तैलमेतत्प्रशमयेद्वल्याक्यं राजवल्लभम् । शतावरीरसप्रस्थं क्षीरप्रस्थं तथैव च ॥ १,१७४.
This oil pacifies all wind disorders and is dear to kings; with a prastha of śatāvarī juice and an equal measure of milk,
शतपुष्पं देवदारु मांसी शैलेयकं बला । चन्दनं तगरं कुष्टं मनः शिला ज्योतिष्मती ॥ १,१७४.
Śatapuṣpa, devadāru, māṃsī, śaileyaka, balā, candana, tagara, kuṣṭha, manaḥśilā, and jyotiṣmatī—
एतैः कर्षसमैः कल्कैः घृतप्रस्थं विपाचयेत् । कुव्जवामनपङ्गूनां बधिरव्यङ्गकुष्ठिनाम् ॥ १,१७४.
With these ingredients, equal in weight to karṣa, one should cook a prastha of ghee; for those who are hunchbacked, dwarfed, lame, deaf, disabled, or afflicted with leprosy.
वायुना भग्नगात्राणां ये च सीदन्ति मैथुने । जराजर्जरगात्राणां चाध्मानमुख शोषिणाम् ॥ १,१७४.
For those whose limbs are broken by wind, who are weakened in intercourse, whose bodies are aged and frail, who are bloated or have dry mouths.
त्वग्गताश्चापि ये वाता शिरास्नायुगताश्च ये । सर्वांस्तान्नाशयत्याशु तैलं रोगकुलान्तकम् ॥ १,१७४.
The oil, which destroys all diseases, quickly eliminates all the winds lodged in the skin, as well as those in the veins and tendons.
नारायणमिदं तैलं विष्णुनोक्तं रुगर्दनम् । पृथक्तैलं घृतं कुर्यात्समस्तैरौषधैः पृथक् ॥ १,१७४.
This oil of Nārāyaṇa, spoken by Viṣṇu, dispels disease; one should separately prepare oil and ghee with all the medicines, each individually.
शतावर्या गुडूच्या वा चित्रकै गोचनान्वितैः । निर्गुण्ड्या वा प्रसारः स्यात्कण्टकार्या रसादिभिः ॥ १,१७४.
The application may be made with śatāvarī, guḍūcī, citraka, and gocanā, or with nirguṇḍī, or with kaṇṭakārī and its juices.
वर्षाभूवालया वापि वासकन फलत्रिकैः । ब्राहया चैग्ण्डकेनापि भृङ्गराजेन कुष्टिना ॥ १,१७४.
Or with varṣābhū, ālaya, vāsaka, and three fruits; also with brāhī, igṇḍaka, bhṛṅgarāja, and kuṣṭa.
मुसल्या दशमूलेन खदिरेण वटादिभिः । वटिका मोदको वापि चूर्ण स्यात्सर्वरोगनुत् ॥ १,१७४.
With musalī, daśamūla, khadira, and banyan and similar herbs; a tablet or sweet ball, or powder, is a remedy for all diseases.
घृतेन मधुना वापि अद्भिः खण्डगुडादिभिः । लवणैः कटुकैर्युक्तं यथालाभं च गेगनुत् ॥ १,१७४.
With ghee, honey, water, sugar, and similar substances; mixed with pungent salts as available, it acts as a remedy.
चित्रकार्कत्रिवृद्वापि यवानीहयमारकम् । सुधां च बालां गणिकां सप्तपर्णसुवर्चिकाम् ॥ १,१७४.
With citraka, arka, trivṛt, yavanī, hayamāraka, sudhā, bālā, gaṇikā, saptaparṇa, and suvarcikā.
ज्योतिष्मतीञ्च संभृत्य तैलं धीरो विपाचयेत् । एतन्निष्यन्दनं तैलं भृशं दद्याद्भगन्दरे ॥ १,१७४.
Having gathered jyotiṣmatī, the wise should cook oil; this extract of oil should be applied vigorously in cases of fistula.
शोधनं गेपणं चैव सर्ववर्णकरं परम् । चित्रकाद्यं महातैलं सर्वरोगप्रभञ्जनम् ॥ १,१७४.
It is supreme for purification and healing, and brings about all complexions; the great oil beginning with citraka destroys all diseases.
अजमोदं ससिन्दूरं हरितालं निशाद्वयम् । क्षारद्वयं फेनयुतमार्द्रक सर (शवः लोद्भवम् ॥ १,१७४.
Ajamoda, sindūra, haritāla, two kinds of niśā, two kinds of alkali, mixed with foam, fresh ginger, and resin from the śava tree.
इन्द्रवारुण्यपामार्गकदलैः स्यन्दनैः समम् । एभिः सर्षपजं तैलमजामूत्रैश्चयोजितम् ॥ १,१७४.
With indravāruṇī, apāmārga, banana, and their extracts; with these, mustard oil mixed with goat's urine is prepared.
मृद्वग्निना पचेदेत्गव्यक्षीरेण संयुतम् । अजमोदादिकं तैलं गण्डमालां व्यपोहति ॥ १,१७४.
One should cook it gently with cow's milk; the oil made from ajamoda and similar ingredients removes glandular swelling.
विदग्धस्तु पचेत्पक्वं चैव विशोधयेत् । रोपणं मृदुभावं च तैलेनानेन कारयेत् ॥ १,१७४.
One should cook it until well done, then purify it; using this oil, one should promote healing and softness.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १७५ रुद्र उवाच । एवं धन्वन्तरिर्विष्णुः सुश्रुतादीनुवाच ह । हरिः पुनर्हरायाह नानायोगान्रुगर्दनान् ॥ १,१७५.
Rudra said: Thus Dhanvantari, Viṣṇu, and Suśruta spoke; Hari again spoke to Hara about various remedies for diseases.
हरिरुवाच । सर्वज्वरेषु प्रथमं कार्यं शङ्कर लङ्घनम् । क्वथितोदकपानं च तथा निर्वातसेवनम् ॥ १,१७५.
Hari said: For all fevers, O Śaṅkara, the first step is fasting, drinking boiled water, and avoiding wind exposure.
अग्निस्वेदाज्ज्वरास्त्वेवं नाशमायान्तिहीश्वर । वातज्वरहरः क्वाथो गुडूच्या मुस्तकेन च ॥ १,१७५.
Fevers are destroyed by fire-sweating, O Lord; the decoction of guḍūcī and mustaka is a remedy for wind-fever.
दुरालभैश्चैव घृतं पित्तज्वरहरः शृणु । शुण्ठीपर्पटमुस्तैश्च बालकोशीरचन्दनैः ॥ १,१७५.
Hear now about ghee, difficult to obtain, which removes fevers of the pitta type, prepared with dried ginger, parpaṭa, musta, bāla, kośīra, and sandalwood.
साज्यः क्वाथः श्लेष्मजं तु सशुण्ठिः सदुरालभः । सवालकः सर्वज्ज्वरं सशुण्ठिः सहपर्पटः ॥ १,१७५.
A decoction with ghee, dried ginger, and durālabha is for phlegmatic fever; with bāla, it cures all fevers, especially when combined with dried ginger and parpaṭa.
किराततिक्तैर्नारीगुडूचीशुण्ठिमुस्तकैः । पित्तज्वरहरः स्याच्च शृण्वन्यं योगमुत्तमम् ॥ १,१७५.
A remedy for pitta fever is made from kirātatikta, nārī, guḍūcī, dried ginger, and musta; listen to this excellent formula.
वालकोशीरपाठाभिः कण्टकारिकमुस्तकैः । ज्वरनुच्च कृतः क्वाथस्तथा वै सुरदारुणा ॥ १,१७५.
A decoction made with bāla, kośīra, pāṭhā, kaṇṭakārikā, musta, and suradāru is effective for high fever.
धन्याकनिम्बमुस्तानां समधुः स तु शङ्कर । पटोलपत्रयुक्तस्तु गुडूचीत्रिफलायुतः ॥ १,१७५.
A mixture of dhanyāka, nimb, and musta with honey, or with paṭola leaves, guḍūcī, and triphalā, is beneficial, O Śaṅkara.
पीतोऽखिलज्वरहरः क्षुधाकृद्वातनुत्त्विदम् । हरीतकीपिप्लीनामामलीचित्रकोद्भवम् ॥ १,१७५.
When drunk, it removes all fevers, stimulates appetite, and alleviates wind disorders; it is made from harītakī, pippalī, āmalakī, and citraka.
चूर्णं ज्वरं च क्वथितं धान्य (धन्या) कोशीरपपर्पटैः । आमलक्या गुडूच्या च मधुयुक्तं सचन्दनम् ॥ १,१७५.
A powder or decoction for fever is made from dhanyāka, kośīra, parpaṭa, āmalakī, guḍūcī, with honey and sandalwood.
समस्तज्वरनुच्च स्यात्सन्निपातहरं शृणु । हरिद्रानिम्बत्रिफलामुस्तकैर्देवदारुणा ॥ १,१७५.
Hear now of a remedy that removes all fevers and balances the three doṣas: haridrā, nimb, triphalā, musta, and devadāru.
कषायं कटुरोहिण्या सपटोलं सपत्रकम् । त्रिदोषज्वरनुच्चस्यात्पीतं तु क्वथितं जलम् ॥ १,१७५.
A decoction of kaṭurohiṇī with paṭola and its leaves is astringent and, when drunk, removes fevers caused by all three doṣas.
कण्टकार्या नागरस्य गुडूच्या पुष्करेण च । जग्ध्वा नागबलाचूर्णं श्वसकासादिनुद्भवेत् ॥ १,१७५.
By taking a powder of kaṇṭakārikā, dried ginger, guḍūcī, and puṣkara, and consuming nāgabalā powder, one is freed from asthma, cough, and similar ailments.
