Garuda Purana

धात्री खदिरयोः क्काथं पीत्वा वागजिसंयुतम् । शङ्खेन्दुधवलं श्वित्रं हन्ति तूर्णं न संशयः ॥ १,१७१.

Drinking a decoction of dhātrī and khadira, combined with vāgajī, quickly destroys śvitra that is white as conch or the moon—there is no doubt.

पीत्वा भल्लातकं तैलं मासाद्व्याधिं जयेन्नरः । सेवितं खादिरं वारि पानाद्यैः कुष्ठजिद्भवेत् ॥ १,१७१.

By drinking oil prepared with bhallātaka for a month, a person conquers disease; likewise, using khadira with water and other drinks removes leprosy.

भावितं मलपूक्वाथैः सोमराजीफलं बहु । कर्षं भक्षेदलवणो ह्यक्षफल्गुशृतं पिबेत् ॥ १,१७१.

Soma-rājī fruit, well processed with the decoction of malapūka, should be taken in the amount of one karṣa; one should eat it with salt and drink clarified butter with akṣa and phalgu.

हन्ति श्वित्रमसाध्यं च लेपे योज्यापराजिता । वासा शुद्धा च त्रिफला पटोलं च करञ्जकम् ॥ १,१७१.

Incurable śvitra is destroyed by applying aparājitā as a paste; also, vāsā, purified triphalā, paṭola, and karañja are to be used.

निम्बाशनं कृष्णवेत्रं क्वाथकल्केन यद्धृतम् । वज्रकं तद्भवेत्कुष्ठं शतवर्षाणि जीवति ॥ १,१७१.

Eating nimbā and kṛṣṇavetra, prepared as a decoction and paste, makes the body like a diamond and cures leprosy; one lives a hundred years.

स्वरसेन च दूर्वायाः पचेत्तैलं चतुर्गुणम् । कच्छूर्विचर्चिका पामा अभ्यङ्गादेव नश्यति ॥ १,१७१.

Mix the juice of durva grass with four times its amount of oil and cook; applying this to the skin cures eczema and scabies.

द्रुमत्वगर्ककुष्ठानि लवणानि च मूत्रकम् । गम्भारिकाचित्रकैस्तैस्तैलं कुष्ठव्रणादिनुत् ॥ १,१७१.

Bark of trees, arka, kuṣṭha, salt, and urine, together with gambhārī and citraka—oil prepared from these remedies skin diseases and ulcers.

(अथाम्लपित्तचिकित्सा) धात्रीनिम्बफलं तद्वद्गोमूत्रेण च चित्रकम् । वासामृतापर्पटिकानिम्बभूनिम्बमार्करैः (वैः) । त्रिफलाकुलत्थैः क्वाथः सक्षौद्रश्चाम्लपित्तहा ॥ १,१७१.

For treatment of acid reflux: amla fruit and neem fruit, as well as citraka mixed with cow's urine, vāsā, amṛtā, parpaṭikā, neem, bhūnimba, and alkali, together with triphalā and kulattha, decocted and mixed with honey, dispel acidity.

फलत्रिकं पटोलं च तिक्तक्वाथः सितायुतः । पीतो यष्टीमधुयुतो ज्वरच्छर्द्यम्लपित्तजित् ॥ १,१७१.

A decoction of phalatrika and paṭola, bitter herbs, and sugar, when drunk with yaṣṭimadhu, conquers fever, vomiting, and acidity.

वासाघृतं तिक्तघृतं पिप्पलीघृतमेव च । अम्लपित्ते प्रयोक्तव्यं गुडकूष्माण्डकं तथा ॥ १,१७१.

Vāsā ghee, bitter ghee, and pippalī ghee, as well as guḍa and kūṣmāṇḍa, should be used for acidity.

पिप्पली मधुसंयुक्ता अम्लपित्तविनाशिनी । श्लेष्माग्निमान्द्यनुत्पथ्यापिप्पलीगुडमोदकः ॥ १,१७१.

Pippalī mixed with honey destroys acidity; pippalī, guḍa, and water are beneficial for phlegm, weak digestion, and are wholesome.

पिष्ट्वाजाजीं सधन्याकां घृप्रस्थं विपाचयेत् । कफपित्तारुचिहरं मन्दानलवमिं हरेत् ॥ १,१७१.

Grind ajājī and dhanyāka, cook them with a measure of ghee; this removes disorders of phlegm, bile, and taste, and cures weak digestion.

(इत्यम्लपित्तचिकित्सा) पिप्पल्यमृतभूनिम्बवासकारिष्टपर्पटैः । खदिरारिष्टकैः क्वाथो विस्फोटार्तिज्वरापहः ॥ १,१७१.

A decoction made from pippalī, amṛta, bhūnimba, vāsā, arishta, parpaṭa, and khadira arishta relieves eruptions, pain, and fever.

त्रिफलारससंयुक्तं सर्पिस्त्रिवृतयासह । प्रयोक्तव्यं विरेकार्थं वीसर्पज्वरशान्तये ॥ १,१७१.

Ghee mixed with triphalā juice and trivṛt should be administered for purgation, to calm erysipelas and fever.

खादिरात्रिफलारिष्टपटोलामृतवासकैः । क्वाथोऽष्टकाख्यो जयति रोमान्तिकमसूरिकाम् ॥ १,१७१.

A decoction called aṣṭaka, made from khadira, triphalā arishta, paṭola, amṛta, and vāsā, conquers measles and smallpox.

कुष्ठवीसर्पविस्फोटकण्ड्वादीनां विघातकः । लशुनानां तु चृर्णस्य घर्षो मशकनाशनः ॥ १,१७१.

It destroys skin diseases such as leprosy, erysipelas, eruptions, and itching; rubbing garlic powder removes mosquitoes.

चर्मकीलं जरुमणिं मशकांस्तिलकालकान् । उत्कृत्य शस्त्रेण दहेत्क्षागग्निभ्यामशेषतः ॥ १,१७१.

Skin tags, warts, mosquitoes, spots, and black marks should be excised with a blade and then cauterized completely with alkali and fire.

पटोलनीलीलेपः स्याज्जाल (ज्वाला) गर्दभरोगनुत् । गुञ्जाफलैः शृतं तलं भृङ्गराजरसेन तु । कण्ठ (ण्डु) दारुणकृत्कुष्ठवातव्याधिविनाशनम् ॥ १,१७१.

A paste of paṭola and nīlī cures glandular swelling in donkeys; the scalp boiled with guñjā fruit and bhṛṅgarāja juice destroys severe throat, skin, and wind disorders.

अर्कास्थिमज्जात्रिफलानालीछा भृङ्गराजकम् । जीर्णे पक्वे लौहचूर्णं काञ्जिकं कृष्णकेशकृत् ॥ १,१७१.

Arka, bone marrow, triphalā, nālīchā, and bhṛṅgarāja, when digested and cooked with iron powder and sour gruel, produce black hair.

क्षीरात्सशर्करसाद्द्विप्रस्थो मधुकात्पले । तैलम्य कुडवं पक्वं तन्नस्यं पलितापहम् ॥ १,१७१.

Oil prepared from milk with sugar, two measures of madhuka, and one measure of oil, when cooked and used as nasal drops, removes premature greyness.

मुखरोगे तु त्रिफलागण्डूषपरिधारणम् । गृहधूम यवक्षारपाठाव्योपरसाञ्जनम् ॥ १,१७१.

For mouth diseases, gargling and rinsing with triphalā, smoke from the house, barley ash, pāṭhā, and vyopara, as well as collyrium, are recommended.

तेजोदं त्रिफलालोध्रं चित्रकं चेति चूर्णितम् । सक्षौद्रं धारयेद्वक्त्रे ग्रीवादन्तास्यरोगनुत् ॥ १,१७१.

Powdered tejoda, triphalā, lodhra, and citraka mixed with honey should be held in the mouth; it cures diseases of the throat, neck, teeth, and mouth.

पटोल निम्बजम्व्वाग्रमालतीनवपल्लवाः । पञ्चपल्लवकः श्रेष्ठः कषयो मुखधावने ॥ १,१७१.

Paṭola, neem, vāgra, mālatī, and new leaves—this five-leaf mixture is excellent, astringent, and used for mouthwash.

लशुनार्द्रकशिग्रूणां पारुल्या मूलकस्य च । रुदन्त्याश्च रसः श्रेष्ठः कदुष्णः कर्णपूरणे ॥ १,१७१.

The juice of garlic, fresh ginger, drumstick, radish, and of the plant called rudantī is best; it is pungent and hot for ear filling.

तीव्रशूलोत्तरे कर्णे सशब्दे क्लेदवाहिनि । बस्तमूत्रं क्षिपेत्कोष्णं सैन्धवेनावचूर्णितम् ॥ १,१७१.

For severe pain in the ear, with noise and discharge, lukewarm urine of cow, mixed with powdered rock salt, should be instilled.

जातीपत्ररसे तैलं पक्वं पूतिककर्णजित् । शुण्ठीतैलं सार्षपं च क्रोष्णं स्यात्कर्णशूलनुत् ॥ १,१७१.

Oil cooked with the juice of jātī leaves conquers putrid ear conditions; warm oil of dry ginger and mustard alleviates ear pain.

पञ्चमूलिशृतं क्षीरं स्याच्चित्रकहरीतकी । सर्पिर्गुडः षडङ्गश्चयूषः पीनसशान्तये ॥ १,१७१.

Milk boiled with pañcamūla, with citraka, harītakī, clarified butter, jaggery, and the six-ingredient decoction, relieves nasal congestion.

अक्षिकुक्षिभवा रोगाः प्रतिश्यायव्रणज्वराः । पञ्चैते पञ्चरात्रेण प्रशमं यान्ति लङ्घनात् ॥ १,१७१.

Diseases arising in the eyes and abdomen, catarrh, ulcers, and fevers—these five are subdued within five nights by fasting.

धात्रीरसानाञ्च दृशः कोपं हरति पूरणात् । सक्षौद्रः सैन्धवो वापि शिग्रुदार्विरसाञ्जनम् ॥ १,१७१.

Instillation of the juice of emblic myrobalan removes inflammation of the eyes; or an ointment of horseradish and radish juice with honey and rock salt.
