कटुतैलेन लिप्तो वै विधूमाग्नौ प्रतापितः । मृत्तिकारखादितः पादः समः स्याद्वृषभध्वज ॥ १,१७७.
When the foot is smeared with pungent oil, heated over a smokeless fire, and covered with earth, O Bull-bannered One, it becomes as strong as a bull.
सर्जरसाः सिक्थकं च जीरकं च हरीतकी । उत्साधितघृताभ्यङ्गो ह्यग्निदग्धव्यथापनुत् ॥ १,१७७.
Sarjarasa, sikthaka, cumin, and haritaki—when made into a paste with clarified butter and applied, remove the pain of burns.
तिलतैलं चाग्निदग्धं यवभस्मसमन्वितम् । अग्निदग्धव्रणं नश्येद्ब्रहुशः कृतलेपतः ॥ १,१७७.
Sesame oil, burnt in fire and mixed with barley ash, if repeatedly applied as a paste, destroys burn wounds.
नवनीतं माहिषं च दग्धपिष्टतिलानि च । सभल्लाकं व्रणं नश्येद्धृच्छूलं नस्यलेपनात् ॥ १,१७७.
Fresh buffalo butter, burnt and ground sesame seeds, and bhallataka—when applied as a nasal ointment, remove wounds and headaches.
कर्पूरगव्यसर्पिर्भ्यां प्रहारः पूरितो हर । शस्त्रोद्भवः सबद्धश्च शुक्लवर्णेन शङ्कर ! । पाकं च वेदनां चैव संस्पृशेद्वृषभध्वज ॥ १,१७७.
O Hara, a blow filled with camphor and cow’s ghee, or one caused by a weapon and bound up, O Shankara, when white in color, touches both suppuration and pain, O Bull-bannered One.
आम्र (तस्य) मूलरसेनैव शस्त्रघातः प्रपूरितः । ढौकते शस्त्रघाताभ्यां निर्व्रणो घृपूरितः ॥ १,१७७.
A wound from a weapon filled with the root juice of the mango tree, and then washed with ghee, becomes free of wounds from weapon injuries.
शरपुङ्खा लज्जालुका पाठा चैषां तु मूलकम् । जलपिष्टं तस्य लेपाच्छस्त्रघातः प्रशाम्यति ॥ १,१७७.
The roots of sharapunkha, lajjaluka, and patha—when ground with water and applied as a paste—soothe wounds caused by weapons.
मूलं च काकजङ्घायास्त्रिरात्रेणैव शोषितः । पाकपूतिं वेदनां च हन्ति वै रोहितो व्रणे ॥ १,१७७.
The root of kakajangha, dried for three nights, destroys suppuration and pain in wounds, and promotes healing.
सजलं तिलतैलं च अपामार्गस्य मूलकम् । तत्सेकदानान्नश्येच्च प्रहारोद्भववेदना ॥ १,१७७.
Sesame oil mixed with the root of apamarga and water, when applied at once, removes pain caused by blows.
अभयां सैन्धवं शुण्ठीमेतत्पिष्ट्वोदकेन तु । भक्षयित्वा ह्यजीर्णस्य नाशो भवति शङ्कर ! ॥ १,१७७.
Abhaya, rock salt, and dry ginger—when ground and taken with water—remove indigestion, O Shankara.
कटिबद्धं निम्बमूलमक्षिसूलहरं भवेत् । शणमूलं सताम्बूलं दग्धमिन्द्रियकस्य (ल्प) हृत् ॥ १,१७७.
The root of neem, tied at the waist, removes eye pain; the root of shana, with betel, when burnt, removes pain of the senses.
अन्नस्विन्नहरिद्रा च श्वेतसर्षपमूलकम् । बीजानि मातुलुङ्गस्य एषामुद्वर्तनं समम् । सप्तरात्रप्रयोगेण शुभदेहकरं भवेत् ॥ १,१७७.
Cooked turmeric, the root of white mustard, and the seeds of matulunga—when used as a powder for seven days—bring about a healthy body.
श्वेतापराजितापत्रं निम्बपत्ररसेन तु । नस्यदानाड्डाकिनीनां मातॄणां ब्रह्मरक्षसाम् । मोक्षः स्यान्मधुसारेण नस्याच्च वृषभध्वज ॥ १,१७७.
The leaf of white aparajita, with neem leaf juice, given as nasal drops, brings release from possession by dakinis, mothers, and brahmarakshasas, O Bull-bannered One, and with honey, by nasal application.
मूलं श्वेतजयन्त्याश्च पुष्यर्क्षे तु समाहृतम् । श्वेतापराजितार्कस्य चित्रकस्य च मूलकम् । कृत्वा तु वटिकां नारी तिलकेन वशी भवेत् ॥ १,१७७.
The root of white jayanti, gathered under the Pushya star, along with the roots of white aparajita and chitraka—when made into a pill, a woman becomes subject to one’s will with tilaka.
पिप्पलीलोहचूर्णं तु शुण्ठीश्चामलकानि च । समानि रुद्र जानीयात्सैन्धवं मधुशर्करा ॥ १,१७७.
Pippali, iron powder, dry ginger, and amalaki—know these, O Rudra, to be equal, along with rock salt and sugar-candy.
उदुम्बरप्रमाणेन सप्ताहं भक्षणात्समम् । पुमांश्च बलवान्स स्याज्जीवेद्वर्षशतद्वयम् । ओं ठ ठ ठ इति सर्ववश्यप्रयोगेषु प्रयुक्तः सर्वकामकृत् ॥ १,१७७.
Taken in the size of a fig for seven days, a man becomes strong and lives for two hundred years; 'Om ṭha ṭha ṭha'—used in all rituals of subjugation—fulfills every desire.
संगृह्य विद्वान्काकस्य निलयं प्रदहेच्च तत् । चिताग्नौ भस्म तच्छत्रोर्दत्तं शिरसि शङ्कर ॥ १,१७७.
The wise one should collect the dwelling of a crow and burn it; that ash, placed on the head under an umbrella, O Shankara—
तमुच्चाटयते रुद्र शृणु तद्योगमुत्तमम् । निः क्षिप्तं च पुरीषं वै वनमूषिकचर्मणि ॥ १,१७७.
O Rudra, it expels (the target); listen to that supreme method: the excrement, thrown onto the skin of a wild rat—
कटितन्तुनिबद्धं वै कुर्यान्मलनिरोधनम् । कृष्णकाकस्य रक्तेन यस्य नाम प्रलिप्य च ॥ १,१७७.
One should bind excrement with a thread of hemp, smear it with the blood of a black crow, and write the name of the intended person upon it.
च्युतदले मध्यमध्ये ततो निः क्षिप्यते हर ! । स खाद्यते काकवृन्दैर्नारी पुरुष एव च ॥ १,१७७.
O Hara, then, in the middle of a fallen leaf, it is to be cast away; by this, both women and men are devoured by flocks of crows.
शर्करामध्वजाक्षीरं तिलगोक्षुरकं समम् । स शत्रुं नाशयेद्रुद्र ! उच्चाटितमिदं हर ! ॥ १,१७७.
Sugar, honey, cow's milk, sesame, and gokshura, mixed together, O Rudra, destroy an enemy; this is an expulsion, O Hara!
उलूककृष्णकाकस्य बिल्वस्याथ समिच्छतम् । रुधिरेण समायुक्तं ययोर्नाम्ना तु हूयते । तयोर्मध्ये महावैरं भवेन्नास्त्यत्र संशयः ॥ १,१७७.
If one desires enmity, the blood of an owl, a black crow, and a bilva fruit are combined; when the names of two people are offered into the fire with these, great hostility arises between them—of this there is no doubt.
भावितं ऋक्षदुग्धेन मत्स्यस्य रोहितस्य च । मांसं तत्साधितं तैलं तदभ्यङ्गाच्च रोगनुत् । चन्दनोदकनस्यात्तु रोमोत्थानं भवेत्पुनः ॥ १,१७७.
Meat of a fish—specifically rohu—prepared with bear's milk and oil, when used for massage, cures diseases; but if washed with sandalwood water, hair will grow again.
हस्ते लाङ्गलिकाकन्दं गृहीतं तेन लेपितम् । शरीरं येन स पुमान्वृद्धेर्दर्पं व्यपोहति ॥ १,१७७.
A man who takes the root of the langali plant in his hand and applies it to his body dispels the pride of old age.
मयूररुधिरेणैव जीवं संहरते शिव । ज्वलतां तु भुजङ्गानां बिलस्थानामपीश्वर ॥ १,१७७.
O Shiva, with peacock's blood, one can take away life—even of living, burning snakes dwelling in their holes, O Lord.
देहश्चिताग्नौ दग्धश्च सर्पस्याजगरस्य हि । तद्भस्म संमुखे क्षिप्तं शत्रणां भङ्गकृद्भवेत् ॥ १,१७७.
If the body of a snake or python is burned in a funeral fire, and its ashes are thrown in front of enemies, it brings about their destruction.
मन्त्रेणानेन तत्क्षिप्तं महाभङ्गकरं रिपोः । ओं ठ ठ ठ चाहीहिचाहीहि स्वाहा । ओं उदरं पाहिहि पाहिहिस्वाहा ॥ १,१७७.
If this is cast with the following mantra, it causes great destruction to the enemy: 'Om ṭha ṭha ṭha, come O serpent, come! Svaha. Om, protect the belly, protect, protect! Svaha.'
सुदर्शनाया मलं तु पुष्यर्क्षे तु समाहृतम् । निः क्षिप्तं गृहमध्ये तु भुजङ्गा वर्जयन्ति तत् ॥ १,१७७.
If the excrement of a Sudarshana bird is collected under the Pushya star and placed in the middle of a house, snakes will avoid that place.
अर्कमूलेन रविणा अर्काग्निज्वलिता शिव । युक्ता सिद्धार्थतैलेन वर्तिर्मार्गाहिनाशिनी ॥ १,१७७.
O Shiva, a wick made from the root of the arka plant, ignited by the sun's fire and mixed with siddhartha oil, destroys snakes along the path.
मार्जारपललं विष्ठा हरितालं च भावितम् । छाग मूत्रेण तल्लिप्तो मूषिको मूषिकान्हरेत् ॥ १,१७७.
Cat dung, treated with orpiment and smeared with goat urine, if applied, will cause a mouse to destroy other mice.
