Garuda Purana

शर्करां मधुसंयुक्तां पीत्वा तण्डुलवारिणा । रक्तातिसारशमनं भवतीति वृषध्वज ! ॥ १,१८२.

By drinking sugar mixed with honey in rice water, O Bull-bannered One, excessive bleeding is calmed.

श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १८३ हरिरुवाच । मरिचं शृङ्गवेरं च कुटजत्वचमेव च । पानाच्च ग्रहणी नश्येच्छशाङ्काङ्कितशेखर ! ॥ १,१८३.

Hari said: Black pepper, ginger, and kuṭaja bark—by drinking these, indigestion is destroyed, O moon-crested One.

पिप्पली पिप्पलीमूलं मरिचं तगरं वचा । देवदारुरसं पाठां क्षीरेण सह पेषयेत् ॥ १,१८३.

Long pepper, its root, black pepper, tagara, vacā, devadāru resin, pāṭhā—these should be ground together with milk.

अनेनैव प्रयोगेण ह्यतिसारो विनश्यति । मरीचतिलपुष्पाभ्या मञ्जनं कामलापहम् ॥ १,१८३.

By this very application, diarrhea is destroyed; eye ointment made from black pepper and sesame flowers removes jaundice.

हरीतकी समगुडा मधुना सह योजिता । विरेचनकरी रुद्र ! भवतीति न संशयः ॥ १,१८३.

Harītakī mixed with jaggery and honey acts as a purgative, O Rudra, without doubt.

त्रिफला चित्रकं चित्रं तथा कटुकरोहिणी । उरुस्तम्भहरं ह्येतदुत्तमन्तु विरेचनम् ॥ १,१८३.

Triphala, citraka, citra, and also katukarohini—this is an excellent purgative that removes paralysis of the thighs.

हरीतकी शृङ्गवेरं देवदारु च चन्दनम् । क्वाथयेच्छागदुग्धेन अपामार्गस्य मूलकम् । ऊरुस्तम्भं जयन्त्या वा सप्तरात्रेण नाशयेत् ॥ १,१८३.

Haritaki, shunthi, devadaru, and sandalwood should be decocted with goat's milk, together with the root of apamarga; this or jayanti will remove paralysis of the thighs within seven nights.

अनन्ताशृङ्गवेरस्य सूक्ष्मचूर्णानि कारयेत् । गुग्गुलं गुडतुल्यं च गुटिकामुपयुज्यच । वायुः स्नायुगतं चैव अग्निमान्द्यं च नाशयेत् ॥ १,१८३.

Make fine powders of ananta and shunthi; use guggulu equal to jaggery, and prepare a tablet; this destroys wind lodged in the nerves and also digestive weakness.

सङ्खपुष्पीन्तु पुष्पेण समुद्धृत्य सपत्रिकाम् । समूलां छागदुग्धेन अपस्मारहरं पिबेत् ॥ १,१८३.

Take sankhapushpi with its flowers and leaves, uproot it with the root, and drink it with goat's milk; this removes epilepsy.

अश्वगन्धाभये चैव उदकेन समं पिबेत् । रक्तपित्तं विनश्येत्तु नात्र कार्या विचारणा ॥ १,१८३.

One should drink ashwagandha and abhaya together with water; bleeding disorders are destroyed—there is no need for further consideration.

हरीतकीकुष्ठचूर्णं कृत्वा आस्यं च पूरयेत् । शीतं पीत्वाथ पानीयं सर्वच्छर्दिनिवारणम् ॥ १,१८३.

Prepare a powder of haritaki and kustha, fill the mouth with it, and then drink cold water; this prevents all vomiting.

गडूचीपद्मकारिष्टधान्याकं रक्तचंन्दनम् । पित्तश्लेष्मज्वरच्छर्दिदाहतृष्णाघ्नमग्निकृत् । ओं हुं नम इति ॥ १,१८३.

Guduchi, padmaka, arishta, dhanyaka, and red sandalwood—this remedy cures fevers of pitta and kapha, vomiting, burning, and thirst, and kindles the digestive fire. Om hum namah.

श्रोत्रे बद्ध्वा शङ्खपुष्पीं ज्वरं मन्त्रेण वै हरेत् । ओं जम्भिनी स्तम्भिनी मोहय सर्वव्याधीन्मे वज्रेण ठः ठः सर्वव्याधीन्मे वज्रेण फटिति ॥ १,१८३.

By tying sankhapushpi in the ear, fever is removed by means of a mantra: Om jambhini stambhini, bewilder all diseases for me with the thunderbolt, ttha ttha, bewilder all diseases for me with the thunderbolt, phat.

पुष्पमष्टशतं जप्त्वा हस्ते दत्त्वा नखं स्पृशेत् । चातुर्थिको ज्वरो रुद्र अन्ये चैव ज्वरास्तथा ॥ १,१८३.

After reciting the mantra one hundred and eight times over a flower, touch the nail with it in your hand; the fourth-day fever, Rudra, and other fevers are likewise removed.

ज्म्बूफलं हरिद्रा च सर्पस्यैव तु कञ्चुकम् । सर्वज्वराणां धूपोऽयं हरश्चातुर्थिकस्य च ॥ १,१८३.

Jambu fruit, turmeric, and the slough of a snake—this fumigation removes all fevers and especially the fourth-day fever.

करवीरं भृङ्गपत्रं लवणं कुष्ठकर्कटे । चतुर्गुणेन मूत्रेण पचेत्तैलं हरेच्च तत् । पामां विचर्चिकां कुष्ठमभ्यङ्गाद्धि व्रणानि वै ॥ १,१८३.

Karavira, bhringa leaves, salt, and kustha-karkata should be cooked in urine four times their quantity, then that oil should be used; it cures eczema, scabies, leprosy, and wounds by anointing.

पिप्पलीमधुपानाच्च तथा मधुरभोजनात् । प्लीहा विनश्यते रुद्र तथा सूरणसेवनात् ॥ १,१८३.

By drinking pippali with honey and eating sweet foods, the spleen is destroyed, O Rudra, as also by the use of surana.

पिप्पलीञ्च हरिद्राञ्च गोमूत्रेण समन्विताम् । प्रक्षिपेच्च गुदद्वारे अर्शांसि विनिवारयेत् ॥ १,१८३.

Mix pippali and turmeric with cow's urine and apply it to the anus; this will remove hemorrhoids.

अजादुग्धमार्द्रकञ्च पीतं प्लीहादिनाशनम् । सैन्धवञ्च विडङ्गानि सोमराजी तु सर्षपाः ॥ १,१८३.

Goat's milk and fresh ginger, when drunk, destroy spleen disorders; rock salt, vidanga, somaraji, and mustard seeds are also effective.

रजनी द्वे विषञ्चैव गोमूत्रेणैव पेषयेत् । कुष्ठनाशश्च तल्लेपान्निम्बपत्रादिना तथा ॥ १,१८३.

Two parts turmeric and poison should be ground with cow's urine; leprosy is destroyed by applying this, as also by using neem leaves and the like.

श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १८४ हरिरुवाच । रजनीकदलीक्षारलेपः सिध्मविनाशनः । कुष्ठस्य भागमेकन्तु पथ्याभागद्वयं तथा । उष्णोदकेन संपीय कटिशूलविनाशनम् ॥ १,१८४.

A paste of turmeric, banana stem, and alkali removes white patches; for leprosy, use one part of this and two parts of pathya, and drink it with hot water to remove pain in the waist.

अभया नवनीतञ्च शर्करापिप्पलीयुतम् । पानादर्शोहरं स्याच्च नात्र कार्या विचारणा ॥ १,१८४.

Abhaya, fresh butter, sugar, and pippali—when taken as a drink, this removes piles; there is no need for further consideration.

आटरूषकपत्रेण घृतं मृद्वग्निना पचेत् । चूर्णं कृत्वा तु लेपोऽयं अर्शरोगहरः परः ॥ १,१८४.

Cook ghee with atarushaka leaves over a gentle fire; after making it into a powder, this paste is an excellent remedy for hemorrhoids.

गुग्गुलुत्रिफलायुक्तं पीत्वा नश्येद्भगन्दरम् । अजाजीशृङ्गवेरञ्च दथा मण्डं विपाचयेत् ॥ १,१८४.

By drinking a decoction containing guggulu and triphala, fistula-in-ano is destroyed; also, prepare a gruel with ajaji (caraway) and shringavera (ginger).

लवणेन तु संयुक्तं मूत्रकृच्छ्रविनाशनम् । यवक्षारं शर्करा च मूत्रकृच्छ्रविनाशकृत् ॥ १,१८४.

When mixed with salt, it cures difficulty in urination; yavakshara and sugar also remove urinary disorders.

चिताग्निः खञ्जरीटस्य विष्ठा फेनो हयस्य च । सौभाञ्जनं वासनेत्रं नर एतैस्तु धूपितः । अदृश्यस्त्रिदशैः सर्वैः किं पुनर्मानवैः शिव ॥ १,१८४.

The ashes from a funeral pyre, the excrement of a chameleon, the froth of a horse, saubhāñjana, and vāsanetra—when a person is fumigated with these, he becomes invisible to all the gods; how much more so to humans, O auspicious one.

तिलतैलं यवान्दग्ध्वा मषीं कृत्वा तु लेपयेत् । तेनैव सह तैलेन अग्निदग्धः सुखी भवेत् ॥ १,१८४.

Burning barley in sesame oil, make ink and apply it; together with that oil, a person burned by fire will become comfortable.

लज्जालोः शरपुङ्खाया लेपः साज्योऽग्निनाशनः । ओं नमो भगवते ठ ठ छिन्धि छिन्धि ज्वलनं प्रज्वलितं नाशय नाशय हुं फट् ॥ १,१८४.

A poultice of lajjalu (Mimosa pudica) and sharapunkha, with ghee, destroys burns; 'Om, obeisance to the Blessed One! Ṭha ṭha, cut, cut! Ignite the flame, blaze up, destroy, destroy! Hum phaṭ.'

करे बद्धं तु निर्गुण्ड्या मूलं ज्वरहरं द्रुतम् । मूलञ्च श्वेतगुञ्जायाः कृत्वा तत्सप्तखण्डकम् ॥ १,१८४.

Binding the root of nirgundi on the hand quickly removes fever; also, taking the root of white gunja and dividing it into seven pieces.
