Garuda Purana

दद्यात्सुशीतलं वारि तृट्छर्दिज्वरदाहनुत् । बिल्वादिप पञ्चमूलस्य क्वाथः स्याद्वातिके ज्वरे ॥ १,१७५.

Or give very cool water to relieve thirst, vomiting, fever, and burning; for vāta-type fever, a decoction of the five roots beginning with bilva is prescribed.

पाचनं पिप्पलीमूलं गुडृचीविश्वभेषजम् । वातज्वरे त्वयं क्वाथो दत्तः शान्तिकरः परः ॥ १,१७५.

Pippalī root, guḍūcī, and viśvabheṣaja are digestive; in vāta fever, this decoction, when given, brings great relief.

पित्तज्वरघ्नः समधुः क्वाथः पर्पटनिम्बयोः । विधाने क्रियमाणेऽपि य्सय संज्ञा न जायते ॥ १,१७५.

A decoction of parpaṭa and nimb with honey destroys pitta fever; even when prepared in various ways, it does not lose its efficacy.

पादयोस्तु ललाटे वा दहेल्लौहशलाकया । तिक्ता पाठा पर्पटाश्च विशाला त्रिफला त्रिवृत् । सक्षीरो भेदनः क्वाथः सर्वज्वरविशोधनः ॥ १,१७५.

Cauterize the feet or forehead with an iron rod; a decoction of bitter pāṭhā, parpaṭa, viśālā, triphalā, trivṛt, and milk is purgative and cleanses all fevers.

श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १७६ श्रीभगवानुवाच । सप्तरात्रात्प्रजायन्ते खल्वाटस्य कचाः शुभाः । दग्धहस्तिदन्तलेपात्साजाक्षीररसाञ्जनात् ॥ १,१७६.

The Blessed Lord said: After seven nights, auspicious hair grows for one who is bald, by applying the paste of burnt elephant ivory with barley juice and collyrium made from milk.

भृङ्गराजरसेनैव चतुर्भागेन साधितम् । केशवृद्धिकरं तैलं गुञ्जाचूर्णान्वितेन च ॥ १,१७६.

Oil prepared with the juice of bhṛṅgarāja in a quarter part, and mixed with guñjā powder, promotes the growth of hair.

एलामांसीकुष्ठमुरायुक्तमभ्यङ्गतः शिवम् । गुञ्जाफलं समादेयं लेपनं चन्द्रलुप्तनुत् ॥ १,१७६.

Anointing with a mixture of cardamom, māṃsī, kuṣṭha, and urā, or applying a paste of guñjā fruit, removes moonlight-induced baldness.

आम्रास्थिचूर्णलेपाद्वै केशाः सूक्ष्मा भवन्ति च । करञ्जामलकैलाललाक्षालेपोऽरुणापहः ॥ १,१७६.

By applying a paste of mango stone powder, the hair becomes fine; and a paste of karanja, amalaki, aloe, and lac removes redness.

आम्रास्थिमज्जामलकलेपात्केशा भवन्ति वै । बद्धमूला घना दीर्घाः स्नग्धाः स्युर्नोत्पतन्ति च ॥ १,१७६.

By applying a paste of mango stone marrow and amalaki, the hair becomes firmly rooted, thick, long, unctuous, and does not fall out.

विडङ्गगन्धपाषाणसाधितं तैलमुत्तमम् । सचतुर्गुणगोमूत्रं मनसः शिलमेव वा ॥ १,१७६.

Excellent oil prepared with viḍanga, gandha-pāṣāṇa, and four times the amount of cow's urine, or with manasa stone, is beneficial.

शिरोऽभ्यङ्गाच्छिराजन्मयूकालिख्याः क्षयं नयेत् । नवदग्धं शङ्खचूर्णं घृष्टसीसकलेपितम् ॥ १,१७६.

Oiling the head with this brings about the destruction of lice and nits; and applying freshly burnt conch powder rubbed with lead is effective.

कचाः श्लक्ष्णा महाकृष्णा भवन्ति वृषभध्वज । भृङ्गराजं लोहचूर्णं त्रिफला बीजपूरकम् ॥ १,१७६.

O Bull-bannered one, the hair becomes smooth, very black, by using bhringaraja, iron powder, triphala, and bījapūraka.

नीली च करवीरं च गुडमेतैः समं शृतम् । पलितानीह कृष्णानि कुर्याल्लेपान्महौषधम् ॥ १,१७६.

By cooking indigo and karavira with jaggery, and applying this great medicine as a paste, gray hairs become black.

आम्रास्थिमज्जा त्रिफला नी (ता) ली च भृङ्ग राजकम् । जीर्णं पक्वं लोहचूर्णं काञ्जिकं कृष्णकेशकृत् ॥ १,१७६.

Mango stone marrow, triphala, indigo, bhringaraja, aged and cooked iron powder, and sour gruel make the hair black.

चक्रमर्दकबीजानि कुष्ठमेरण्डमूलकम् । अत्यम्लकाञ्जिकं पिष्ट्वा लेपान्मस्तकरोगनुत् ॥ १,१७६.

By grinding cakramarda seeds, kuṣṭha, and castor root with very sour gruel and applying as a paste, diseases of the scalp are alleviated.

सैन्धवं च वचा हिङ्गु कुष्ठं नागेश्वरं तथा । शतपुष्पा देवदारु एभिस्तैलं तु साधितम् ॥ १,१७६.

Rock salt, vacā, asafoetida, kuṣṭha, nāgeśvara, śatapuṣpā, and devadāru—oil prepared with these is beneficial.

गोपुरीपरसेनैव चतुर्भागेन संयुतम् । तत्कणभरणादुग्रकर्णशूलं क्षयं नयेत् ॥ १,१७६.

Mixed with one-fourth part of gopurī juice, and applied to the ear, it cures severe ear pain.

मेषमूत्रसैन्धवाभ्यां कर्णयोर्भरणाच्छिव । कर्णयोः पूतिनाशः स्यात्कृमिस्त्रावादिकस्य च ॥ १,१७६.

By filling the ears with sheep's urine and rock salt, foul odor and discharge caused by worms in the ears are removed.

मालतीपुप्पदलयो रसेन भरणात्तथा । गोजलेनैव पूरेण पूयस्त्रावो विनश्यति ॥ १,१७६.

By filling the ears with the juice of jasmine petals or with cow's water, pus discharge is destroyed.

कष्ठमाषमरीचानि तगरं मधु पिप्पली । अपामार्गोऽश्वगन्धा च बृहती सितसर्षपाः ॥ १,१७६.

Kaṣṭha, black gram, long pepper, tagara, honey, pippalī, apāmārga, ashwagandha, bṛhatī, and white mustard are used.

यवास्तिलाः सैन्धवं च पादिकोद्वर्तनं शुभम् । लिङ्गबाहुस्तनानां च कर्णयोर्वृद्धिकृद्भवेत् । कटुतैलं भल्लातकं बृहती फलदाडिमम् ॥ १,१७६.

Barley, sesame, and rock salt are excellent for massage; applying to the penis, arms, and breasts increases their size; pungent oil, bhallātaka, bṛhatī, and pomegranate are also used.

वल्कलैः साधितैर्लिप्तं लिङ्गं तेन विवर्धते ॥ १,१७६.

When the penis is anointed with oil prepared with these barks, it increases in size.

श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १७७ हरिरुवाच । सोभाञ्जनपत्ररसं मधुयुक्तं हि चक्षुषोः । भ (च) रणाद्रोगहरणं भवेन्नास्त्यत्र संशयः ॥ १,१७७.

Hari said: By applying the juice of sobhāñjana leaves mixed with honey to the eyes, diseases are removed—of this there is no doubt.

अशीतितिलपुष्पाणि जात्याश्च कुसुमापि च । उषानिम्बामलाशुण्ठीपिप्पलीतण्डुलीयकम् ॥ १,१७७.

Eighty sesame flowers, as well as the flowers of jati, and also uṣa, nimba, amalaki, dry ginger, long pepper, and rice are used.

छायासुष्कां वटीं कुर्यात्पिष्ट्वा तण्डुलवारिणा । मधुना सहसा चाक्ष्णोरञ्जनात्तिमिरादिनुत् ॥ १,१७७.

One should make a tablet by grinding these with rice water and drying in the shade; when applied to the eyes with honey, it removes darkness and similar disorders.

बिभीतकास्थिमज्जा तु शङ्खनाभिर्मनः शिला । निम्बपत्रमरीचा नि अजामूत्रेण पेषयेत् ॥ १,१७७.

Take the marrow from the bibhītaka fruit, conch powder, manaḥśilā, neem leaves, and black pepper; grind them together with goat's urine.

पुष्पं रात्र्यन्धतां हन्ति तिमिरं पटलं तथा । चतुर्भागानि शङ्खस्य तदर्धेन मनः शिला ॥ १,१७७.

This mixture destroys night-blindness and the dense veil of darkness; use four parts conch and half that amount of manaḥśilā.

सैन्धवं च तदर्धेनत्वेतत्पिष्ट्वादकेन तु । छायाशुष्कां तु वटिकां कृत्वा नयनमञ्जयेत् ॥ १,१७७.

Add half as much saindhava salt, grind all with water, and make a pill dried in the shade; apply it as collyrium to the eyes.

तिमिरं पटलं हन्ति पिचिटं च महौषधम् । त्रिकटु त्रिफलां चैव करं जस्य फलानि च ॥ १,१७७.

It destroys the dense veil of darkness and sticky eye disease; trikaṭu, triphalā, and the fruits of karanja are also great medicines.
