सरक्तमतिदुर्गन्धं तृण्मूर्छास्वेददाहवान् । सशूलपायुसन्तापपाकवाञ्छ्लेष्मणा घनम् ॥ १,१५७.
It is blood-stained, extremely foul-smelling, mixed with undigested grass, accompanied by sweating and burning; there is pain, heat in the rectum, a desire for pungent tastes, and thick phlegm.
पिच्छिलं तत्रानुसारमल्पाल्पं सप्रवाहिकम् । सरोमहर्पः सेक्लेशो गुरुबस्तिगुदोदरः ॥ १,१५७.
There, the discharge is slimy, scanty, and flowing; it causes hair loss, severe discomfort, and heaviness in the bladder, anus, and abdomen.
कृतेऽप्यकृतसङ्गश्च सर्वात्मा सर्वलक्षणः । भयेन क्षुभिते चित्ते शायिते द्रावयेत्स (च्छ) कृत् ॥ १,१५७.
Even when performed, if not properly assimilated, it affects the entire being with all its signs; when the mind is disturbed by fear and the person lies down, it is expelled.
वायुस्ततो निवार्येत क्षिप्रमुष्णं द्रवं प्लवम् । वातपित्ते समं लिङ्गमाहुस्तद्वच्च शोकतः ॥ १,१५७.
Then, wind should be restrained quickly with warm, liquid, and light substances; the signs are similar in wind and bile disorders, and likewise in grief.
अतीसारः समासेन द्वेधा सामो निरामकः । सासृग्जातं रसद्रोगो गौरवादप्सु मुञ्चति? । शकृद्दुर्गन्धमाटोपविष्टम्भार्तिप्रसेकिनः ॥ १,१५७.
In summary, diarrhea is of two types: with impurity and without impurity; when mixed with blood, it is a disorder of the fluids, and due to heaviness, it is released into water; the stool is foul-smelling, noisy, obstructed, and causes pain.
विपरीतो निरामस्तु कफात्कोऽपि न मज्जति । अतीसारेषु यो नाति यत्नवान् ग्रहणीगदः ॥ १,१५७.
The opposite, without impurity, is caused by phlegm, but does not sink; among diarrheas, one who is not very careful becomes afflicted with grahani disease.
तस्य स्यादग्निनिर्वाणकार्यैरत्यर्थसञ्चितैः । सामं शकृन्निरामं वा जीर्णं येनातिसार्यते ॥ १,१५७.
For him, due to excessive accumulation of factors that extinguish the digestive fire, whether the stool is impure or pure, it is digested and then expelled as diarrhea.
सोऽतिसारोऽतिसरणा दाशुकारीः स्वभावतः । सामंशीर्णमजीर्णेन जीर्णे पक्वं तु नैव च ॥ १,१५७.
This diarrhea, by its nature, causes excessive discharge; when mixed with impurity, it is undigested, but when digested, it is not so.
चिरकृद्ग्रहणीदोषः सञ्चयांश्चोपवेशयेत् । अकस्माद्वारसुर्वेधमकस्मात्सन्धिनीमुहुः? । स चतुर्धा पृथग्दोषैः सन्निपाताच्च जायते ॥ १,१५७.
Long-standing grahani disorder causes accumulation and compels fasting; sometimes there is sudden trembling, sometimes sudden joint pain; it arises in four ways according to the different humors, and also from their combination.
प्राग्रूपाङ्गस्य सदनं चिरात्पवन अल्पकः । प्रसेको वक्त्रवैरस्यमरुचिस्तृट्श्रमोभ्रमः ॥ १,१५७.
The early symptoms are weakness of the limbs, persistent wind, slight salivation, bad taste in the mouth, loss of appetite, thirst, fatigue, and dizziness.
आब (न) द्धोदरता छर्दिः कर्णकेऽप्यनुकूजकम् । सामान्यलक्षणं कार्श्यं वमक स्तमको ज्वरः ॥ १,१५७.
There is abdominal distension, vomiting, and sometimes ringing in the ears; the general signs are emaciation, nausea, fainting, and fever.
मूर्छा शिरोरुविष्टम्भः श्वयथुः करपादयोः । तन्द्रानिलात्तालुशोषस्तिमिरं कर्णयोः स्वनः ॥ १,१५७.
There is fainting, heaviness in the head and thighs, swelling of the hands and feet, drowsiness from wind, dryness of the palate, darkness before the eyes, and ringing in the ears.
पार्श्वोरुवङ्क्षणग्रीवारुजा तीक्ष्णविषूचिका । रुग्णेषु वृद्धिः सर्वषु क्षुत्तृष्णापरिहर्त्रिका ॥ १,१५७.
There is pain in the sides, groin, and neck, severe colic, and in the sick, an increase of all symptoms, with hunger and thirst that cannot be relieved.
जीर्णेजीर्यति चाध्मानं भुक्ते स्वास्थ्यं समश्नुते । वाताद्धृद्रोगगुल्मार्शःप्लीहपाण्डुरशङ्किताः ॥ १,१५७.
When digested, there is flatulence; after eating, well-being is attained; due to wind, there is risk of heart disease, abdominal tumors, hemorrhoids, spleen disorders, and anemia.
चिराद्दुः खं द्रवं शुष्कं तुन्दारं शब्दफेनवत् । पुनः पुनः सृजेद्वर्चं पायुरुच्छ्वासकासवान् ॥ १,१५७.
After a long time, the stool is thin, liquid, dry, hard, noisy, and frothy; again and again, he passes stool, with difficulty in the anus, and suffers from breathlessness and cough.
पीतेन पीतनीलाभं पीताभं सृजति द्रवम् । पूत्यम्लोद्गारहृत्कण्ठदाहारुचितृडर्दितः ॥ १,१५७.
With yellow or yellowish-blue color, he passes liquid stool; there is putrid, sour belching, burning in the heart and throat, loss of appetite, thirst, and pain.
श्लेष्मणा पच्यते दुःखे मनश्छर्दिररोचकः । आस्योपदाहनिष्ठीवकासहृल्लासपीनसाः ॥ १,१५७.
Due to phlegm, digestion is painful, the mind is nauseated, there is vomiting, loss of appetite, sticky saliva, spitting, cough, palpitations, and nasal discharge.
हृदयं मन्यते स्त्यानमुदरं स्तिमितं गुरु । उद्गारो दुष्टमधुरः सदनं सप्रहर्षणम् ॥ १,१५७.
The heart feels stiff, the abdomen is numb and heavy, the belching is foul and sweet, there is weakness, and sometimes exhilaration.
सम्भिन्नश्लेष्मसंश्लिष्टगुरुचाम्लैः (वर्चः) प्रवर्तचम् । अकृशस्यापि दौर्बल्यं सर्वजे सर्वदर्शनम् ॥ १,१५७.
When the feces are mixed, sticky, heavy, or sour, even in one who is not emaciated, there is weakness, and all diseases and symptoms are seen.
विभागेऽङ्गस्य ये प्रोक्ता पिपासाद्यास्त्रयो मलाः । तेऽप्यस्य ग्रहणीदोषाः समन्तेष्वस्ति कारणम् ॥ १,१५७.
The three impurities—thirst and others—described in the division of the body, are also caused by disorders of the grahaṇī, and are present everywhere as their cause.
वातव्याध्यश्मरीकुष्ठमेहोदरभगन्दरम् । अर्शांसि ग्रहणीत्यष्टौ महारोगाः सुदुस्तराः ॥ १,१५७.
Diseases of wind, urinary stones, leprosy, diabetes, abdominal swelling, foul odor, hemorrhoids, and grahaṇī—these eight great diseases are extremely difficult to overcome.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १५८ धन्वन्तरिरुवाच । अथातो मूत्रघातस्य निदानं शृणु सुश्रुत । बस्तिबस्तिशिरोमेढ्रकटीवृषणपायु च ॥ १,१५८.
Dhanvantari said: Now, O Suśruta, listen to the causes of urinary retention. The bladder, the neck of the bladder, the penis, the loins, the testicles, and the anus—
एकसंवहनाः प्रोक्ता गुदास्थिविवराश्रयाः । अधोमुखोऽपि बस्तिर्हि मूत्रवाहिशिरामुखैः ॥ १,१५८.
Are said to be supported by single channels, situated in the cavities of the rectum and bones; even the bladder faces downward with the openings of the urinary veins.
पार्श्वेभ्यः पूर्यते श्लक्ष्णै (सूक्ष्मैः) स्यन्दमानैरनारतम् । तैस्तैरेव प्रविश्यैवन्दोषान्कुवन्ति विंशतिम् ॥ १,१५८.
From the sides, fine streams constantly fill it; entering through these, they produce twenty kinds of disorders.
मूत्राघातः प्रमेहश्च कृच्छ्रान्मर्म समाश्रयेत् । बस्तिवङ्क्षणमेढ्रार्तियुक्तोल्पाल्पं मुहुर्मुहुः ॥ १,१५८.
Urinary retention and diabetes, both severe, affect the vital spots, causing pain in the bladder, groin, and penis, which is mild but frequent.
मूत्राण्यावातजे कृच्छ्रपीत्ते पीतं सदाहरुक् । रक्तं वा कफजो बस्तिमेढ्रगौरवशोथवान् ॥ १,१५८.
In the wind type, urine is scanty; in the bile type, it is yellow and always burning; in the phlegm type, it is bloody, with heaviness and swelling of the bladder and penis.
सपिच्छं सनिरुद्धं च सर्वैः सर्वात्मकं मलैः । यदा वायुर्मुखं बस्तेर्व्यावर्त्य पारिशोषयन् ॥ १,१५८.
The urine is slimy, obstructed, and affected by all impurities; when wind blocks the opening of the bladder and dries it out—
मूत्रं सपित्तं सकफं सशुक्रं वा तदा क्रमात् । संजायतेऽश्मरी घोरा पित्तं गोरिव रोचना ॥ १,१५८.
Then the urine, mixed with bile, phlegm, or semen, gradually forms a dreadful stone, yellow like cow's bile.
श्लेष्माश्रया च सर्वा स्यादथास्याः पूर्वलक्षणम् । बस्त्याध्मानं तदासन्नदेशोहि परितोऽतिरुक् ॥ १,१५८.
All these are based in phlegm; the early sign of this is swelling of the bladder and intense pain around the affected area.
बस्तौ च मूत्रसङ्गित्वं मूत्रकृच्छ्रं ज्वरोऽरुचिः । सामान्यलिङ्गं रुङ्नाभिसीवनीबस्तिमूर्धसु ॥ १,१५८.
There is retention of urine in the bladder, painful urination, fever, and loss of appetite; the common symptoms are pain in the navel, perineum, bladder, and head.
