मूलं नागरमानीतं सक्षीरं हृदयार्तिनुत् । सौवचलं तदर्धन्तु शिवानाञ्च घृतं पिबेत् ॥ १,१७०.
Nāgara root, brought and cooked with milk, relieves heart pain; half as much saindhava salt, and ghee of śiva, should be drunk.
कणापाषाणभेदैर्वा शिलाजतुकचूर्णकम् । तण्डुलीभिर्गुडेनापि मूत्रकृच्छ्रीति जीवति ॥ १,१७०.
Powder of kaṇā, pāṣāṇabheda, or śilājatu, with rice and jaggery, cures difficulty in urination and restores life.
अमृतानागरीधात्रीवाजिगन्धात्रिकण्टकाम् । प्रपिबेद्वातरेगार्तः सशूलो मूत्रकृच्छ्रवान् ॥ १,१७०.
One afflicted by wind disorders, with pain and difficulty in urination, should drink the decoction of amṛtā, nāgari, dhātrī, vājigandhā, trikantaka.
सितातुल्यो यवक्षारः सर्वकृच्छ्रनिवारणः । निदिग्धिकारसो वापि सक्षौद्रः कृच्छ्रनाशनः ॥ १,१७०.
Yavakṣāra, resembling sugar in appearance, removes all kinds of urinary difficulties; likewise, the juice of nidigdhikā with honey destroys such ailments.
लवणं त्रिफलाकल्कैर्मूत्राघातहरं स्मृतम् । मूत्रे विरुद्धे कर्पूरचूर्णं लिङ्गे प्रवेशयेत् ॥ १,१७०.
Salt combined with a paste of triphalā is known to relieve urinary retention; if urination is obstructed, camphor powder should be introduced into the urethra.
क्वाथश्च शिग्रुमूलोत्थः कटूष्णोश्मानिपातनः । सर्वमेहहरोधात्र्या रसःक्षौद्रनिशायुतः । त्रिफलादारुदार्व्यष्टक्वाथः क्षौद्रेण मेहहा ॥ १,१७०.
A decoction made from the root of śigru, hot and pungent, induces urination; the juice of dhātrī with honey and turmeric removes all urinary disorders; a decoction of triphalā, dāru, dārvī, and aśṭaka with honey cures urinary diseases.
अस्वप्नं च व्यवायं च व्यायामाश्चिन्तनानि च । स्थौल्यमिच्छन्पपरित्यक्तं क्रमेणाभिप्रवर्धयेत् ॥ १,१७०.
One who desires to reduce obesity should gradually increase wakefulness, sexual restraint, exercise, and contemplation, while giving up excessive food.
यवश्यामाकभोजी स्यास्थौल्यकृन्मधुवारिणा । उष्णमन्नं समण्डं वा पिबन्कृशतनुर्भवेत् ॥ १,१७०.
A person who eats barley and śyāmāka, which cause leanness, and drinks honeyed water or hot food with broth, will become thin.
सचव्यजीरकं व्योषा हिङ्गुसौवर्चलामलाः । मधुना रक्तवः पीता मेधोघ्ना सर्वदीपनाः ॥ १,१७०.
Powders of cavyā, jīraka, vyoṣa, hiṅgu, sauvarcala, and āmalaka, taken with honey, purify the blood, destroy fat, and stimulate digestion in all ways.
चतुर्गुणे जले मूत्रे द्विगुणे चित्रकाणि च । कल्कैः सिद्ध घृत प्रस्थं सक्षीरं जठरी पिबेत् ॥ १,१७०.
In four times as much water and twice as much urine, cook pieces of citraka; prepare a paste, and drink one prastha of clarified butter with milk for abdominal disorders.
क्रमवृद्ध्या दशाहानि दश पैप्पालिकं दिनम् । वर्धयेत्पयसा सार्धं तथैवापानयेत्पुनः ॥ १,१७०.
For ten days, gradually increasing, take ten paippālika each day with milk; then, in the same way, reduce the dose.
क्षीरषष्टिकभोजीस्यादेवं कृष्णसहस्रकम् । बृंहणं मुद्गमायुष्यं प्लीहोदरविनाशनम् ॥ १,१७०.
One who eats rice cooked in milk for a thousand days gains nourishment, longevity, and the destruction of spleen and abdominal diseases.
पुनर्नवाक्वाथकल्कैः सिद्धं शोथहरं घृतम् । गावा मत्रेण संसेव्यं पिप्पली वा पयोऽन्विताः । गुडन वाभयां तुल्यां विश्वं वा शोथरोगिणा ॥ १,१७०.
Clarified butter prepared with the decoction and paste of punarnavā removes swelling; it should be used with cow's urine, or pippalī with milk, or guḍa and harītakī in equal measure, or viśva, by those suffering from swelling.
तैलमेरण्डजं पीत्वा बलासिद्धं पयोऽन्वितम् । आध्मानशूलोपचितामन्त्रवृद्धिञ्जयेन्नरः ॥ १,१७०.
By drinking castor oil, prepared with balā and milk, a person overcomes abdominal distension, pain, and accumulation of fluids.
भ्रष्टोरुचकतैलेन कल्कः पथ्यासमुद्भवः । कृष्णसैन्धवसंयुक्तो वद्धिरोगहरः परः ॥ १,१७०.
A paste made from pathyā, fried with mustard oil and mixed with black salt, is an excellent remedy for abdominal disorders.
निर्गुण्डीमूलनस्येन गण्डमाला विनश्यति । स्मुहीगण्डीरिकास्वेदो नाशयेदर्बुदानि च ॥ १,१७०.
By applying the root of nirguṇḍī, glandular swellings are destroyed; fomentation with the leaves of smuhī and gaṇḍīrikā also removes tumors.
हस्तिकर्णपलाशस्य गलगण्डं तु लेपतः । धत्तूरैरण्डनिर्गुण्डीवर्षाभूशिग्रुसर्षपैः ॥ १,१७०.
Applying a paste of hastikarṇapalāśa to the neck, along with dhattūra, eraṇḍa, nirguṇḍī, varṣābhū, śigru, and mustard, treats goiter.
प्रलेपःश्लीपदं हन्ति चिरोत्थमतिदारुणम् । शोभाञ्जनकसिन्धृत्थहिङ्गुं विद्रधिनाशनम् ॥ १,१७०.
A poultice destroys chronic and severe elephantiasis; a mixture of śobhāñjana, rock salt, and hiṅgu cures abscesses.
शरपुङ्खा मधुयुता यात्सर्स्वव्रणगेपणी । निम्बपत्रस्य वालेपः श्वयथुव्रणगेपणः ॥ १,१७०.
A paste of śarapuṅkhā with honey heals all types of wounds and ulcers; likewise, an application of nimbapatra treats swelling and ulcers.
त्रिफला खदिरो दार्वो न्यग्रोधो व्रणशोधनः । सद्यः क्षतं व्रणं वैद्यः सशूलं परिषेचयेत् ॥ १,१७०.
Triphalā, khadira, dāru, and nyagrodha cleanse wounds; the physician should immediately irrigate a fresh wound, even if it is painful.
यष्टीमधुकयुक्तेन किञ्चिदुष्णेन सर्पिषा । बुद्ध्वागन्तुव्रणान्वैद्यो घृतक्षौद्रसमन्विताम् ॥ १,१७०.
The physician, having recognized wounds caused by external agents, should apply a mixture of ghee and honey, slightly warm, together with licorice.
शीतां क्रियां प्रयुञ्जीत पित्तरक्तोष्मनाशिनीम् । क्वाथो वंशत्वगेरण्डश्वदंष्ट्रवनिदाकृतः ॥ १,१७०.
One should employ a cooling treatment that destroys heat, blood, and bile; a decoction prepared from bamboo, castor, and dog-tooth grass.
सहिङ्गुसैन्धवः पीतः कोष्ठस्थं स्त्रावयेदसृक् । यवकोलकुलत्थानां निःस्नेहेन रसेन वा ॥ १,१७०.
Taken with asafoetida and rock salt, it expels blood retained in the bowels; or with the juice of barley, jujube, and horse gram, without oil.
भुञ्जीतान्नं यवाग्वा वा पिवेत्सैन्धवसंयुतम् । करञ्जारिष्टनिर्गुण्डीरसो हन्याद्व्रणक्रिमीन् ॥ १,१७०.
One may eat food made from barley or drink it mixed with rock salt; the juice of karanja, arishta, and nirgunḍī destroys worms in wounds.
त्रिफलाचूर्णसंयुक्तो गुग्गुलुर्वटकीकृतः । निर्यन्त्रणो विबन्धघ्नो व्रधनगेपणः ॥ १,१७०.
Guggulu prepared with triphala powder and made into pills, without restriction, removes obstruction and is effective for wounds and swelling.
दूर्वास्वरससिद्धं वा तलं कम्पिल्लकेन वा । दार्वोत्वचश्च कल्केन प्रधानं व्रणरोपणम् ॥ १,१७०.
A paste prepared with the juice of dūrvā grass or with kampillaka, and with the bark of dārvā, is the principal remedy for healing wounds.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १७१ धन्वन्तरिरुवाच । नाडीव्रणादिरोगाणां चिकित्सां शृणु सुश्रुत । नाडीं शस्त्रेण संपाट्य नाजीनां व्रणवत्क्रिया ॥ १,१७१.
Dhanvantari said: Hear the treatment for fistula and related diseases, O Suśruta. After opening the fistula with a surgical instrument, treat it as a wound.
गुग्गुलुत्रिफलाव्योपैः समांशैराज्ययोजितैः । नाडीदुष्टव्रणं शूलं भगन्दरमथो जयेत् ॥ १,१७१.
A mixture of guggulu, triphala, and vyosha in equal parts, combined with ghee, cures painful, diseased fistula and also bhagandara.
निर्गुण्डीरसतस्तैलं नाडीदुष्टव्रणापहम् । हितं पामामयानां तु पानाभ्यञ्जननावनैः ॥ १,१७१.
Oil prepared from the juice of nirgunḍī removes diseased fistula; it is beneficial for those afflicted with skin diseases, for drinking, anointing, and nasal application.
गग्गुत्रिफलाकृष्णात्रिपञ्चैकांशयोजिता । घुटि (गुडि) काशोथगुल्मार्शोभगन्दरवतां हिता ॥ १,१७१.
A mixture of guggulu, triphala, kṛṣṇā, and tripañca in equal parts is beneficial for tumors, swelling, and bhagandara when made into pills.
