Garuda Purana

धत्तूरबीजतैलेन दीपप्रज्वलनाद्धर । समाधावुपविष्टन्तु गगनस्थो न पश्यति ॥ १,१८४.

By lighting a lamp with dhattura seed oil, a person sitting in meditation does not see even if situated in the sky.

वृषस्य मृन्मयस्यैव युक्तो भेको निगृह्यते । शङ्करावयवैर्युक्तो धूपं घ्रात्वा च गर्जति । विस्मयं कुरुते चैव वृषवन्नात्र संशयः ॥ १,१८४.

When a frog is tied to a clay bull, it is restrained; if it is joined with parts of a conch and made to smell incense, it croaks and acts with wonder, just like a bull—of this there is no doubt.

रात्रौ च सार्षपं तैलं कीटं खद्यो तनामकम् । ताभ्यां दीपः प्रज्वलितो वाग्मिज्वालकलापवत् ॥ १,१८४.

At night, if mustard oil and a certain insect called khadyo are used, and a lamp is lit with these, its flame will be as bright as fire.

चूर्णं छुच्छुन्दरीधं दग्ध्वा रुद्र प्रलेपयेत् । तप्यते तक्षणाद्दग्धो यदि सम्यक्प्रलेपयेत् । चन्दनेन भवेन्मोक्षः पानाल्लेपात्सुखी भवेत् ॥ १,१८४.

After burning the powder of chuchundari and applying it with Rudra, if properly smeared, the burn is soothed instantly; sandalwood brings healing, and by drinking or applying it, one becomes comfortable.

कुञ्जरस्य मदाक्तस्य स्वयं नेत्रे शिववाञ्जयेत् । युद्धे विजयते सोऽपि महाशूरश्च जायते ॥ १,१८४.

If one anoints their eyes with the rut of an elephant, they will be victorious in battle and become exceedingly brave.

दन्तं डुण्डुभसर्पस्य मुखे संगृह्य वै क्षिपेत् । तिष्ठते च जलान्तस्तु निर्विकल्पं स्थले यथा ॥ १,१८४.

If one holds the tooth of a Dundubha snake in their mouth and enters the water, they will remain there without distress, just as on land.

कुम्भीरनेत्रदंष्ट्राश्च अस्थीनि रुधिरं तथा । वसातैलसमायुक्तमेकत्र तन्नियोजयेत् । आत्मानं म्लक्षयेत्तेन जले तिष्ठेद्दिनत्रयम् ॥ १,१८४.

If one combines the eyes, fangs, bones, and blood of a crocodile with fat and oil, and applies this mixture to themselves, they can remain in water for three days.

कुम्भीरकस्य नेत्राणि हृदयं कच्छपस्य च । मूषिकस्य वसास्थीनि शिशुमारवसा तथा । एतान्येकत्र संलेपाज्जले तिष्ठेद्यथा गृहे ॥ १,१८४.

By mixing together the eyes of a crocodile, the heart of a tortoise, the fat and bones of a mouse, and the fat of a porpoise, and applying this, one can stay in water as if at home.

लोहचूर्णं तक्रपीतं पाण्डुरोगहरं भवेत् । तण्डुलीय कगोक्षूरमूलं पीतं पयोन्वितम् ॥ १,१८४.

Iron powder taken with buttermilk cures anemia; the root of tanduliya, gokshura, taken with milk, is also beneficial.

कमलादिहरंपितं मुखरोगहरं तथा । जातीमूलं तक्रपीतं कोलमूलं त्वजीर्णनुत् ॥ १,१८४.

Taken with the juice of lotus and similar plants, it cures mouth diseases; the root of jati taken with buttermilk, and kola root, relieve indigestion.

सतक्रं कुशमलं वा मर्कटी मूलमेव वा । काञ्जिकेन च वाकुच्या मूलं वै दन्तरोगनुत् ॥ १,१८४.

Satakra, kushamala, or the root of markati, and the root of bakuchi with sour gruel, cure tooth diseases.

तथेन्द्रवारुणीमूलं वारिपीतं विषादिहृत् । सुरभिकामूलपा नाद्वा तन्नाशो भवेच्छिव ॥ १,१८४.

Similarly, the root of indravaruni taken with water removes poisons; or by drinking the root of surabhika, all such afflictions are destroyed, O auspicious one.

शिरोरोगहरं लेपाद्गुञ्जाचूर्णं सकाञ्जिकम् । बला चातिबला यष्टी शर्करा मधुसंयुता ॥ १,१८४.

A paste of gunja powder with sour gruel applied to the head cures head diseases; bala, atibala, yashti, mixed with sugar and honey, are also beneficial.

वन्ध्यागर्भकरी पीता नात्र कार्या विचारणा । श्वेतापराजितामूलं पिप्पलीशुण्ठिकायुतम् ॥ १,१८४.

When drunk, it causes conception in the barren—there is no doubt about this; the root of white aparajita with long pepper and dry ginger.

परिपिष्टं शिरोलेपाच्छिरः शूलविनाशनम् । निर्गुण्डिकाशिखां पीत्वा गण्डमालां विनाशयेत् ॥ १,१८४.

When ground and applied to the head, it destroys headache; drinking the tip of nirgundi removes glandular swelling.

केतकीपत्रजं क्षारं गुडेन सह भक्षयेत् । तक्रेण शरपुङ्खां वा पीत्वा प्लीहां विनाशयेत् ॥ १,१८४.

The alkali from ketaki leaves, eaten with jaggery, or drinking sharapunkha with buttermilk, destroys spleen disorders.

मातुलङ्गस्य निर्यासं गुडाज्येन समन्वितम् । वातपित्तजशूलानि हन्ति वै पानयोगतः । शुण्ठी सौवर्चलं हिङ्गु पीतं हृदयरोगनुत् ॥ १,१८४.

The juice of matulanga mixed with jaggery and ghee, when taken, destroys pains caused by wind and bile; dry ginger, black salt, and asafoetida, when taken, cure heart diseases.

श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम्

The Great Garuda Purana.

हरिरुवाच । आं गणपतये इति अयं गणपतेर्न्मन्त्रो धनविद्याप्रदायकः ॥ १,१८५.

Hari said: 'Aṃ gaṇapataye'—this mantra of Gaṇapati bestows knowledge of wealth.

इममष्टसहस्रञ्च जप्त्वा बद्ध्वा शिखां ततः । व्यवहारे जयः स्याच्च शतं जापान्नृणां प्रियः ॥ १,१८५.

Having recited this eight thousand times and then tying the hair in a topknot, one attains victory in disputes, and by reciting it a hundred times, one becomes dear to people.

तिलानां तु घृताक्तानां कृष्णानां रुद्र होमयेत् । अष्टोत्तरसहस्रन्तु राजा वश्यस्त्रिभिर्दिनैः ॥ १,१८५.

One should offer oblations to Rudra with black sesame seeds anointed with ghee; by performing this ritual one thousand and eight times, a king is brought under control within three days.

अष्टम्याञ्च चतुर्दश्यामुपोष्याभ्यर्च्य विघ्नराट् । तिलाक्षतानां जुहुयादष्टोत्तरसहस्रकम् । अपाजितः स्याद्युद्धे च सर्वे तञ्च सिषेविरे ॥ १,१८५.

On the eighth or fourteenth day, after fasting and worshipping the Lord of Obstacles, one should offer one thousand and eight oblations of sesame mixed with rice; then one will be undefeated in battle, and all will serve him.

जप्त्वा चाष्टसहस्रन्तु ततश्चाष्टशतेन हि । शिखां बद्ध्वा राजकुले व्यवहारे जयो भवेत् ॥ १,१८५.

Having recited it eight thousand times and then one hundred and eight times, and tying the hair in a topknot, one attains victory in royal courts.

ह्रीङ्कारं सविसर्गञ्च प्रातः काले नरस्तु यः । स्त्रीणां ललाटे विन्यस्य वशतां नयति ध्रुवम् ॥ १,१८५.

A man who, in the morning, places the syllable 'hrīṃ' with its visarga on a woman's forehead will surely bring her under his control.

सुसमाहितचित्तेन विन्यस्य प्रमदालये । सोत्कामां कामिनीं कुर्यान्नात्र कार्या विचारणा ॥ १,१८५.

By placing it in the women's quarters with a mind fully concentrated, one will make a passionate woman eager; there is no doubt about this.

जुहुयादयुतं यस्तु शुचिः प्रयतमानसः । दृष्टिमात्रे सदा तस्य वश्यमायान्ति योषितः ॥ १,१८५.

He who, pure and with focused mind, offers ten thousand oblations, will always have women come under his control merely by his gaze.

मनः शिलापत्रकञ्च सगोरोचनकुङ्कुमम् । कृत एभिश्च तिलके वश्यमायान्ति योषितः ॥ १,१८५.

By making a tilaka with the essence of the mind, slate, cow's gall, and saffron, women come under one's control.

भृङ्गराट्सहदेवा च वचा श्वेतापराजिता । तेनैव तिलकं कृत्वा त्रैलोक्यं वशतां नयेत् ॥ १,१८५.

By making a tilaka with bhringaraja, sahadeva, vaca, and white aparajita, one can bring the three worlds under control.

गोरोचना मीनपित्तमाभ्याञ्च कृतवर्तिकः । यः पुमांस्तिलकं कुर्याद्वामहस्तकनिष्ठया । स करोति वशे सर्वं त्रैलोक्यं नात्र संशयः ॥ १,१८५.

A man who makes a tilaka with cow's gall and fish bile, using the little finger of his left hand, brings all the three worlds under his control; there is no doubt about this.
