कुष्ठमेहज्वरश्वासकासपित्तकफापहम् । सर्वदोषहरं हृद्यं कूष्माण्डं बस्तिशोधनम् ॥ १,१६९.
Kūṣmāṇḍa removes skin diseases, urinary disorders, fever, breathlessness, cough, bile, and phlegm; it is wholesome, removes all disorders, and cleanses the bladder.
कलिङ्गालाबुनी पित्तनाशिनी वातकारिणी । त्रपुषोर्वारुके वातश्लेष्मले पित्तवारणे ॥ १,१६९.
Kaliṅga and ālabunī destroy bile and provoke wind; trapuṣa and urvāruka counteract wind and phlegm, and restrain bile.
वृक्षाम्लं कफवातघ्नं जम्बीरं कफवातनुत् । वातघ्नं दाडिमं ग्राहि नागरङ्गफलं गुरु ॥ १,१६९.
Vṛkṣāmla dispels phlegm and wind; jambīra reduces phlegm and wind; dāḍima counters wind and is binding, while nāgaraṅga fruit is heavy.
केशरं मातुलुङ्गं च दीपनं कफवातनुत् । वातपित्तहरो माषस्त्वक्स्निग्धोष्णानिलापहः ॥ १,१६९.
Keśara and mātuluṅga stimulate digestion and reduce phlegm and wind; māṣa removes wind and bile, is oily, warm, and alleviates wind.
सरमामलकं वृष्यं मधुरं हृद्यमम्लकृत् । भुक्तप्ररोचका पुण्या हरीतक्यमृतोपमा ॥ १,१६९.
Saramāmalaka is aphrodisiac, sweet, wholesome, and produces sourness; harītaki, praised as virtuous and comparable to nectar, enhances appetite after eating.
स्त्रंसनी कफवातघ्नी ह्यक्षस्तद्वत्त्रिदोषजित् । वातश्लेष्महरं त्वम्लं स्त्रंसनं तिन्तिडीफलम् ॥ १,१६९.
Straṃsanī counters phlegm and wind; akṣa likewise conquers all three doshas; tintiḍī fruit is sour, removes wind and phlegm, and acts as a laxative.
दोषलं लकुचं स्वादु बकुलं कफवातजित् । गुल्मवातकफश्वासकासघ्नं बीजपूरकम् ॥ १,१६९.
Lakuca is disorder-causing and sweet; bakula counters phlegm and wind; bījapūraka destroys abdominal swelling, wind, phlegm, breathlessness, and cough.
कपित्थं ग्राहि दोषघ्नं पक्वं गुरु विषापहम् । कफपित्तकरं बालमापूर्णं पित्तवर्धनम् ॥ १,१६९.
Kapittha is binding, removes disorders, ripe is heavy and antidotal; unripe increases phlegm and bile, and augments bile when fully matured.
पक्वाम्रं वातकृन्मांसशुक्रवर्णबलप्रदम् । वातघ्नं कफपित्तघ्नं ग्राहि विष्टम्भि जाम्बवम् ॥ १,१६९.
Ripe mango increases wind, flesh, semen, color, and strength; jāmbava counters wind, phlegm, and bile, is binding and causes constipation.
तिन्दुकं कफवातघ्नं बदरं वातपित्तहृत् । विष्टम्भि वातलं बिल्वं प्रियालं पवनापहम् ॥ १,१६९.
Tinduka dispels phlegm and wind; badara removes wind and bile; bilva is constipating and windy; priyāla alleviates wind.
राजादनफलं मोचं पनसं नारिकेलजम् । शुक्रमांसकराण्याहुः स्वादुस्निग्धगुरूणि च ॥ १,१६९.
Rājādana fruit, moca, panasa, and coconut are said to increase semen and flesh, and are sweet, oily, and heavy.
द्राक्षामधूकखर्जूरं कुङ्कुमं वातरक्तजित् । मागधी मधुरा पक्वा श्वासपित्तहरा परा ॥ १,१६९.
Grapes, madhūka, and dates, as well as saffron, conquer wind and blood disorders; ripe māgadhī is sweet and excellent, removing breathlessness and bile.
आर्द्रकं रोचकं वृष्यं दीपनं कफवातहृत् । शुण्ठीमरिचपिप्पल्यः कफवातजितो मताः ॥ १,१६९.
Fresh ginger is appetizing, invigorating, kindles the digestive fire, and alleviates phlegm and wind; dried ginger, black pepper, and long pepper are considered to conquer phlegm and wind.
अवृष्यं मरिचं विद्यादिति वैद्यकसंमतम् । गुल्मशूलविबन्धघ्नं हिङ्गुवातकफापहम् ॥ १,१६९.
Black pepper is regarded by physicians as not invigorating, but it is known to destroy abdominal tumors and pain, and asafoetida removes wind and phlegm.
यवानीधन्यकाजाज्यः वातश्लेष्मनुदः परम् । चक्षुष्यं सैन्धवं वृष्यं त्रिदोषशमनं स्मृतम् ॥ १,१६९.
Ajwain, coriander, and cumin are foremost in dispelling wind and phlegm; rock salt is beneficial for the eyes, invigorating, and is remembered as pacifying all three doshas.
सौवर्चलं विबन्धघ्नमुष्णं हृच्छूलनाशनम् । उष्णं शूलहरं तीक्ष्णं विडङ्गं वातनाशनम् ॥ १,१६९.
Sauvarchala salt relieves constipation, is heating, and removes heart pain; vidanga is heating, relieves pain, is sharp, and destroys wind.
रोमकं वातलं स्वादु रोचनं क्लेदनं गुरु । हृत्पाण्डुगलरोगघ्नं यवक्षारोऽग्निदीपनः ॥ १,१६९.
Romaka salt is windy, sweet, appetizing, moistening, and heavy; barley alkali removes heart disease, anemia, and throat disorders, and stimulates the digestive fire.
दहनो दीपनस्तीक्ष्णः सर्जिक्षारो विदारणः । दोषघ्नं नाभसं वारिलघु हृद्यं विषापहम् ॥ १,१६९.
Sodium carbonate is heating, stimulating, sharp, and penetrative; it destroys doshas, is light, agreeable, and removes poisons.
नादेयं वातलं रूक्षं सारसं मदुर लघु । वातश्लेष्महरं वार्प्यं ताडागं वातलं स्मृतम् ॥ १,१६९.
River water is windy, dry, pure, sweet, and light; it removes wind and phlegm, while pond water is considered windy and to be avoided.
रौच्यमग्निकरं रूक्षं कफघ्नंलघु नैर्झरम् । दीपनं पित्तलं कौपमौद्भिदं पित्तनाशनम् ॥ १,१६९.
Spring water is appetizing, kindles the digestive fire, is dry, destroys phlegm, and is light; well water is stimulating and removes bile, while rainwater is known to destroy bile.
दिवार्ककिरणैर्जुष्टं रात्रौ चैवेन्दुरश्मिभिः । सर्वदोषविनिर्मुक्तं तत्तुल्यं गगनाम्बुना ॥ १,१६९.
Water that has been exposed to the rays of the sun by day and the moon by night is free from all doshas, and is considered equal to rainwater.
उष्णं वारि ज्वरश्वासमेदोऽनिलकफापहम् । शृतं शीतत्रिदोषघ्नमुषितं तच्च दोषलम् ॥ १,१६९.
Hot water removes fever, breathlessness, fat, wind, and phlegm; boiled water destroys cold and all three doshas, but water left standing becomes harmful.
गोक्षीरं वातपित्तग्नं स्निग्धं गुरुरसायनम् । गव्याद्गुरुतरं स्निग्धं माहिष्वह्निनाशनम् ॥ १,१६९.
Cow's milk removes wind and bile, is unctuous, heavy, and rejuvenating; buffalo milk is heavier and more unctuous than cow's, and destroys digestive fire.
छागं रक्तातिसारघ्नं कासश्वासकफापहम् । चक्षुष्यं जीवनं स्त्रीणां रक्तपित्ते चनावनम् ॥ १,१६९.
Goat's milk removes bloody diarrhea, cough, breathlessness, and phlegm; it is good for the eyes, nourishing for women, and beneficial in bleeding disorders.
परं वातहरं वृष्यं पित्तश्लेष्मकरं दधि । दोषघ्नं मन्थजातन्तु मस्तु स्रोतोविशोधनम् ॥ १,१६९.
Curd is highly wind-pacifying and invigorating, but increases bile and phlegm; but buttermilk and whey destroy doshas and purify the channels.
ग्रहण्यर्शोऽर्दितार्तिघ्नं नवनीतं नवोद्धृतम् । विकाराश्च किलाटाद्या गुरवः कुष्ठहेतवः ॥ १,१६९.
Freshly churned butter removes disorders of the intestines, hemorrhoids, and pain; but old butter and similar substances are heavy and cause skin diseases.
परं ग्रहणीशोथार्शः पाण्ड्वतीसारगुल्मनुत् । त्रिदोषशमनं तक्रं कथितं पूर्वसूरिभिः ॥ १,१६९.
Buttermilk is said by ancient sages to be excellent for disorders of the intestines, swelling, hemorrhoids, anemia, diarrhea, and abdominal tumors, and it pacifies all three doshas.
वृष्यञ्च मधुरं सर्पिर्वातपित्तकफापहम् । गव्यं मेध्यञ्च चाक्षुष्यं संस्काराच्च त्रिदोषजित् ॥ १,१६९.
Ghee is invigorating and sweet, removes wind, bile, and phlegm; cow's ghee is good for the mind and eyes, and when properly prepared, conquers all three doshas.
अपस्मारगदोन्मादमूर्छाघ्नं संस्कृतङ्घृतम् । अजादीनाञ्च सर्पोषि विद्याद्गोक्षीरसद्गुणैः । कफवातहरं मूत्रं सर्वक्रिमिविषापहम् ॥ १,१६९.
Clarified butter, when prepared, removes epilepsy, poisoning, insanity, and fainting; ghee from goats and other animals is known to have the good qualities of cow's milk; urine removes wind and phlegm, and destroys all worms and poisons.
पाण्डुत्वोदरकुष्ठार्शः शोथगुल्मप्रमेहनुत् । वातश्लेष्महरं बल्यं तैलं कश्यं तिलोद्भवम् ॥ १,१६९.
Sesame oil removes anemia, abdominal swelling, skin diseases, hemorrhoids, swelling, abdominal tumors, and urinary disorders; it destroys wind and phlegm, strengthens the body, and is considered best.
