धातूनां स्पर्शशैथिल्यमामजश्च गुणक्षयः । ततोऽल्परक्तमेदोऽस्थिनिः सारः स्याच्छ्लथेन्द्रियः ॥ १,१६२.
There is looseness of touch in the tissues, loss of qualities due to undigested matter, and thus little blood, fat, and bone remain, with weakened senses.
शीर्यमाणैरिवाङ्गैस्तु द्रवता हृदयेन च । शूलोक्षिकूटवदने स्तैमित्यं तत्र लालया ॥ १,१६२.
With limbs as if decaying, and the heart melting, the mouth is dry and parched, and there is stiffness with drooling.
हीनतृट्शिशिरद्वेषी शीर्णलोभो हतानलः । मन्दशक्तिर्ज्वरी श्वासी कर्णशूली तथा भ्रमी ॥ १,१६२.
He has little thirst, dislikes cold, lacks desire, has impaired digestion, is weak, feverish, short of breath, has ear pain, and dizziness.
स पञ्चधा पृथग्दोषैः समस्तैर्मृत्तिकादनात् । प्राग्रूपमस्य हृदयस्पन्दनं रूक्षता त्वचि ॥ १,१६२.
This disease is fivefold, caused by separate humors or all together, and by eating clay; its early signs are palpitations of the heart and dryness of the skin.
अरुचिः पीतमूत्रत्वं स्वेदाभावोऽल्पमृत्रता । मेदः समानिलात्तत्र गाढरुक्क्लेदगात्रता ॥ १,१६२.
There is loss of appetite, yellow urine, absence of sweat, scanty urination; when fat is affected by wind, the body becomes very dry, rough, and moist.
कृष्णेक्षणं कृष्णशिरानखविण्मूत्रनेत्रता । शोथो नासास्यवैरस्यं विट्शोषः पार्श्वमूर्छना ॥ १,१६२.
The eyes, veins, nails, urine, and eyes become black; there is swelling, aversion to smells and tastes, dryness of stool, and fainting in the sides.
पित्ते हरितपित्ताभः शिरादिषु ज्वरस्तमः । तृट्शोषमूर्छादौर्गन्ध्यं शीतेच्छा कटुवक्रता ॥ १,१६२.
When bile is predominant, the fever appears yellowish-green in the head and other parts; there is thirst, dryness, fainting, foul smell, desire for cold, bitterness, and a crooked taste.
विड्भेदश्चाम्लको दाहः कफाच्च हृदयार्द्रता । तन्द्रा लवणवक्रत्वं रोमहर्षः स्वरक्षयः ॥ १,१६२.
There is diarrhea, sourness, burning sensation, and due to phlegm, moistness of the heart; drowsiness, a salty and crooked taste, horripilation, and loss of voice.
काशश्छर्दिश्च निचयान्नष्टलिङ्गोऽतिदुः सहः । उत्कृष्टेनिलपित्ताभ्या कटुर्वा मधुरः कफः ॥ १,१६२.
There is cough and vomiting, and in some cases, the symptoms disappear entirely and are extremely difficult to endure; when bile and wind are greatly aggravated, the phlegm is either bitter or sweet.
दूषयित्वा वसादींश्च रौक्ष्याद्रक्तविमोक्षणम् । स्रोतसां संक्षयं कुर्यादनुरुध्य च पूर्ववत् ॥ १,१६२.
After corrupting the fats and similar tissues, due to dryness, bloodletting is indicated; it causes depletion of the channels, and, as before, the symptoms persist.
पाण्डुरोगेक्षयेजाते नाभिपादास्यमेहनम् । पुरीषं कृमिवन्मुञ्चेद्भिन्नं सास्त्रं कफान्वितम् ॥ १,१६२.
In the disease of anemia and consumption, the navel, feet, mouth, and urinary tract are affected; the stool is passed like that of worms, broken, mixed with mucus.
यः पित्तरोगी सेवेत पित्तलं तस्य कामलम् । कोष्ठशा खोद्गतं पित्तं दग्ध्वासृङ्मांसमाहरेत् ॥ १,१६२.
If a person afflicted with bile consumes bile-increasing substances, jaundice arises for him; the bile, having entered the intestines, burns and draws out blood and flesh.
हारिद्रमूत्रनेत्रत्वं मुखं रक्तं शकृत्तथा । दाही विपाकतृष्णावान् भेकाभो दुर्बलेन्द्रियः ॥ १,१६२.
There is yellow coloration of urine and eyes, redness of the mouth and stool; the person experiences burning, abnormal digestion, thirst, a frog-like appearance, and weakened senses.
भवेत्पित्तानुगः शोथः पाण्डुरोगावृतस्य च । उपेक्षया च शोथाद्याः सकृच्छ्राः कुम्भकामलाः ॥ १,१६२.
Swelling associated with bile occurs in one suffering from anemia; due to neglect, swellings and similar conditions arise, which are difficult to treat, such as dropsy and severe jaundice.
हरितश्यामपित्तत्वे पाण्डुरोगो यदा भवेत् । वातपित्ते भ्रमस्तृष्णा स्त्रीषु हर्षो मृदुज्वरः ॥ १,१६२.
When anemia is accompanied by greenish or dark bile, and when wind and bile are involved, there is dizziness, thirst, sexual excitement in women, and mild fever.
तन्द्रा वा चानलभ्रंशस्तं वदन्ति हलीमकम् । आलस्यञ्चातिभवति तेषां पूर्वमुपद्रवः ॥ १,१६२.
If there is drowsiness or loss of digestive fire, that is called halīmaka; excessive laziness is an early complication for them.
शोथः प्रधानः कथितः स एवातो निगद्यते । पित्तरक्तकफान्वायुर्दुष्टो दुष्टान्बहिः शिराः ॥ १,१६२.
Swelling is described as the main disorder, and it is now explained: when bile, blood, phlegm, and wind are corrupted, they carry the corrupted substances into the external veins.
नीत्वा रुद्धगतिस्तैर्हि कुर्यात्त्वङ्मांससंश्रयम् । उत्सेधं संहतं शोथं तमाहुर्निचयादतः ॥ १,१६२.
Having brought them there, they obstruct the flow, and cause the swelling to settle in the skin and flesh; this compact, raised swelling is called by some as accumulation.
सर्वहेतुविशषैस्तु रूपभेदान्नवात्मकम् । दोषैः पृथग्विधैः सर्वैरभिघाताद्विषादपि ॥ १,१६२.
Due to all causes, with various forms and natures, and by all the different humors, as well as from injury or poison, such swellings arise.
तदेव नीयमानन्तु सर्वाङ्गे कामजम्भवेत् । पृथून्नताग्रग्रथितैर्विशेषैश्च त्रिधा विदुः ॥ १,१६२.
When this is carried throughout the body, it manifests as kāmajaundice; with broad, raised, and knotted features, it is known in three types.
सामान्यहेतुः शोथानां दोषजातो विशेषतः । व्याधिः कर्मोपवासादिक्षीणस्य भवति द्रुतम् ॥ १,१६२.
The general cause of swellings is the disturbance of the humors; in particular, disease quickly arises in those weakened by actions such as fasting.
अतिमात्रं यदासेवेद्गुरुमत्यन्तशीतलम् । लवणक्षारतीक्ष्णाम्लशाकाम्बुस्वप्नजागरम् ॥ १,१६२.
When one excessively consumes heavy or extremely cold foods, or salty, alkaline, pungent, sour vegetables, water, or engages in irregular sleep and wakefulness,
रोधो वेगस्य वल्लूरमजीर्णश्रममैथुनम् । पच्यते मार्गगमनं यानेन क्षोभिणापि वा ॥ १,१६२.
Suppression of natural urges, eating tough meat, indigestion, fatigue, sexual activity, travel, or agitation by vehicles—these all contribute.
श्वासकासातिसारार्शोजठरप्रदरज्वराः । विष्टम्भालस्यकच्छर्दिहिक्कापाण्डुविसर्पकम् ॥ १,१६२.
Shortness of breath, cough, diarrhea, hemorrhoids, abdominal diseases, fever, bloating, laziness, vomiting, hiccup, anemia, and spreading skin diseases arise.
ऊर्ध्वशोथमधो बस्तौ मध्ये कुर्वन्ति मध्यगाः । सर्वाङ्गगः सर्वगतः प्रत्यप्रत्यगेति तदाश्रयः ॥ १,१६२.
When swelling occurs above, below, or in the middle of the bladder, and is situated in the center, it is called 'sarvāṅgaga' if it affects the whole body, 'sarvagata' if it is widespread, and 'pratyapratyag' if it is localized.
तत्पूर्वरूपं क्षवथुः शिरायामङ्गगौरवम् । वाताच्छोथश्चलो रूक्षः खररोमारुणोऽसितः ॥ १,१६२.
Its early symptoms include sneezing, heaviness in the head and limbs, swelling caused by wind that is mobile, dry, with rough hair, reddish or dark in color.
शङ्खबस्त्यन्त्रशोफर्तिमेदोभेदाः प्रसुप्तिता । वातोत्तानः क्लमः शीघ्रमुन्नमेत्पीडितां तनुम् ॥ १,१६२.
Swelling of the bladder, joints, and fat tissue, numbness, upward movement of wind, exhaustion, and rapid aggravation arise, causing distress to the afflicted body.
सिग्धस्तु मर्दनैः शाम्येद्रात्रावल्पो दिवा महान् । त्वक्सर्षपविलिप्ते च तस्मिंश्चिमिचिमायते ॥ १,१६२.
If the swelling is oily, it subsides with massage, being small at night and large during the day; when the skin is smeared with mustard oil, it tingles.
पीतरक्तासिंताभासः पित्तजातश्च शोषकृत् । शीघ्रं नासौ वा प्रशमेन्मध्ये प्राग्दहते तनुम् ॥ १,१६२.
When caused by bile, the swelling appears yellowish-red, produces dryness, does not subside quickly or at all, and burns the body from within.
सतृट्दाहज्वरस्वेदो भ्रमक्लोदमदभ्रमाः । साभिलाषी शकृद्भेदो गन्धः स्पर्शसहो मृदुः ॥ १,१६२.
There is thirst, burning, fever, sweating, dizziness, moistness, faintness, desire, diarrhea, a smell, tenderness to touch, and softness.
