करञ्जं देवदारु च । मञ्जिष्ठा त्रिफला विश्वं शिरीषो रजनीद्वयम् ॥ १,१९३.

Siddharthaka, vacha, hing, karanja, devadaru, manjistha, triphala, vishva, shirisha, and both types of turmeric—

प्रियङ्गुनिम्बत्रिक्रटु गोमूत्रेणैव घर्षितम् । नसयमालेपनञ्चैव तथा चोद्वर्तनं हितम् ॥ १,१९३.

Priyangu, neem, trikatu, all ground together with cow's urine, are beneficial as nasal application, ointment, and also as a body rub.

अपस्मारविषोन्मादशोषालक्ष्मीज्वरापहम् । भूतेभ्यश्चभयं हन्ति राजद्वारेषु योजनात् ॥ १,१९३.

This remedy removes epilepsy, poisoning, insanity, wasting diseases, misfortune, and fever; it also dispels fear from spirits when placed at palace gates.

निम्बं कुष्ठं हरिद्रे द्वे शिग्रु सर्षपजं तथा । देवदारु पटोलञ्च धान्यं तक्रेण घर्षितम् ॥ १,१९३.

Neem, kushta, two kinds of turmeric, shigru, mustard, devadaru, patola, and dhanya, all ground with buttermilk—

देहं तैलाक्त गात्रं वै नयेदुद्वर्तनेन च । पामाः कुष्ठानि नश्येयुः कण्डूं हन्ति च निश्चितम् ॥ १,१९३.

When the body, anointed with oil, is rubbed with this mixture, skin diseases and leprosy are destroyed, and itching is certainly alleviated.

सामुद्रं सैन्धवं क्षारो राजिका लवणं विडम् । कटुलोहरजश्चैवं त्रिवृत्सूरणकं समम् । दधिगोमूत्रपयसा मन्दपावकपाचितम् ॥ १,१९३.

Rock salt, saindhava, alkali, black mustard, common salt, vid, iron rust, trivrit, and suran, all cooked together with curd, cow's urine, and milk over a gentle fire—

बलाग्निवर्धकं चूर्णं पिबेदुष्णेन वारिणा । जीर्णेऽजीर्णे तु भुञ्जति मांस्यादिघृतमुत्तमम् ॥ १,१९३.

One should drink this powder, which increases strength and digestive fire, with warm water; whether digestion is complete or not, the best meats and ghee may be eaten.

नाभिशूलं मूत्रशूलं गुल्मप्लीहभवञ्च यत् । सर्वशूलहरं चूर्णं जठरानलदीपनम् । परिणामसमुत्थस्य शूलस्य च हितं परम् ॥ १,१९३.

This powder removes all types of pain arising in the navel, urinary tract, abdominal masses, and spleen; it stimulates the digestive fire and is especially beneficial for pain caused by indigestion.

अभयामलकं द्राक्षा पिप्पली कण्टकारिका । शृङ्गी पुनर्नवा शुण्ठी जग्धा कासं निहन्ति वै ॥ १,१९३.

Haritaki, amalaki, grapes, long pepper, kantakari, shringi, punarnava, and dry ginger—when consumed, these certainly cure cough.

अभयामलकं द्राक्षा पाठा चैव विभीतकम् । शर्कराया समं चैव जग्धं ज्वरहरं भवेत् ॥ १,१९३.

Haritaki, amalaki, grapes, patha, and vibhitaka, taken in equal measure with sugar, when consumed, become a remedy for fever.

त्रिफला बदरं द्राक्षा पिप्पली च विरेककृत् । हरीतकी सोष्णानीरलवणञ्च विरेककृत् ॥ १,१९३.

Triphala, badara, grapes, and long pepper act as purgatives; haritaki with warm water and salt also acts as a purgative.

कूर्ममत्स्याश्वमहिषगोशृगालाश्च वानराः । विडालबर्हिकाकाश्च वराहोलूककुक्कुटाः ॥ १,१९३.

Tortoise, fish, horse, buffalo, cow, jackal, monkey, cat, peacock, crow, boar, owl, and rooster—

हंस एषाञ्च विण्मूत्रं मांसं वा रोम शोणितम् । धूपं दद्याज्ज्वरार्तेभ्य उन्मत्तेभ्यश्च शान्तये ॥ १,१९३.

The excreta, urine, flesh, hair, or blood of these, when used as incense, should be offered to those afflicted with fever or madness for their pacification.

एतान्यौषधजातानि कथितानि उमापते । निघ्नन्ति ताश्च रोगांश्च वृक्षमिन्द्राशनिर्यथा ॥ १,१९३.

O Lord of Uma, these medicinal substances have been described; they destroy diseases just as Indra's thunderbolt destroys trees.

औषधंभगवान्विष्णुः संस्मृतो रोगनुद्भवेत् । ध्यातोऽर्चितः स्तुतो वापि नात्र कार्या विचारणा ॥ १,१९३.

When the blessed Vishnu is remembered as medicine, he removes diseases; whether meditated upon, worshipped, or praised, there is no need for further deliberation.

श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १९४ हरिरुवाच । सर्वव्याधिहरं वक्ष्ये वैष्णवं कवचं शुभम् । येन रक्षा कृता शम्भोर्दैत्यान्क्षपयतः पुरा ॥ १,१९४.

Hari said: I shall declare the auspicious Vaishnava armor, which removes all diseases, by which Shiva was once protected when he destroyed the demons.

प्रणम्य देवमीशानमजं नित्यमनामयम् । देवं सर्वेश्वरं विष्णुं सर्वव्यापिनमव्ययम् ॥ १,१९४.

Having bowed to the god, the Lord, the unborn, the ever-healthy, to Vishnu, the Lord of all, the all-pervading, the imperishable—

बध्नाम्यहं प्रतिसरं नमस्कृत्य जनार्दनम् । अमोघाप्रतिमं सर्वं सर्वदुः खनिवारणम् ॥ १,१९४.

I bind this protective thread, having bowed to Janardana, which is unfailing, incomparable in every way, and removes all suffering.

विष्णुर्मामग्रतः पातु कृष्णो रक्षतु पृष्ठतः । हरिर्मे रक्षतु शिरो हृदयञ्च जनार्दनः ॥ १,१९४.

May Vishnu protect me in front, Krishna guard my back, Hari protect my head, and Janardana my heart.

मनो मम हृषीकेशो जिह्वां रक्षतु केशवः । प्रातु नेत्रे वासुदेवः श्रोत्रे सङ्कर्षणो विभुः ॥ १,१९४.

May Hrishikesha protect my mind, Kesava my tongue, Vasudeva my eyes at dawn, and Sankarshana, the mighty one, my ears.

प्रद्युम्नः पातु मे घ्राणमनिरुद्धस्तु चर्म च । वनमाली गलस्यान्तं श्रीवत्सो रक्षतामधः ॥ १,१९४.

May Pradyumna protect my nose, and Aniruddha my skin; may Vanamali guard the end of my throat, and Shrivatsa protect below.
