श्लेष्मोल्बणा महामूला घना मन्दरुजः सिताः । उत्सन्नोपचितस्निग्धस्तब्धवृत्तगुरुस्थिराः ॥ १,१५६.
When phlegm predominates, the masses are large, dense, slightly painful, white, elevated, swollen, oily, stiff, round, heavy, and firm.
पिच्छिलाः स्तिमिताः श्लक्ष्णाः कण्ड्वाढ्याः स्पर्शनप्रियाः । करीरपनसास्थ्याभास्तथा गोस्तनसन्निभाः ॥ १,१५६.
They are slimy, still, smooth, rich in itching, pleasant to the touch, resembling the stem of the karira or jackfruit, and like the udder of a cow.
वङ्क्षणानाहिनः पुयुबस्तिनाभिविकर्तनाः । सकाशश्वासहृल्लासप्रसेकारुचिपीनसाः ॥ १,१५६.
Located in the groin, they are snake-like, with pus, causing pain in the bladder and navel; they are accompanied by shortness of breath, palpitations, excessive saliva, loss of appetite, and nasal congestion.
महकृच्छ्रशिरोजाड्यशिशिरक्षारकारिणः । क्लैब्याग्निमार्दवच्छर्द्यतीसारादिविकारदाः ॥ १,१५६.
They cause severe difficulty, heaviness of the head, coldness, and astringency; they bring about impotence, weak digestion, softness, vomiting, diarrhea, and other disorders.
वसाभसकफप्राज्यपुरीषासृक्प्रवाहिकाः । न स्त्रवन्ति न भिद्यन्ते पाण्डुस्निग्धत्वगादयः ॥ १,१५६.
The stools are rich in fat, mucus, and phlegm, and there is a flow of blood; they neither flow freely nor break apart, and the skin and other parts are pale and oily.
संसृष्टलिङ्गत्संसर्गनिचयात्सर्वलक्षणाः । रक्तोल्बणा गुदे कीलाः पीताकृतिसमन्विताः ॥ १,१५६.
When all symptoms are mixed together, all features appear; when blood predominates, the masses in the anus are yellowish in appearance.
वटप्रसेहसदृशाः गुञ्जाविद्रुमसन्निभाः । तेऽत्यर्थं दुष्टमुष्णं च गाढविष्टंभपीडिताः ॥ १,१५६.
They resemble the fruit of the banyan tree, or are like gunja or coral; they are extremely foul, hot, and severely obstructed and painful.
स्त्रवन्ति सहसा रक्तं तस्य चातिप्रवृत्तितः । केकाभः पीड्यते दुः खैः शोणितक्षयसम्भवैः ॥ १,१५६.
They suddenly discharge blood, and due to excessive flow, the person suffers with a cry like a peacock, afflicted by the consequences of blood loss.
हीनवर्णबलोत्साहो हतौजाः कलुषेन्द्रियः । मुद्गकोद्रवजंबीरकरीरचणकादिभिः ॥ १,१५६.
He becomes deficient in color, strength, enthusiasm, and vitality, with impaired senses, especially after consuming mudga, kodrava, jambira, karira, chanaka, and similar foods.
रूक्षैः संग्राहिभिर्वायुर्विट्स्थाने कुपितो बली । अधोवहानि स्रोतांसि संरुध्याधः प्रशोषयन् ॥ १,१५६.
When wind is aggravated by dry, binding foods, it becomes strong in the rectum, obstructs the downward channels, and dries out the lower parts.
पुरीषं वातविष्णूत्रसंगं कुर्वीत दारुणम्? । तेन तीव्रा रुजा कोष्ठपृष्ठहृत्पार्श्वगा भवेत् ॥ १,१५६.
Because of this, the stool becomes hard, dry, and mixed with wind, causing severe pain in the abdomen, back, heart, and sides.
आध्मानमुदरे विष्ठा हृल्लासपरिकर्तने । बस्तौ च सुतरां शूलो गण्डश्वयथुसंभवः ॥ १,१५६.
There is bloating in the abdomen, hard stool, nausea, cutting pain, and especially severe pain in the bladder, along with swelling of the cheeks.
पवनस्योर्ध्वगामित्वात्ततश्छर्द्यरुचिज्वराः । हृद्रोगग्रहणीदोषमूत्रसंगप्रवाहिकाः ॥ १,१५६.
Because of the upward movement of wind, there arise vomiting, loss of appetite, fever, heart disease, disorders of digestion, retention of urine, and diarrhea.
बाधिर्यातिशिरः श्वासशिरोरुक्काशपीनसाः? । मनोविकारस्तृट्श्वासपित्तगुल्मोदरादयः ॥ १,१५६.
Deafness, severe headache, breathlessness, head pain, cough, nasal congestion, mental disturbances, thirst, difficulty breathing, disorders of bile, abdominal tumors, and similar conditions also occur.
एते च वातजा रोगा जायन्ते भृशदारुणाः । दुर्नामामृत्यूदावर्तपरमोऽयमुपद्रवः ॥ १,१५६.
These are the diseases caused by wind, arising intensely and severely; among them, the most dangerous are those with terrible names, leading even to death and severe complications.
वाताभिभूतकोष्ठानां तैर्विनापि विजायते । सहजानि तु दोषाणि यानि चाभ्यन्तरे वलौ ॥ १,१५६.
Even without these, those whose bowels are afflicted by wind develop inherent disorders, as well as those that are internal and associated with the channels.
स्थितानि तान्यसाध्यानि याप्यन्तेऽग्निबलादिभिः । द्वन्द्वजानि द्वितीयायां वला यान्याश्रितानि च ॥ १,१५६.
Those which are established are incurable, but may be managed by the strength of digestive fire and other means; those arising from the combination of two humors, and those dependent on the second channel, are also described.
कृच्छ्रसाध्यानि तान्याहुः परिसंवत्सराणि च । बाह्यायां तु वलौ जातान्येकदोषोल्बणानि च ॥ १,१५६.
These are said to be difficult to cure, taking years to resolve; those arising in the external channel and dominated by a single humor are also described.
अर्शांसि सुखसाध्यानि न चिरोत्पत्तिकानि च । मेढ्रादिष्वपि वक्ष्यन्ते यथास्वं नाभिजानि तु ॥ १,१५६.
Hemorrhoids are easily curable and do not take long to develop; those that arise in the genitals and similar areas will be described according to their type, but not those that are congenital.
गण्डूपदस्य रूपाणि पिच्छिलानि मृदूनि च । व्यानो गृहीत्वा श्लेष्माणं करोत्यर्शस्त्वचो बहिः ॥ १,१५६.
The forms of worm infestation are slimy and soft; when the circulating wind takes up phlegm, it produces external hemorrhoids on the skin.
कीलोपमं स्थिरखरं चर्मकीलं च तद्विदुः । वातेन तोदः पारुष्यं पित्तादसितवक्त्रता ॥ १,१५६.
They know the hard, immovable, wart-like skin growths; pain and roughness are caused by wind, blackening of the mouth by bile.
श्लेष्मणः स्निग्धता तस्य ग्रथितत्वं सवर्णता । अर्शसां प्रशमे यत्नमाशु कुर्वीत बुद्धिमान् । तान्याशु हि गदन्धा (कार्) य्य कुर्युर्बद्धगुदोदरम् ॥ १,१५६.
Oily texture, knotting, and normal color are due to phlegm; a wise person should quickly strive for the relief of hemorrhoids, for these diseases can soon cause obstruction of the anus and abdomen.
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १५७ धन्वन्तरिरुवाच । अतीसारग्रहण्योश्च निदानं वच्मि सुश्रुत । दोषैर्व्यस्तैः समस्तैश्च भयाच्छोकाच्च षड्विधः ॥ १,१५७.
Dhanvantari said: I will now explain to you, O Suśruta, the causes of diarrhea and digestive disorders, which are of six kinds, arising from the disturbance of the humors, either singly or together, and from fear and grief.
अतीसारः स सुतरां जायतेऽत्यम्बुपानतः । विशुष्कान्नवसास्नेहतिलपिष्टविरूढकैः ॥ १,१५७.
Diarrhea especially arises from excessive drinking of water, as well as from eating dry food, raw meat, unctuous substances, sesame flour, and improperly cooked grains.
मद्यरूक्षातिमात्रादिरसातिस्नेहविभ्रमात् । कृमिघोषविरोधाच्च तद्विधेः कुपितानिलः ॥ १,१५७.
It also arises from excessive consumption of alcohol, dry and excessive foods, confusion of tastes and unctuousness, and from the opposition of worms and improper combinations, which provoke wind.
विस्त्रंसयत्यधोवातं हत्वा तेनैव चानलम् । व्यापार्यान्नशकृत्कोष्ठपुरीषद्रवतादयः ॥ १,१५७.
The disturbed wind disperses downward, destroying the digestive fire; thus, the food, feces, and bowels are affected, resulting in looseness of stool and other symptoms.
प्रकल्पतेऽतीसारस्य लक्षणं तस्य भाविनः । भेदो हृद्गुदकोष्ठेषु गात्रस्वेदो मलग्रहः ॥ १,१५७.
These are considered the signs of impending diarrhea: disturbance in the heart, anus, and bowels, sweating of the limbs, and retention of impurities.
आध्मानमविपाकश्च तत्र वातेन विज्वरम् । अल्पाल्पं शब्दशून्याढ्यं विरु (ब)द्धमुपवेश्यते ॥ १,१५७.
In this condition, there is bloating and indigestion without fever, the stool is scanty, silent, and difficult to pass.
रूक्षं सफेनमच्छं च गृहीतं व मुहुर्मुहुः । तथादग्धगदाभासं पिच्छिलं परिकर्तयन् ॥ १,१५७.
The stool is dry, frothy, and clear, passed repeatedly or at intervals; it may appear burnt or poisoned, slimy, and cause cutting pain.
सशुष्कभ्रष्टपायुश्च हृष्टरोमा विनिश्वसन् । पित्तेन पीतमशितं हारिद्रं शाद्वलप्रभम् ॥ १,१५७.
With a dried and contracted anus, hair standing on end, and sighing, when bile is involved, the stool is yellow, resembling turmeric or green grass.
