Garuda Purana

शर्करामधुसंयुक्तं नवनीतं बली लिहेत् । क्षीराशी च क्षयी पुष्टिं मेधाञ्चैवातुलां व्रजेत् ॥ १,१८२.

A strong person should lick fresh butter mixed with sugar and honey; one who consumes milk in this way gains nourishment and unsurpassed intellect.

कुलीरचूर्णं सक्षीरं पीतञ्च क्षयरेगनुत् । भल्लातकं विडङ्गञ्च यवक्षारञ्च सैन्धवम् ॥ १,१८२.

Powder of crab, taken with milk, cures consumption; bhallataka, vidanga, barley-alkali, and rock salt—

मनः शिला शङ्खचूर्णं तैलपक्वं तथैव च । लोमानि शातयत्येव नात्र कार्या विचारणा ॥ १,१८२.

Borax and conch powder, cooked in oil, certainly remove hair; there is no need for doubt in this.

मालूरस्य रसं गृह्य जलौकां तत्र पेषयेत् । हस्तौ संलेपयेत्तेन त्वग्निस्तम्भनमुत्तमम् ॥ १,१८२.

Taking the juice of the mālūra fruit and grinding a leech in it, one should apply it to the hands; this is an excellent remedy for arresting fire.

शाल्मलीरसमादाय खरमूत्रे निधाय तम् । अग्नयादौ विक्षिपेत्तेन ह्यग्निस्तम्भनमुत्तमम् ॥ १,१८२.

Taking the juice of the silk cotton tree and placing it in donkey urine, one should throw it into the fire; this is an excellent means of arresting fire.

वायस्या उदरं गृह्य मण्डूकवसया सह । गुटिकां कारयेत्तेन ततोऽग्नौ संक्षैपेत्सुधीः । एवमेतत्प्रयोगेण ह्यग्निस्तम्भनमुत्तमम् ॥ १,१८२.

Taking the stomach of a vulture together with the fat of a frog, one should make a pill and throw it into the fire; by this method, fire is excellently arrested.

मुण्डीत्वक्च वचा मुस्तं मरिचं तगरं तथा । चर्वित्वा च त्विमं सद्यो जिह्वया ज्वलनं लिहेत् ॥ १,१८२.

The bark of mundi, vacha, musta, black pepper, and tagara—after chewing these, one can immediately extinguish fire with the tongue.

गोरोचनां भृङ्गराजं चूर्णोकृत्यघृतं समम् । दिव्याम्भसः स्तम्भनं स्यान्मन्त्रेणानेन वै तथा । ओं अग्निस्तम्भनं कुरु कुरु ॥ १,१८२.

Mix cow's gall and bhringaraja powder equally with clarified butter; this, together with divine water, serves as a means of stambhana (immobilization) when recited with this mantra: 'Om, perform the immobilization of fire, perform it, perform it.'

ओं नमो भगवते जलं स्तम्भय सं सं सं केक केकः चरचर । जलस्तम्भनमन्त्रोऽयं जलं स्तम्भयते शिव ! ॥ १,१८२.

'Om, obeisance to the Blessed One, immobilize the water, saṃ saṃ saṃ, keka kekaḥ, moving and unmoving.' This is the mantra for water immobilization, O Shiva, and it immobilizes water.

गृध्रास्थिञ्च गवास्थिञ्च तथा निर्माल्यमेव च । अरेर्यो निखनेद्द्वारे पञ्चत्वमु पयाति सः ॥ १,१८२.

If one buries vulture bones, cow bones, and also temple remnants at the enemy's doorway, that enemy will meet death.

पञ्चरक्तानि पुष्पाणि पृथग्जात्या समालभेत् । कुङ्कुमेन समायुक्तमात्मरक्तसमन्वितम् ॥ १,१८२.

One should collect five red flowers, each of a different kind, mixed with saffron and one's own blood.

पुष्पेण तु समं पिष्ट्वा रोचनायाः पलैकतः । स्त्रिया पुंसा कृतो रुद्र ! तिलकोऽयं वशीकरः ॥ १,१८२.

Having ground the flower together with one pala of rocanā, O Rudra, the tilaka made for a woman or man is a means of attraction.

ब्रह्मदण्डी तु पुष्येण भक्ष्ये पाने वशीकरः । यष्टि मधु पलैकेन पक्वमुष्णोदकं पिबेत् ॥ १,१८२.

Brahmadandi, when mixed with flowers and consumed in food or drink, acts as a means of attraction; one should drink a stick of honey weighing one pala, cooked in hot water.

विष्टम्भिकाञ्च हृच्छूलं हरत्येव महेश्वर ! । ओं ह्रूं जः । मन्त्रोऽयं हरते रुद्र ! सर्ववृश्चिकजं विषम् ॥ १,१८२.

The viṣṭambhikā herb and heart pain are indeed removed, O Maheshvara! 'Om hrūṃ jaḥ.' This mantra, O Rudra, removes all poison arising from scorpions.

पिप्पली नवनीतञ्च शृङ्गवेरं च सैन्धवम् । मरिचं दधि कुष्ठञ्च नस्ये पाने विषं हरेत् ॥ १,१८२.

Long pepper, fresh butter, ginger, rock salt, black pepper, curd, and kuṣṭha—when used as nasal drops or taken orally, remove poison.

त्रिफलार्द्रककुष्ठं च चन्दनं घृतसंयुतम् । एतत्पानाच्च लेपाच्च विषनाशो भवेच्छिव ! ॥ १,१८२.

Triphala, fresh ginger, kuṣṭha, sandalwood mixed with clarified butter—by drinking or applying this, O Shiva, poison is destroyed.

पारावतस्य चाक्षीणि हरितालं मनः शिला । एतद्योगाद्विषं हन्ति वैनतेय इवोरगान् ॥ १,१८२.

The eyes of a pigeon, orpiment, and mica—by this combination, poison is destroyed just as Garuda destroys serpents.

सैन्धवं त्र्यूषणं चैव दधिमध्वाज्यसंयुतम् । वृश्चिकस्य विषं हन्ति लेपोऽयं वृषभध्वज ! ॥ १,१८२.

Rock salt, tryūṣaṇa, curd, honey, and clarified butter—this ointment, O Bull-bannered One, destroys the poison of a scorpion.

ब्रह्मदण्डीतिलान्क्वाथ्य चूर्णं त्रिकटुकं पिबेत् । नाशयेद्रुद्र ! गुल्मानि निरुद्धं रक्तमेव च ॥ १,१८२.

By boiling brahmadandi and sesame, and drinking the powder of trikaṭuka, O Rudra, tumors and blocked blood are destroyed.

पीत्वा क्षीरं क्षौद्रयुतं नाशयेदसृजः स्त्रुतिम् । आटरूपकमूलेन भगं नाभिं च लेपयेत् । सुखं प्रसूयते नारी नात्र कार्या विचारणा ॥ १,१८२.

After drinking milk mixed with honey, the flow of blood is stopped; by applying the root of āṭarūpaka to the vulva and navel, a woman gives birth easily—there is no need for further inquiry.

शर्करां मधुसंयुक्तां पीत्वा तण्डुलवारिणा । रक्तातिसारशमनं भवतीति वृषध्वज ! ॥ १,१८२.

By drinking sugar mixed with honey in rice water, O Bull-bannered One, excessive bleeding is calmed.

श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १८३ हरिरुवाच । मरिचं शृङ्गवेरं च कुटजत्वचमेव च । पानाच्च ग्रहणी नश्येच्छशाङ्काङ्कितशेखर ! ॥ १,१८३.

Hari said: Black pepper, ginger, and kuṭaja bark—by drinking these, indigestion is destroyed, O moon-crested One.

पिप्पली पिप्पलीमूलं मरिचं तगरं वचा । देवदारुरसं पाठां क्षीरेण सह पेषयेत् ॥ १,१८३.

Long pepper, its root, black pepper, tagara, vacā, devadāru resin, pāṭhā—these should be ground together with milk.

अनेनैव प्रयोगेण ह्यतिसारो विनश्यति । मरीचतिलपुष्पाभ्या मञ्जनं कामलापहम् ॥ १,१८३.

By this very application, diarrhea is destroyed; eye ointment made from black pepper and sesame flowers removes jaundice.

हरीतकी समगुडा मधुना सह योजिता । विरेचनकरी रुद्र ! भवतीति न संशयः ॥ १,१८३.

Harītakī mixed with jaggery and honey acts as a purgative, O Rudra, without doubt.

त्रिफला चित्रकं चित्रं तथा कटुकरोहिणी । उरुस्तम्भहरं ह्येतदुत्तमन्तु विरेचनम् ॥ १,१८३.

Triphala, citraka, citra, and also katukarohini—this is an excellent purgative that removes paralysis of the thighs.

हरीतकी शृङ्गवेरं देवदारु च चन्दनम् । क्वाथयेच्छागदुग्धेन अपामार्गस्य मूलकम् । ऊरुस्तम्भं जयन्त्या वा सप्तरात्रेण नाशयेत् ॥ १,१८३.

Haritaki, shunthi, devadaru, and sandalwood should be decocted with goat's milk, together with the root of apamarga; this or jayanti will remove paralysis of the thighs within seven nights.

अनन्ताशृङ्गवेरस्य सूक्ष्मचूर्णानि कारयेत् । गुग्गुलं गुडतुल्यं च गुटिकामुपयुज्यच । वायुः स्नायुगतं चैव अग्निमान्द्यं च नाशयेत् ॥ १,१८३.

Make fine powders of ananta and shunthi; use guggulu equal to jaggery, and prepare a tablet; this destroys wind lodged in the nerves and also digestive weakness.

सङ्खपुष्पीन्तु पुष्पेण समुद्धृत्य सपत्रिकाम् । समूलां छागदुग्धेन अपस्मारहरं पिबेत् ॥ १,१८३.

Take sankhapushpi with its flowers and leaves, uproot it with the root, and drink it with goat's milk; this removes epilepsy.
